Abstract:Martin-Hou was expanded as the equation of state for the polar fluid, water. The constants of the equation of state were fitted to experimental P-V-T data at single and vapor liquid co-existing phase, and their effectiveness was checked by the statistical method. Satisfactory results were obtained for the gaseous as well as the liquid region. The deviations of vapor pressure and saturated molar volumes are typically less than 0.6%, and the calculated volume and pressure in single phase deviate from those of literature by about 0.3% and 2.5% respectively.Compared with the Bender′s equation of state, the presented one gives better results in describing the properties of water.

Abstract:The equation of state, self-diffusion, and viscosity coefficients of helium have been investigated by quantum molecular dynamics (QMD) simulations in the warm dense matter regime. Our simulations are validated through the comparison with the reliable experimental data. The calculated principal and reshock Hugoniots of liquid helium are in good agreement with the gas-gun data. On this basis, we revisit the issue for helium, i.e., the possibility of the instabilities predicted by chemical models at around 2000 GPa and 10 g/cm(3) along the pressure isotherms of 6309, 15 849, and 31 623 K. Our calculations show no indications of instability in this pressure-temperature region, which reconfirm the predictions of previous QMD simulations. The self-diffusion and viscosity coefficients of warm dense helium have been systematically investigated by the QMD simulations. We carefully test the finite-size effects and convergences of statistics, and obtain numerically converged self-diffusion and viscosity coefficients by using the Kubo-Green formulas. The present results have been used to evaluate the existing one component plasma models. Finally, the validation of the Stokes-Einstein relationship for helium in the warm dense regime is discussed. Abstract:Nonsegmented equations for melting pressure and density at temperatures from $0.001\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\text{to}\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}30\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$ have been developed to fit the reference data. The maximum and average deviations between the melting pressure equation and the totaling 298 reference data are 2.17% and 0.218%, respectively. For the density equations, the average deviations are 0.236% for the liquid side and 0.218% for the solid side. Both the melting pressure curve and melting density curves predicted by the submitted equations approach their minimums at about $0.315\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$.

The upper limit of 60 K is approximately the upper limit of available 3He property measurements. The new state equation form is based on Debye function which goes smoothly to zero in the limit of zero temperature and reduces to the ideal gas in the limit of zero density and/or very high temperature. The equation combines (a) necessary temperature-independent compressibility terms at the lowest temperatures, (b) terms describing the linear specific heat of a Fermi fluid below 1 K, (c) terms describing the phonon excitations which begin above about 1 K, and (d) terms which attempt to fit the conventional critical point thermodynamics at 3.3157 K and 114 604 Pa. Study of Equation of State of the Dense Fluid He+H_2 Mixtures

Abstract:The mixing rule and the variational perturbation theory together with van der Waals one- fluid model have been used to study the equation of state of the dense fluid He+H 2 mixtures with different H 2∶He compositions in this work.The first-order quantum correction is included.To test the model and computational code,the isotherm of the fluid He+H 2 mixtures at 300 K is calculated by using the existing α-exp-6 optimization potential parameters.The calculated isotherm for the fluid He+H 2 mixtures is in agreement with the experimental data and molecular dynamics simulations.Then the equation of state of the fluid He+H 2 mixtures with different He∶H 2 (He∶H 2=1∶1,1∶3,3∶1) compositions have been further investigated in the pressure range 0～60 GPa and temperature in the range 50～7000 K.Comparisons of the present results with Monte-Carlo simulations indicate that the quantum corrections for the calculation of the thermodynamic properties become significant at lower temperatures.

Abstract:An equation of state for normal liquid 3He has been constructed in the form of Helmholtz free energy as a function of independent parameters—temperature, and density. The equation was fitted simultaneously to the collected experimental p-ρ-T, specific heat, sound velocity, isobaric expansion coefficient and isothermal compressibility coefficient from the world’s literature to accuracies comparable with reasonable experimental errors in the measured quantities. Extensive comparisons between the equation of state and experimental data have been made by a set of deviation plots. The state equation is valid in the region for temperatures from 0.1 K to T c = 3.3157 K, and for pressures from vapor pressures to melting pressures.

Investigation on Liquid Density Data at the Bubble Point and Equations for the Refrigerant Hfc-404a over A Wide Temperature Range

Abstract:Liquid density data at the bubble point of the refrigerant HFC-404A were measured at temperatures from (227 to 341) K. The experimental method used for this work was the single-cycle method. Liquid density experimental data of HFC-404A were correlated by the VDNS-type and the modified Rackett-type density equations, and the corresponding parameters for the density equations were given. The correlated results show that they agreed well with the experimental data. The absolute values of the average relative deviations of liquid density from the VDNS-type density equation and the modified Rackett-type density equation were 0.10 % and 0.09 %, respectively. Meanwhile, the experimental results were compared with the calculated results from the equation by Lemmon, the results showed that the experimental data agreed well with the calculated results from Lemmon, the absolute value of the average relative density deviations was 0.69 %. In addition, the PengRobinson (PR), Patel-Teja (PT), and Soave-Redlich-Kwong (SRK) equations of state were also used to calculate the liquid density of HFC-404A. The absolute values of the average relative liquid density deviations for PR, PT, and SRK equations were 0.87 %, 3.62 %, 7.92 %, respectively, and the absolute values of the maximum relative deviations for PR, PT, and SRK equations were 4.90 %, 6.79 % and 10.20 %, respectively. In actual applications, VDNS-type and modified Rackett-type density equations can be used to calculate the liquid density for HFC-404A with the given coefficients. Also, the equations for PR and PT can easily be used to calculate the liquid and vapor densities of HFC-404A.

Abstract:A new version of Martin-Hou equation of state with 27 constantsis presented. The constants are checked and selected by the statistical analysis. The values of the constants for methane are evaluated by using the PVT data in the single phase region of 90K ~ 400K at pressures up to 50MPa and vapor liquid equilibrium data in the co-existing liquid and vapor phases. The new equation of state can not only give good results for PVT in single and vapor-liquid equilibrium in the co-existing phases, but also predict enthalpies，entropies and heat capacities very well. So the new equation of states can be used as a satisfactory equation of state for fluid methane. The presented equation of state can give equivalent or even better results than those of Benedict-Webb-Rubin equation of state with 33 constants modified by McCarty.

Abstract:A new form of a fluid state equation, based on a conceptual extrapolation from the Debye equation for the specific heat of solid materials is described. The Debye characteristic temperature, Θ, which is nominally a constant for solids, becomes a function of the fluid density ρ. Further assuming ${\Theta = c_{1}\rho^{2/3}(1 + c_{2} \rho + c_{3} \rho ^{2} + {\cdots})}$ yields the conventional fluid virial equation in the high-T and low-ρ limits for a monatomic fluid. Additional terms must be added to describe (a) the compressibility of the dense subcooled fluid and (b) properties in the near-critical range. Discussion of the Gruneisen parameter and other factors is included. This Debye fluid theory was used as a state equation for 3He, continuous from 0.005 K to above room temperature.

Abstract:A new method was proposed in order to precisely calculate the thermodynamic properties for moist air in wide range of temperature and pressure. The semiempirical model with Virial state equation was used to construct mathematical model of the thermodynamic properties of moist air. Calculation method included newest developments: latest research progress of Virial coefficients; up-to-date formulation of saturation pressure; recent formulation for specific enthalpy, specific entropy and specific volume of steam released by the International association for the properties of water and steam (IAPWS); current values for molar masses and gas constants. A new method was used to calculate the thermodynamic properties of moist air from 173 to 647 K. The results were compared with the data offered by reference [7, 8, 17, 18]. Maximum errors of specific enthalpy, specific entropy and specific volume were 1.10%, 3.5% and 1.89%.

Abstract:Based on the ideal gas state equation and the saturated vapor pressure equation of helium-3, a saturated vapor density equation is proposed, which can be applied for calculating the saturated vapor density of helium-3 from 0.01K to the critical temperature. Above 1.4K, the average deviation between the results by this equation and experimental data is about 0.66% and the maximum is 2%. Below 1.4K, the results of this work show a comfortable agreement with those by virial state equation (the deviations are generally within 0.1%). Based on this new vapor density equation, the compressibility factor of saturated vapor is determined and the vaporization heat is calculated.

Abstract:A coupled set of new He-3 vapor pressure equations have been developed in the range from 2.6 mK to the critical temperature, which has greatly extended the lower limit of the ITS-90 temperature scale. In the overlapped interval from 0.65 K to 3.2 K, the new equation smoothly joins with the ITS-90 He-3 equation to within +/-50 mu K for a given pressure.

Abstract:A direct boundary element method (BEM) has been studied in the paper based on a set of sufficient and necessary boundary integral equations (BIE) for the plane harmonic functions. The new sufficient and necessary BEM leads to accurate results while the conventional insufficient BEM will lead to inaccurate results when the conventional BIE has multiple solutions. Theoretical and numerical analyses show that it is beneficial to use the sufficient and necessary BEM, to avoid hidden dangers due to non-unique solution of the conventional BIE.

Abstract:At low temperatures the properties of the isotope He-3 differ considerably from those of He-4 because of quantum effects. Based on the work of Gibbons, the thermodynamic properties can be calculated with a modified Strobridge equation between 4K and 20K, while between 20K and 100K a correlation based on the modified quantum version of the principle of corresponding states instead. In this correlation the reduced de Broglie wavelength lambda(*) is introduced as the third parameter besides the reduced temperature and volume. Hereby, a program is built to compute the properties of He-3 between I K and 100K, including the PVT properties, entropy, enthalpy, internal energy, thermal conductivity and viscosity. The results agree with the technical report AFML-TR-67-175 of Air Products and Chemical Inc.

Abstract:The Brillouin scattering spectroscopy studies have been conducted in a diamond anvil cell for a liquid mixtures composed of 95 mol % H(2)O and 5 mol % CO(2) under high temperatures and pressures. The sound velocity, refractive index, density, and adiabatic bulk modulus of the H(2)O+CO(2) mixtures were determined under pressures up to the freezing point at 293, 453, and 575 K. It is found from the experiment that sound velocities of the liquid mixture are substantially lower than those of pure water at 575 K, but not at lower temperatures. We presented an empirical relation of the density in terms of pressure and temperature. Our results show that liquid H(2)O+CO(2) mixtures are more compressible than water obtained from an existing equation of state of at 453 and 575 K.

Abstract:To obtain the equation of state of liquid bismuth and its melting curve, ultrasonic velocity measurements were performed in a multi-anvil apparatus. Using a series of thermodynamic relationships, we extract the volume of liquid bismuth as functions of pressure and temperature up to 973 K and 4.3 GPa. We also introduce a calculation process to build the thermal equations of state of each phase of solid bismuth based on their phase transition boundaries. Combining the thermodynamic parameters of liquid and solid bismuth, we employ the Gibbs equation and the Clausius-Clapeyron equation and finally derive the melting curve up to 8 GPa, which shows excellent consistency with most previous theoretical and experimental results. These results not only demonstrate the accuracy of our experimental and theoretical methods, but also demonstrate the feasibility of the thermodynamic method for obtaining unknown melting curves.

Abstract:Accurate prediction of both volumetric and vapor–liquid phase equilibria of binary CO2–H2O and CH4–H2O mixtures with a single equation of state proves to be difficult. In this study we use an activity–fugacity model to predict the vapor–liquid phase equilibria above 523K and adapt a Helmoholtz model to calculate volumetric properties of these two binary systems. The average deviations of water content in the vapor phase from experimental data are 3.25% and 3.19% for the CO2–H2O and CH4–H2O mixtures, respectively, and the average deviations of gas solubility in liquid phase from experimental data are 4.29% and 3.50%, respectively. The model can find wide applications, and an example is given for the analysis of fluid inclusions in geochemistry.
