Abstract:Based on the modem optical imaging theory, this paper describes the imaging process of the optical synthetic aperture-imaging instrument, with emphasis on the characteristics of the spatial frequency. Compared with the single aperture-imaging instrument, the optical synthetic aperture-imaging instrument with the same pupil area as single aperture-imaging instrument has higher cut-off spatial frequency at the cost of the loss of mid-spatial frequency. The diameter of Airy disk of the point Spread Function is smaller, but the sidelobes of PSF are higher. The pupil array maybe is redundant for synthetic aperture-imaging system. When the symmetry of the pupil configurations disappeared, the information transferred by the system are different in all directions. At last a simple laboratory verification experiment was performed in which a rectangle grating and a starburst target were used, the results were in agreement with the anisotropy characteristics of the synthetic imaging instrument. In the experiment the cut-off spatial frequency of imaging system is 160 1p/mm, and the spatial frequency of the gating is 120 1p/mm. Experimental results indicate that the six-aperture imaging system can acquire distinguishable fringes, but single aperture-imaging system can't. The fringes of tangential and sagittal directions are different for the optimal three- and four-aperture imaging system.
