Abstract:Pulse vaccination is an effective strategy to restrain the spread of infectious diseases. This paper proposes a network-based SIR epidemic model incorporating a saturated force of infection and vertical transmission along with pulse vaccination strategy and continuous treatment plan. Dynamical behaviors of the model are analyzed in virtue of the theory for impulsive differential equations. We give the boundedness of solutions and derive the expression of basic reproduction number R0 . By the Floquet theorem and comparison principle, we show that the disease-free periodic solution is globally asymptotically stable when R0<1 . Moreover, a sufficient condition for the uniform permanence of the system is also obtained. Finally, numerical analyses are given to substantiate the theoretical results and a case for Rubella is studied.

Abstract:In this paper, an SIR epidemic model for the spread of an infectious disease transmitted by direct contact among humans and vectors (mosquitoes ) which have an incubation time to become infectious is formulated. It is shown that a disease-free equilibrium point is globally stable if no endemic equilibrium point exists. Further, the endemic equilibrium point (if it exists) is globally stable with respect to a "weak delay". Some known results are generalized.

Abstract:This paper studies the dynamical behaviors of a diffusion epidemic SIRI system with distinct dispersal rates. The overall solution of the system is derived by using L-p theory and the Young's inequality. The uniformly boundedness of the solution is obtained for the system. The asymptotic smoothness of the semi-flow and the existence of the global attractor are discussed. Moreover, the basic reproduction number is defined in a spatially uniform environment and the threshold dynamical behaviors are obtained for extinction or continuous persistence of disease. When the spread rate of the susceptible individuals or the infected individuals is close to zero, the asymptotic profiles of the system are studied. This can help us to better understand the dynamic characteristics of the model in a bounded space domain with zero flux boundary conditions.

Abstract:We introduce novel epidemic models with single and two strains described by systems of delay differential equations with a periodic time-dependent disease transmission rate, and based on the number of newly infected individuals. Transitions between infected, recovered, and returning to susceptible compartments due to waning immunity are determined by the accompanying time delays. Positiveness, existence and uniqueness of solutions are demonstrated with the help of fixed point theory. Reducing delay differential equations to integral equations facilitates determining the analytical estimation of the equilibrium solutions. When there are two strains, they compete together, and the strain with a larger basic reproduction number dominates in the population. However, both strains coexist, and the magnitudes of epidemic outbreaks are governed by the basic reproduction numbers. The outlines of this work are verified through comparison with seasonal influenza data.

Abstract:We analyze a periodically-forced dynamical system inspired by the SIR model with impulsive vaccination. We fully characterize its dynamics according to the proportion p of vaccinated individuals and the time T between doses. If the basic reproduction number is less than 1 ( i.e Rp<1 ), then we obtain precise conditions for the existence and global stability of a disease-free T -periodic solution. Otherwise, if Rp>1 , then a globally stable T -periodic solution emerges with positive coordinates. We draw a bifurcation diagram (T,p) and we describe the associated bifurcations. We also find analytically and numerically chaotic dynamics by adding seasonality to the disease transmission rate. In a realistic context, low vaccination coverage and intense seasonality may result in unpredictable dynamics. Previous experiments have suggested chaos in periodically-forced biological impulsive models, but no analytic proof has been given.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the qualitative analysis of a diffusion SIR epidemic model with networked delay and nonlinear incidence rate. First, we prove the existence and uniqueness of the model by using the method of upper and lower solutions. Then, we prove that the trivial equilibrium (0, 0) is unstable; the disease‐free equilibrium (N, 0) is locally asymptotically stable if the reproduction number and unstable if ; the endemic equilibrium (S ∗ , I ∗ ) is locally asymptotically stable if or if and ; and (S ∗ , I ∗ ) is unstable if and . Abstract:An SEI autonomous model with logistic growth rate and its corresponding nonautonomous model are investigated. For the autonomous case, we give the attractive regions of equilibria and perform some numerical simulations. Basic demographic reproduction numberRdis obtained. Moreover, only the basic reproduction numberR0cannot ensure the existence of the positive equilibrium, which needs additional conditionRd>R1. For the nonautonomous case, by introducing the basic reproduction number defined by the spectral radius, we study the uniform persistence and extinction of the disease. The results show that for the periodic system the basic reproduction number is more accurate than the average reproduction number.

Abstract:In this paper, a deterministic model for transmission of an epidemic has been proposed by dividing the total population into three subclasses, namely susceptible, infectious and recovered. The incidence rate of infection is taken as a nonlinear functional along with time delay, and treatment rate of infected is considered as Holling type III functional. We have structured a deterministic transmission model of the epidemic taking into account the factors that affect the epidemic transmission such as social and natural factors, inhibitory effects and numerous control measures. The delayed model has been analyzed mathematically for two equilibria, namely disease-free equilibrium (DFE) and endemic equilibrium. It is found that DFE is locally and globally asymptotically stable when the basic reproduction number \( (R_{0} ) \) is less than unity. It has also been shown that the delayed system for DFE at \( R_{0} = 1 \) is linearly neutrally stable. The existence of an endemic equilibrium has been shown and found that under some conditions, endemic equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable, and is globally asymptotically stable when \( R_{0} > 1 \). Further, the endemic equilibrium exhibits Hopf bifurcation under some conditions. Finally, an undelayed system has been analyzed, and it is shown that at \( R_{0} = 1 \), DFE exhibits a forward bifurcation.

Abstract:An SIS epidemic model in an m -patch environment with pulse vaccination and quarantine at two different fixed moments is formulated by impulsive differential equations in this paper. The sufficient conditions for the extinction and persistence of the disease are derived and the threshold value R0 is obtained by using the persistence theory of impulsive systems, the impulsive-type Floquet theory and the perturbation techniques. That is, the infection-free periodic solution is globally asymptotically stable if R01 . When m=2 , two special cases are considered to illustrate joint impact of the pulse vaccination and quarantine and population mobility on the disease dynamics. Numerical simulations are given to show the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This article proposes a stochastic SIR model with general nonlinear incidence and Lévy jumps, which is used to describe diseases spreading in human populations. The model takes into account the randomness and sublinearity of diseases and can more accurately describe the disease transmission process. Firstly, we prove that this stochastic SIR model has a unique global positive solution. Then, sufficient conditions for the extinction of the disease are given. We also discuss the case that the disease persists in the model. In addition, we study the asymptotic behavior of the solution of the stochastic SIR model relative to the equilibrium points of the deterministic SIR model. These results allow us to understand the trends and dynamic changes of diseases in human populations, providing theoretical support for developing more scientific and effective disease control strategies and prevention measures. Finally, we give some examples and numerical simulations to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This article proposes a stochastic delayed SIRS epidemic model with nonlinear incidence to describe disease transmission in a stochastic environment. First, it proves that the model has a unique global positive solution and derives sufficient conditions for the extinction and persistence of the epidemic in the population under appropriate conditions. Then, by constructing suitable Lyapunov functions, the asymptotic behavior of the model around the disease-free equilibrium and endemic equilibrium points of the deterministic model is analyzed, and it is concluded that under certain conditions, the solution of the stochastic system randomly oscillates around these two equilibrium points. Finally, several numerical examples are provided to validate the theoretical results, illustrating the significant impact of stochastic perturbations and time delays on disease control.

Abstract:The mathematical modeling of infectious diseases plays a vital role in understanding and predicting disease transmission, as underscored by recent global outbreaks; to delve deep into the dynamic of infectious disease considering latent period presciently is inevitable as it bridges the gap between realistic nature and mathematical modeling. This study extended the classical Susceptible–Infected–Recovered (SIR) model by incorporating vaccination strategies during incubation. We introduced multiple time delays to an account incubation period to capture realistic disease dynamics better. The model is formulated as a system of delay differential equations that describe the transmission dynamics of diseases such as polio or COVID-19, or diseases for which vaccination exists. Critical aspects of the study include proving the positivity of the model's solutions, calculating the basic reproduction number (R0) using next-generation matrix theory, and identifying disease-free and endemic equilibrium points. The local stability of these equilibria is then analyzed using the Routh–Hurwitz criterion. Due to the complexity introduced by the delay components, we examine the stability by studying the roots of a fourth-degree exponential polynomial. The effects of educational campaigns and vaccination efficacy are also investigated as control measures. Furthermore, an optimization problem is formulated, based on Pontryagin's maximum principle, to minimize the number of infections and associated intervention costs. Numerical simulations of the delay differential equations are conducted, and a modified Runge–Kutta method with delays is used to solve the optimal control problem. Finally, we present a few simulation results to illustrate the analytical findings.

Abstract:In order to provide valuable information for the timely design and determination of public health measures during epidemic outbreaks, a deterministic SAIR model with vaccination programs and saturated treatment is established in this paper, as they have been demonstrated to be effective ways to change the evolution and prevent the spread of infectious diseases. The dynamical behaviors of the proposed model is analyzed theoretically and numerically. It is found that multiple endemic equilibria occur under certain conditions, suggesting that decreasing the basic reproduction number is insufficient for disease eradication and improving the efficiency of vaccination and treatment can have a significant impact on disease progression. Furthermore, sensitivity analysis is conducted to quantify how changes in concerned parameters impact , and the proposed model is applied to the pandemic wave of COVID-19. Finally, optimal control problem with time-varying vaccination and treatment is studied and cost-effectiveness analysis is examined under different scenarios.

Abstract:This current work studies a new mathematical model for SARS-CoV-2. We show how immigration, protection, death rate, exposure, cure rate and interaction of infected people with healthy people affect the population. Our model is SIR model, which has three classes including susceptible, infected and recovered respectively. Here, we find the basic reproduction number and local stability through jacobean matrix. Lyapunvo function theory is used to calculate the global stability for the problem under investigation. Also a nonstandard finite difference sachem (NSFDS) is used to simulate the results.

Abstract:It is well known that many natural phenomena and human activities do exhibit impulsive effects in the fields of epidemiology. At the same time, compared with a single control strategy, it is obvious that the multiple control strategies are more beneficial to restrain the spread of infectious diseases. In this paper, we consider pulse vaccination and pulse elimination strategies at the same time and establish an SIRS epidemic model with standard incidence. Firstly, according to the stroboscopic mapping method of the discrete dynamical system, the disease-free T periodic solution of the model under the condition of pulse vaccination and pulse elimination is obtained. Secondly, the basic reproductive number R 0 is defined, and the local asymptotic stability of the disease-free T periodic solution is proved by Floquet theory for R 0 < 1 . Finally, based on the impulsive differential inequality theory, the global asymptotic stability of the disease-free T periodic solution is given for R 0 < 1 , and the disease dies out eventually. The results show that in order to stop the disease epidemic, it is necessary to choose the appropriate vaccination rate and elimination rate and the appropriate impulsive period.

The results show that the method is effective and has potential applicable value.

Abstract:This work explores the dynamics of an epidemic considering an SIVIS (susceptible-infected-vaccinated-infected-susceptible) epidemiological model, accounting for heterogeneous susceptibility, governmental interventions, social behavioral dynamics and public reactions in both of autonomous and nonautonomous aspects. The study frames the system as an optimal control problem, considering time-dependent control strategies for strength of social behavior of public and pharmaceutical treatments. The emergence of a coexistence steady state is analyzed based on the basic reproduction number. The impact of model parameters on disease propagation is assessed through sensitivity analysis. Transcritical bifurcation-induced stability alteration is explored, and numerical simulations illustrate theoretical findings. The proposed system investigates the dynamical behavior in case of periodic transmission rate. It vividly highlights the profound impact of factors such as vaccination rates, frequency and amplitude of transmission on the enduring and evolving dynamic patterns exhibited by the disease.

Abstract:An SEIR epidemic model incorporating both environmental and genetic factors is developed to investigate the impact of Markovian switching on the transmission dynamics of infectious diseases. Probabilistically, we show first that the basic reproduction number R0 is a sharp threshold for the disease transmission: when R01 , the disease is persistent. We then obtain that the Markov process derived from the model is positive Harris recurrence if R0>1 , followed by the global attractivity of the Ω -limit set and the ergodicity of the Markov process. The theoretical results are applied to study the dynamics of rubella in China. This work has significantly simplified the analysis process in the existing literature. This research concludes that multiple waves of infections may be driven by the randomly environmental switching.
