Abstract:The order of impulse is introduced. If there exists an unobservable impulsive solution to the descriptor linear system. then there exists an unobservable impulsive solution of order zero. This result is exactly what is needed to interpret the relation between two existing concepts, observability at infinity and impulse observability. Also, a clearer definition to the impulse observability is given.

Abstract:It is seen from Sect. 3.4 that the response of a descriptor linear system may contain impulse terms. These terms may cause saturation of control and may even destroy the system, and hence are not expected to exist. In this chapter, we study the problem of eliminating the impulsive behavior of a descriptor linear system via certain feedback control. As we will soon find out, the problem is closely related with normalization of descriptor linear systems.

Abstract:The problem of stabilization for wireless networked control system (NCS) with packet dropout and time delay is studied in this article. The impulsive control law for the NCS is defined with time delay and impulse. Using a switching model, the network-induced imperfections can be treated as three switching subsystems. Therein, in the case of packet dropout, the control law use the previous state via the first-order hold. The impulsive control law is designed using the switched system approach and the average dwell time method. The obtained sufficient conditions which can guarantee the exponential stability of switched system are in the form of linear matrix inequalities. Finally, a numerical example is used to demonstrate the merits and applicabilities of the proposed method. (C) 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

The whole approach does not involve inverses of matrices and applies mainly singular value decompositions, and is thus numerically very reliable. A numerical example is given to illustrate the design of such state feedback controllers.

Abstract:New criteria for impulsive‐mode controllablizability of descriptor linear systems are proposed by adopting the null space approach. The range of the possible dynamical orders of the closed‐loop system with impulsive‐mode controllability is characterized in terms of the original system matrices. Moreover, the parametric expressions of the impulsive‐mode controllablizing controllers are also established. Abstract:The concept of impulsive-mode controllablisability has been proposed. The criteria of impulsive-mode controllablisability are established in terms of the original system matrices. It is pointed out that the impulsive-mode controllablisability is the necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of impulsive-mode eliminating proportional-derivative (PD) state feedback control. Therefore the conditions for impulsive-mode elimination via PD state feedback are really given.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the controllability of a kind of nonlinear stochastic impulsive system with infinite delay in abstract space. Sufficient conditions for the controllability are obtained via the generalization of the contraction mapping principle and with none of the compactness condition restriction on the evolution family of operators for the system. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of our results.

Abstract:Many practical systems in physics, biology, engineering, and information science exhibit impulsive dynamical behaviors due to abrupt changes at certain instants during the dynamical processes. This note first introduces the impulsive behavior into switched linear systems and studies the controllability and observability of such systems. Necessary and sufficient criteria for reachability and controllability are established. It is proved that reachability is equivalent to controllability for such systems. Then, necessary and sufficient criteria for observability and determinability of such systems are established by duality. It is also proved that observability is equivalent to determinability. Our criteria are of geometric type, they can be transformed into algebraic form conveniently. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the utility of our criteria.

Abstract:Real systems are often subject to both noise perturbations and impulsive effects. In this paper, we study the stability and stabilization of systems with both noise perturbations and impulsive effects. In other words, we generalize the impulsive control theory from the deterministic case to the stochastic case. The method is based on extending the comparison method to the stochastic case. The method presented in this paper is general and easy to apply. Theoretical results on both stability in the pth mean and stability with disturbance attenuation are derived. To show the effectiveness of the basic theory, we apply it to the impulsive control and synchronization of chaotic systems with noise perturbations, and to the stability of impulsive stochastic neural networks. Several numerical examples are also presented to verify the theoretical results.

Abstract:For a parameter-unknown linear discrete-time descriptor system, three implementable experiments are devised and corresponding data are collected in this paper. Then data-based conditions are given to identify the system's type and controllability. Since many data-driven control methods assume that the investigated system is a controllable normal system, this work will verify the assumption and guarantee that those methods will not be misused. Furthermore, if it is a descriptor system, inspired by the equivalent stabilizability between a nominal descriptor system and its slow subsystem, a data-based decomposing method is proposed to transfer the nominal system into its slow-fast subsystems' form. Then a state feedback controller for the slow subsystem is presented based on persistently exciting input and state sequences. In this way, the stability of the nominal descriptor system is also guaranteed. Compared with other related research, we do not require any conservative assumptions or prior knowledge about the system.

Abstract:Impulsive differential systems are an important class of mathematical models for many practical systems in physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, and information science that exhibit impulsive dynamical behaviors due to abrupt changes at certain instants during the dynamical processes. This paper studies the controllability and observability of linear piecewise constant impulsive systems. Necessary and sufficient criteria for reachability and controllability are established, respectively. It is proved that the reachability is equivalent to the controllability under some mild conditions. Then, necessary and sufficient criteria for observability and determinability of such systems are established, respectively. It is also proved that the observability is equivalent to the determinability under some mild conditions. Our criteria are of the geometric type, and they can be transformed into algebraic type conveniently. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the utility of our criteria.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to investigating two structural properties for a class of fractional-order switched and impulsive systems. The structural properties, i.e., observability and controllability, are explored mainly based on an algebraic approach. More specifically, firstly, according to the Laplace transform and mathematical induction, the general solution of such hybrid fractional-order systems is obtained over every impulsive interval. Next, applying the solution derived and relevant matrix theory, several necessary and sufficient controllability and observability criteria that take the form of a row of Gramian matrices are analytically established in terms of a deterministic impulse-switching time sequence. Resorting to the property of matrix Mittag-Leffler function, the developed controllability and observability Gramian criteria are further converted to some easy-test Kalman-type rank conditions. Finally, a numerical example illustrating the theoretical controllability and observability conditions is given.
