Abstract:In this paper, we investigate impulsive Cohen–Grossberg networks with distributed delays. By Lyapunov–Kravsovskii functional and homeomorphism theory, some new sufficient conditions are established for the existence and global exponential stability of a unique equilibrium without strict conditions imposed on self-regulation functions. The obtained sufficient conditions are easy to verify, meanwhile we remove the usual assumption that the activation functions are bounded and our results improve the previously known results. It is believed that these results are significant and useful for the design and applications of Cohen–Grossberg networks. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

A novel fixed-time stability lemma and its application in the stability analysis of BAM neural networks

Abstract:In this paper, we put forward an interesting fixed-time (FXT) stability lemma, which is based on a whole new judging condition, and the minimum upper bound for the stability start time is obtained. In the new FXT stability lemma, the mathematical relation between the upper bound of the stability start time and the system parameters is very simple, and the judgment condition only involves two system parameters. To indicate the usability of the new FXT stability lemma, we utilize it to study the FXT stability of a bidirectional associative memory neural network (BAMNN) with bounded perturbations via sliding mode control. To match the developed FXT stability lemma, novel sliding mode state variables and a two-layer sliding mode controller are designed. According to the developed FXT stability lemma, the perturbed BAMNN can achieve FXT stability under the devised sliding mode controller. The upper bound of the stability start time can be calculated easily by virtue of the control parameters, and the sufficient conditions guaranteeing that the perturbed BAMNN can achieve FXT stability have also been derived. Last, we provide some confirmatory simulations.

Abstract:This paper studies global exponential stability (GES) of discrete-time (D-T) BAM neural networks (BAMNNs) affected by impulses and time-varying delays. An impulse-free D-T BAMNN with time-varying delays is first developed via the properties of M-matrices, and then the relation between the solutions of the original and new BAMNNs is established. From which, sufficient conditions for GES of the original BAMNN are derived by investigating GES conditions of the new BAMNN based on the counter-evidence and the nature of the nonsingular M-matrix. The results of illustrative examples show that the obtained GES criteria are effective. By comparing with previous results, this paper has the following three merits: (a) the obtained GES criteria are to check the positivity of eigenvalues of a constant matrix, which is easy to realize; (b) this method can be used for other D-T system models affected by impulses and time-varying delays; and (c) the numerical results show that our method is less conservative than ones in other literatures.

Abstract:By M-matrix theory, inequality techniques, and Lyapunov functional method, certain sufficient conditions are obtained to ensure the existence, uniqueness, and global exponential stability of periodic solution for a new type of high-order BAM neural networks with continuously distributed delays and impulses. These novel conditions extend and improve some previously known results in the literature. Finally, an illustrative example and its numerical simulation are given to show the feasibility and correctness of the derived criteria.

Abstract:The fixed point technique has been employed in the stability analysis of time-delays bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural networks with impulse. By formulating a contraction mapping in a product space, a new LMI-based exponential stability criterion was derived. Lately, fixed point methods have educed various good results inspiring this work, but those criteria cannot be programmed by a computer. In this paper, LMI conditions of the obtained result can be applicable to computer Matlab LMI toolbox which meets the need of the large-scale calculation in real engineering. Moreover, a numerical example and a comparable table are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Abstract:Studies on the stability of the equilibrium points of continuous bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural network have yielded many useful results. A novel neural network model called standard neural network model (SNNM) is advanced. By using state affine transformation, the BAM neural networks were converted to SNNMs. Some sufficient conditions for the global asymptotic stability of continuous BAM neural networks were derived from studies on the SNNMs' stability. These conditions were formulated as easily verifiable linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), whose conservativeness is relatively low. The approach proposed extends the known stability results, and can also be applied to other forms of recurrent neural networks (RNNs).

Abstract:This paper investigates the global exponential stability for a stochastic bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural network with time-varying delays. Based on the principle of graph theory, a new method for pth moment exponential stability is derived by combining some inequalities, Lyapunov method and stochastic analysis. The obtained criteria have close relations to the topology property of the BAM neural network. Finally, a numerical example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel linear matrix inequality (LMI)-based sufficient condition, which guarantees the existence and global asymptotic stability of a class of generalized bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural networks with reaction-diffusion terms and mixed time delays, is obtained by using inequality technique, degree theory, LMI method and constructing Lyapunov functional. The mixed time delays consist of both the discrete delays and the infinitely distributed delays. The results generalize and improve the earlier publications under the assumption that the activation functions only satisfy general global Lipschitz conditions. Two simple examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical results. These results can be applied to design globally asymptotically stable networks and thus have important significance in both theory and applications.

Abstract:The problem of delay-dependent exponential passivity analysis is investigated for BAM neural networks with time-varying delays. By establishing a suitable augmented Lyapunov-Krasovskii function and a novel sufficient condition is obtained to guarantee the exponential stability of the considered system. The several exponential stability criterion proposed in this paper is simpler and effective. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of our results.

Abstract:This proposal analyzes the problem of asymptotic approach on stability criteria for impulsive discrete-time BAM neural networks with random parameter uncertainties and time-varying leakage delays. Reciprocally convex combination technique is approached in this paper for the reduction of decision variables. This lemma is derived from the derivation of Jensen’s inequality. Here, the uncertainties are considered as a randomly occurring parameter uncertainty and it obey certain mutually uncorrelated Bernoulli-distributed white noise sequences. A priori indicates the occurrence of uncertain parameters in the probability which is the valuable feature. Some novelty sufficient conditions for ensuring the asymptotic stability of the addressed neural networks are attained in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) by the aid of Lyapunov–Krasovskii functionals approach, which can be easily checked by MATLAB LMI Toolbox. Finally, three illustrative examples are accomplished to manifest the effectiveness and fruitfulness of the proposed research work.

Abstract:A delay-differential equation, modeling a bidirectional associative memory (BAM) neural network with five neurons, is considered. Some results of synchronization and bifurcation are exhibited. By Lyapunov functional methods, some sufficient conditions for the absolute synchronization of the system and global attractivity of the trivial solution are established. This synchronization is independent of the size of time delay. Furthermore, delay-induced synchronized periodic solution is given analytically, as well as necessary and sufficient conditions for the synchronized periodic solution by perturbation-incremental scheme (PIS). The main difference in this paper from previous works in the literatures is that delay-induced synchronization is studied quantitatively. Theoretical results are illustrated with numerical simulations.

Abstract:This paper considers exponential stabilization for a class of coupled hybrid stochastic delayed bidirectional associative memory neural networks (HSD-BAM-NN) with reaction-diffusion terms. A periodically intermittent controller is proposed to exponentially stabilize such an unstable HSD-BAM-NN, and sufficient conditions of the closed-loop BAM-NN system with exponential stabilization are derived by using Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method, stochastic analysis techniques, and integral inequality property, which decide the basic parameters of the proposed controller. Furthermore, a framework to establish simulation algorithm with sampled states is presented to implement the stabilization controller. With a HSD-BAM-NN model of power synchronization in a photovoltaic (PV) array field, we illustrate numerical simulation results to verify the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed controller.
