Abstract:In this paper, a new method to measure the degree of similarity between generalized fuzzy numbers is presented. Eighteen sets of generalized fuzzy numbers are used to compare the proposed method with the existing similarity measures. The results show that the new similarity measure can overcome the drawbacks of the existing methods. Finally, the proposed similarity measure is applied to pattern recognition.

Abstract:In this paper, we take into account the hesitance degree of hesitant fuzzy sets, introduce the concept of hesitance degree of hesitant fuzzy element which describes the decision maker's hesitance in decision making process, and propose several novel distance and similarity measures between hesitant fuzzy sets. Abstract:In order to avoid error recognition in fuzzy pattern recognition, a new algorithm of closeness degree was proposed to calculate the similarity on a certain characteristic between the typical pattern and the pattern to be recognized, then a function of similarity degree was established. This algorithm featured in combining the membership degree with closeness degree by distributing different weights and ability to process pattern eigenvalue represented by real number or fuzzy set, adaptive adjusting weights to each closeness degree in terms of pattern eigenvalue so as to implement correct pattern recognition. The validity of this algorithm was approved by two examples

Abstract:Fuzzy information measures play an important part in measuring the similarity degree between two pattern vectors in fuzzy circumstance. In this paper, two new fuzzy information measures are set up. Firstly, the classical similarity measures, such as dissimilarity measure (DM) and similarity measure (SM) are studied, an axiom theory about fuzzy entropy is surveyed, and all kinds of definitions of fuzzy entropy are discussed. Secondly, based on the idea of Shannon information entropy, two concepts of fuzzy joint entropy and fuzzy conditional entropy are proposed and the basic properties of them are given and proved. At last, two new measures, fuzzy absolute information measure (FAIM) and fuzzy relative information measure (FRIM), are set up, which can be used to measure the similarity degree between a fuzzy set A and a fuzzy set B. So, It provides a new research approach for studies on pattern similarity measure.

Abstract:Although many measures of similarity between intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS) have been proposed in the literature, some existing similarity measures are not always effective in some cases. A main reason is that existing similarity measures have not or little considered degree of hesitancy in intuitionistic fuzzy set. In this paper, based on this foundation that the degree of hesitancy in intuitionistic fuzzy set and decision maker's attitude to indetermination information are taken into account, a dynamic similarity measure is proposed for measuring the degree of similarity between IFSs. To demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed dynamic similarity measures, the existing similarity measures between IFSs are compared with the dynamic similarity measure between IFSs by numerical examples. It is shown that the proposed similarity measures can deal with counter-intuitive cases more effectively and reasonably than some existing methods. Finally, dynamic similarity measure is applied to pattern recognition.

Abstract:A hybrid variable is a new tool to describe the quantities with fuzziness and randomness. Chance theory is a hybrid of probability theory and credibility theory. The definition of the degree of similarity between hybrid variables is introduced based on chance theory. Several similarity measures between hybrid variables are proposed and corresponding proofs are given. Finally, the similarity measure between actual hybrid variables are computed as examples.

Abstract:Similarity measures are used to measure the similarity degree between fuzzy sets. As an important content in fuzzy mathematics, similarity measure has been used in various fields such as pattern recognitions, multi-criteria fuzzy decision making and medical diagnosis. However, in terms of the existing measure similarity measures, they don’t consider the hesitancy of the fuzzy sets. Accordingly we propose a new similarity measure and prove that it is much more reasonable comparing with the previous similarity measure in the examples. Besides, we also apply it into the commodity recommendation.

Abstract:We propose the cosine similarity measures for intuitionistic fuzzy linguistic sets (IFLSs) and interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy linguistic sets (IVIFLSs), which are expressed by the linguistic scale function based on the cosine function. Then, the weighted cosine similarity measure and the ordered weighted cosine similarity measure for IFLSs and IVIFLSs are introduced by taking into account the importance of each element, and the properties of the cosine similarity measures are also given. The main advantage of the proposed cosine similarity measures is that the decision-makers can flexibly select the linguistic scale function depending on the actual semantic situation. Finally, we present the application of the cosine similarity measures for intuitionistic fuzzy linguistic term sets and interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy linguistic term sets to pattern recognition and medical diagnosis, and the existing cosine similarity measures are compared with the proposed cosine similarity measures by the illustrative example.

Abstract:In this paper, considering the notion of intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS), a new similarity measure and a weighted similarity measure between IFSs are proposed. Then, we prove some properties of the proposed method, we also use several examples to compare the new similarity measure with the existing similarity measures. Numerical results show that our method is much simpler and more efficient than the existing methods. Finally, the new similarity measure is applied to multi-attribute decision-making and pattern recognition.

Abstract:In this study, we first examine entropy and similarity measure of Atanassov’s intuitionistic fuzzy sets, and define a new entropy. Meanwhile, a construction approach to get the similarity measure of Atanassov’s intuitionistic fuzzy sets is introduced, which is based on entropy. Since the independence of elements in a set is usually violated, it is not suitable to aggregate the values for patterns by additive measures. Based on the given entropy and similarity measure, we study their application to Atanassov’s intuitionistic fuzzy pattern recognition problems under fuzzy measures, where the interactions between features are considered. To overall reflect the interactive characteristics between them, we define three Shapley-weighted similarity measures. Furthermore, if the information about the weights of features is incompletely known, models for the optimal fuzzy measure on feature set are established. Moreover, an approach to pattern recognition under Atanassov’s intuitionistic fuzzy environment is developed.

Abstract:As an extension of intuitionistic fuzzy sets, picture fuzzy sets can deal with vague, uncertain, incomplete and inconsistent information. The similarity measure is an important technique to distinguish two objects. In this study, a similarity measure between picture fuzzy sets based on relationship matrix is proposed. The new similarity measure satisfies the axiomatic definition of similarity measure. It can be testified from a numerical experiment that the new similarity measure is more effective. Finally, we apply the proposed similarity measure to multiple-attribute decision making.

Abstract:There are few researches related to similarity measure of the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy set, and these exist-ing methods are inefficient to handle practical problems. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new method in terms of similarity measure of the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy set, involving the degree of membership, the degree of non-membership and the degree of hesitation, as well as the third one’s effect on the anterior both. The developed method expresses the similarity measures of the degree of membership, the degree of non-membership and the degree of hesitation in the form of triple. This paper introduces a new approach of similarity measure handling the triple with the idea of TOPSIS and proves its feasibleness. An illustrative example about pattern recognition is given to verify the efficiency of the developed approach.

Abstract:Type-2 fuzzy set theory is extensively used for decision making, pattern recognition and word computing due to exceptional expression of uncertain information. Similarity measure is one of the core tools for the application of interval and general type-2 fuzzy set. However, there are many similarities exist for interval type-2 fuzzy set, but very few for general type-2 fuzzy set, and the existing similarity measures have some limitations due to their dependence on certain representation, such as one of $$\alpha$$ -plane, zSlices and vertical slice. To solve this problem, in this paper, Dice similarity and Cosine similarity for interval and general type-2 fuzzy set are proposed. The proposed similarity measures for general type-2 fuzzy set are defined on the basis of vector similarity; therefore, they do not depend on certain representation. Furthermore, weighted Dice and Cosine similarity measures are proposed for dealing with special situations in this work. Several properties and a discussion are exposed for proving the presented similarities are indeed similarity measures and can obtain reasonable similarity results. Ultimately, based on presented similarity measures, a multi-criteria decision-making method in the case that criteria weights are completely unknown is proposed. Several examples are employed for illustrating the rationality and superiority of presented similarity measures and MCDM method.

Abstract:Similarity measure is a very important topic in fuzzy set theory. Torra (2010) proposed the notion of hesitant fuzzy set(HFS), which is a generalization of the notion of Zadeh' fuzzy set. In this paper, some new similarity measures for HFSs are developed. Based on the proposed similarity measures, a method of multiple attribute decision making under hesitant fuzzy environment is also introduced. Additionally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the application of the proposed similarity measures of HFSs to decision-making.

Abstract:The inclusion measure, the similarity measure, and the fuzziness of fuzzy sets are three important measures in fuzzy set theory. In this article, we investigate the relations among inclusion measures, similarity measures, and the fuzziness of fuzzy sets, prove eight theorems that inclusion measures, similarity measures, and the fuzziness of fuzzy sets can be transformed by each other based on their axiomatic definitions, and propose some new formulas to calculate inclusion measures, similarity measures, and the fuzziness of fuzzy sets. These results can be applied in many fields, such as pattern recognition, image processing, fuzzy neural networks, fuzzy reasoning, and fuzzy control. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract:In this paper, we present new definitions on distance and similarity measures between intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs) by combining with hesitation degree. First, we discuss the limitations in traditional distance and similarity measures, which are caused by the neglect of hesitation degree's influence. Even though a vector-valued similarity measure was proposed, which has two components indicating similarity and hesitation aspects, it still cannot perform well in practical applications because hesitation works only when the values of similarity measures are equal. In order to overcome the limitations, we propose new definitions on hesitation, distance and similarity measures, and research some theorems which satisfy the requirements of the proposed definitions. Meanwhile, we investigate the relationships among hesitation, distance, similarity and entropy of IFSs to verify the consistency of our work and previous research. Finally, we analyse and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed similarity measure in detail, and then we apply the proposed measures (dH and SH) to deal with pattern recognition problems, and demonstrate that they outperform state-of-the-art distance and similarity measures.

Abstract:By taking hesitation degree of intuitionistic fuzzy sets into consideration, we give a new version of similarity measure for intuitionistic fuzzy sets in this paper, called hesitation degree-based similarity measure. This new similarity measure exhibits many good properties which can be seen from the mathematical investigation as well as the comparison of the new similarity with other existing similarity measures, especially the cosine similarity measure for intuitionistic fuzzy sets proposed by Ye. Also, we make an investigation of the distance measure from the viewpoint of radian, and then propose the weighted hesitation degree-based similarity measure, which can be seen as a generalisation of the hesitation degree-based similarity measure.

By introducing Hausdroff distance in pattern recognition field, each generalized fuzzy number is viewed as an image sample,and then a new formula of similarity measure is constructed. Abstract:The concept of the degree of similarity between interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IVIFSs) is introduced, and some distance measures between IVIFSs are defined based on the Hamming distance, the normalized Hamming distance, the weighted Hamming distance, the Euclidean distance, the normalized Euclidean distance, and the weighted Euclidean distance, etc. Then, by combining the Hausdorff metric with the Hamming distance, the Euclidean distance and their weighted versions, two other similarity measures between IVIFSs, i. e., the weighted Hamming distance based on the Hausdorff metric and the weighted Euclidean distance based on the Hausdorff metric, are defined, and then some of their properties are studied. Finally, based on these distance measures, some similarity measures between IVIESs are defined, and the similarity measures are applied to pattern recognitions with interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy information.
