Abstract:In this paper, a new blind equalization algorithm, DDLMS-CMA algorithm, is proposed for M-PAM and M-QAM communication systems. This new algorithm overcomes the shortcoming of large residual error in Sato or Godard algorithm, and preserves the fast convergence performance. Its convergence speed is even faster than BG algorithm, As a stable blind equalization algorithm, it is useful in practice.

Abstract:The constant modulus algorithm (CMA) has been widely used in the blind equalization of quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals, but it has slow convergence rate and large steady state mean square error and the phase blind nature. In this paper, a modified constant modulus algorithm which incorporates a stop and go technique is proposed. The proposed algorithm can speed up convergence rate and decrease steady state mean square error and correct phase error and frequency offset simultaneously. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in improving convergence behavior and bit error rate (BER) performance.

Abstract:The concurrent constant modulus algorithm (CMA) and soft decision-directed (SDD) scheme (CCMA + SDD) blind equalisation achieves a considerable improvement in equalisation performance over the CMA for high-order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) channels. Because of its concurrent adaptive filter structure and the complexity in analysing the estimation error signal, the actual steady-state performance has largely been left uninvestigated. By introducing an equivalent blind equalisation algorithm, the steady-state excess mean square error (EMSE) of the CCMA + SDD algorithm in a noise-free environment is studied. Based on the energy preservation approach, two first-order approximation closed-form solutions for the EMSE are derived for real-valued and complex-valued cases, respectively. The experimental simulation results for 16- and 64-QAMs show that the proposed steady-state theoretical EMSE results are reasonably accurate.

Abstract:A quadrature sub-branch hybrid selection/maximal-ratio combining (QBHS/MRC) scheme for one-dimensional modulations in Rayleigh fading is proposed. At the receiver, N diversity branches are split into 2N in-phase and quadrature sub-branches. Traditional hybrid selection/maximal-ratio combining (H-S/MRC) is then applied over the 2N sub-branches. The symbol error rate (SER) of M-ary pulse amplitude modulation (PAM), including coherent binary phase shift keying (BPSK), with QBHS/MRC is derived. The mean output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of a QBHS/MRC combiner is given. The performances of QBHS/MRC and H-S/MRC are compared. Results show that QBHS/MRC systems outperform traditional H-S/MRC systems.

In this paper, a variable step size modified constant modulus algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm can achieve fast convergence rate and decrease steady state mean square error and correct phase shift and carrier frequency offset at the same time. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in improving convergence behavior and bit error rate performance.

Abstract:The constant modulus algorithm(CMA) is a widely used algorithm for blind equalization of QAM signals,but it exhibits slow convergence rate,large steady state mean square error and phase-blind nature.To overcome the defaults of CMA,a new dual mode blind equalization algorithm is proposed based on the modified constant modulus algorithm(MCMA) according to the study on the property of QAM signals,the algorithm switches between modified constant modulus algorithm(MCMA) and decision directed(DD) algorithm according the regions where the signal lies in the constellation plane and utilizes the merits of MCMA and DD algorithm.The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can achieve the phase recovery effectively and speed up the convergence rate and decrease the steady state MSE greatly and is suitable for QAM signals.

Abstract:A novel digital signal processing (DSP) scheme for special-shaped circular (7,1) modulated signals based on quasi blind carrier phase estimation (QBCPE) is proposed. Abstract:It is well known that the constant modulus algorithm (CMA) presents a large steady-state mean-square error (MSE) for high-order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals. In this paper, we propose a low-complexity hybrid adaptive blind equalization algorithm, which augments the CMA error function with a novel constellation matched error (CME) term. The most attractive advantage of the proposed algorithm is that it is computationally simpler than concurrent CMA and soft decision-directed (SDD) scheme (CMA+SDD), and modified CMA (MCMA), while the approximation of steady-state MSE of the proposed algorithm is same with CMA+SDD, and lower than MCMA. Extensive simulations demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:A simplified scheme for the blind phase search (BPS) algorithm is proposed. By comparing the loss function with a threshold value, the number of test phases is reduced. Simulation and experimental results show that compared with the traditional BPS algorithm, this algorithm only needs half of the test phases under the same performance.

Abstract:This paper proposed a hierarchical blind phase search algorithm to perform the carrier phase recovery for the 16-QAM signals, which are generated by superposing two lower-order QPSK signals in optical domain for relaxing the DAC requirements. Experimental results show that this algorithm could effectively correct the phase noise of an irregular QAM signal.

Abstract:An improved algorithm in which the error function was switched between decision directed mode and weighted multimodulus mode was proposed based on the weighted multimodulus blind equalization algorithm.The proposed algorithm switches between decision directed mode and fixed weighted multimodulus mode according to the comparison of the signs of error functions,which can utilize the benefits of the two modes to achieve better constellation-matching performance and avoid the weight adjustment in dynamic weighted multimodulus algorithm.The simulation results demonstrate that compared with dynamic weighted multimodulus algorithm,the proposed algorithm can achieve faster convergence rate and lower steady state mean square error(MSE) with little addition in computation and is suitable for QAM signals.

Abstract:A novel digital signal processing (DSP) scheme for quadrature duobinary (QDB) spectrum shaped polarization multiplexed quadrature phase shift keying (PM-QPSK) based on multi-modulus blind equalizations (MMBE) is proposed and demonstrated with both simulation and experimental results. The key algorithms for this novel digital signal processing scheme include the cascaded multi-modulus algorithm (CMMA) for blind polarization de-multiplexing, multi-modulus QPSK partitioning frequency offset estimation (FOE) and two stage carrier phase recovery (CPR) with maximum likelihood phase estimation. The final signal is detected by maximum-likelihood sequence detection (MLSD) for data BER measurement. It shows that CMMA have better frequency response performance compared with CMA for noise compression. The performances of FOE and CPR are also investigated with different spectrum shaping bandwidth, group size and laser linewidth. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed digital signal processing scheme is demonstrated by the experiment of 112 Gb/s QDB spectrum shaped PM-QPSK signal with a 25 GHz bandwidth waveshaper for Nyquist WDM channels.

Abstract:A new blind channel estimator for multi-carrier PSK transmission is developed. By exploiting the structure of PSK signals, the proposed channel estimator can identify non-minumum phase channel using only the power spectrum of received signals. Unlike existing subspace-based channel estimators, our scheme is based on symbol-block-by-symbol-block approach, and, thus, the channel tracking ability is improved. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed blind receiver exhibits satisfactory performance.

Abstract:A new complex exponential function is defined to map the real and imaginary parts of a classic 1 6-QAM nonconstant modulus signal to the unit circle,respectively.With the relationship between the real and imaginary parts of the new constellation after mapping,a new cost function is built and then a new blind equalization algorithm is proposed.The proposed algorithm can converge the steady-state mean square error (MSE)to zero under a noiseless environment,which is different from the famous constant modulus algorithm (CMA)and some CMA-based improved algorithms.In addition,we provide the theoretical analysis of the proposed algorithm.Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has the lower steady-state MSE than CMA and some CMA-based improved algorithms.
