Abstract:The issue of the ratio R=\ensuremath{\Gamma}(\ensuremath{\psi}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\eta}')/\ensuremath{\Gamma}(\ensuremath{\psi}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\eta}) and the \ensuremath{\eta}-\ensuremath{\eta}' mixing angle \ensuremath{\theta} is discussed in an approach on the basis of chiral and large-${N}_{c}$ arguments. Gluonic matrix elements ${\ensuremath{\alpha}}_{s}$〈0\ensuremath{\Vert}GG\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}\ensuremath{\Vert}\ensuremath{\eta}(\ensuremath{\eta}')〉 are estimated. \ensuremath{\theta}\ensuremath{\simeq}-20\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} is found to be strongly favored over \ensuremath{\theta}\ensuremath{\simeq}-10\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}, and is in agreement with the experimental value of R.

Abstract:A formalism based on a chiral quark model (chi QM) approach complemented with a one-gluon-exchange model, to take into account the breakdown of the SU(6)circle times O(3) symmetry, is presented. The configuration mixing of wave functions for nucleon and resonances are derived. With few adjustable parameters, differential cross-section and polarized-beam asymmetry for the gamma p -> eta p process are calculated and successfully compared with the data in the center-of-mass energy range from threshold to 2 GeV. The known resonances S-11(1535), S-11(1650), P-13(1720), D-13(1520), and F-15(1680), as well as two new S-11 and D-15 resonances, are found to be dominant in the reaction mechanism. Moreover, connections among the scattering amplitudes of the chi QM approach and the helicity amplitudes, as well as decay widths of resonances, are established. Possible contributions from the so-called missing resonances are investigated and found to be negligible.

Abstract:A recently developed quark model approach to pseudoscalar meson photoproduction is extended to the electroproduction process for the eta meson in the kinematics of momentum transfer Q(2) less than or equal to 4 (GeV/c)(2) and total centre of mass energy W less than or equal to 1.6 GeV. Existing data are well reproduced and the roles of the S-11 (1535) and D-13 (1520) resonances are closely investigated. In the study of the longitudinal excitation of the S-11 (1535) resonance, a reliable constraint on the S-11(1535) properties is obtained by cleanly removing the electromagnetic transition from the gamma((v))p --> S-11 (1535) --> etap amplitude. Thus, the fitted quantities can be determined with an uncertainty of about 15%. This could be the first direct constraint on the S-11 (1535) properties in theory.

Abstract:Within a quark model the process γp → ηp, for Eγlab < 1.2 GeV, is investigated. We find that the recent data from GRAAL on the polarized beam asymmetry require significant contributions from the resonances D13(1520), F15(1680), and to a lesser extent from P13(1720) in addition to those from the dominant S11(1535) resonance, implied by the Mainz differential cross-section data. The contributions from the resonances S11(1650), D13(1700) and D15(1675) are found consistently small but sensitive to the polarized target asymmetry measured recently at ELSA. These results are shown to be consistent with the quark model predictions.

Abstract:A constituent quark model is developed for the reaction gamma p -> eta p , allowing us to investigate all available data for differential cross-sections as well as single polarization asymmetries (beam and target) by including all of the PDG, one to four star, nucleon resonances (S-11, P-11, P-13, D-13, D-15, F-15, F-17, G(17), G(19), H-19, I-1,I-11, and K-1,K-13). Issues related to the missing resonances are also briefly discussed by examining possible contributions from several new resonances (S-11, P-11, P-13, D-13, D-15, and H-1,H-11).

Abstract:Various $E1$ transition rates for $\ensuremath{\psi}(3770)$ and other $c\overline{c}$ states are calculated in a QCD-motivated potential model. Relativistic corrections are found to be substantial. While a good agreement between theory and experiment is achieved for the rates of $\ensuremath{\psi}(2S)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}{\ensuremath{\chi}}_{\mathrm{cJ}}$ and ${\ensuremath{\chi}}_{\mathrm{cJ}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\psi}(1S)$ ($J=0, 1, 2$), the calculated rates for $\ensuremath{\psi}(3770)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}{\ensuremath{\chi}}_{\mathrm{cJ}}$ are smaller by a factor of \ensuremath{\sim}2 than their experimental values obtained by the Mark III Collaboration. The $S\ensuremath{-}D$ mixing effects are further considered and are found to be important. The mixing angle $\ensuremath{\theta}=\ensuremath{-}10\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}$ is favored and $\ensuremath{\theta}=30\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}$ is ruled out. While most observed transition rates may be explained in the theory, the disagreement between theory and the $\ensuremath{\psi}(3770)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}{\ensuremath{\chi}}_{1}$ data still remains to be clarified.

Abstract:The electromagnetic transition form factors of eta and eta' are calculated in light-cone perturbation theory. We show that it is unreliable to determine the eta-eta' mixing angle without any additional normalization conditions other than their decay widths to two photons. The possible intrinsic <c(c)over bar> component in the flavor singlet is investigated. The heavy quark pair has distinct properties from the light ones in electromagnetic transition processes of pseudoscalar mesons. It is possible to explore the size of the <c(c)over bar> component and our numerical results disfavor a large portion of the <c(c)over bar> component. [S0556-2821(98)02321-2].

Abstract:We relate the mixing of η, η′ with cc, bb states to the gluonic matrix elements αs〈0|GG|η(η′)〉 whose expressions are derived on the basis of chiral and large Nc approach. QCD sum rules are used to estimate coupling constants for cc and bb pseudoscalar resonances, which have not yet been observed. The mixing angles are found to be ληηc = −4.6 × 10−3, λη′ηc = −1.2 × 10−2, ληηb = −2.2 × 10−4, λη′ηb = −5.7 × 10−4, etc. Rates of radiative decays into η, η′ for cc, bb states are calculated by using the mixing mechanism and the branching ratios are found to be BR(J/ψ → γη) = 0.061%, BR(J/ψ → γη′) = 0.35%, BR(ϒ → γη) = 1 × 10−5, BR(ϒ → γη′) = 6 × 10−5, BR(ϒ′ → γη) = 5 × 10−6, BR(ϒ′ → γη′) = 3 × 10−5, etc.

Abstract:Precision measurements of the semileptonic decays $D_s^+ \to \eta e^+ \nu_e$ and $D_s^+ \to \eta^\prime e^+ \nu_e$ are performed with 7.33\,fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector. The branching fractions obtained are $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to \eta e^{+} \nu_e)$ = $(2.255\pm0.039_{\rm stat}\pm 0.051_{\rm syst})\%$ and $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to \eta^{\prime} e^{+} \nu_e)$ = $(0.810\pm0.038_{\rm stat}\pm 0.024_{\rm syst})\%$. Combining these results with the $\mathcal{B}(D^+\to\eta e^+ \nu_e)$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^+\to\eta^\prime e^+ \nu_e)$ obtained from previous BESIII measurements, the $\eta-\eta^\prime$ mixing angle in the quark flavor basis is determined to be $\phi_{\rm P} = (40.0\pm2.0_{\rm stat}\pm0.6_{\rm syst})^\circ$. Moreover, from the fits to the partial decay rates of $D_s^+ \to \eta e^+ \nu_e$ and $D_s^+ \to \eta^\prime e^+ \nu_e$, the products of the hadronic transition form factors $f_+^{\eta^{(\prime)}}(0)$ and the modulus of the $c\to s$ Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cs}|$ are determined by using different hadronic transition form factor parametrizations. Based on the two-parameter series expansion, the products $f^\eta_+(0)|V_{cs}| = 0.4519\pm0.0071_{\rm stat}\pm0.0065_{\rm syst}$ and $f^{\eta^\prime}_+(0)|V_{cs}| = 0.525\pm0.024_{\rm stat}\pm0.009_{\rm syst}$ are extracted. All results determined in this work supersede those measured in the previous BESIII analyses based on the 3.19 fb$^{-1}$ subsample of data at 4.178 GeV.

Abstract:Starting with the QCD axial anomaly we discuss systematically the mixing of light-light and light-heavy pseudoscalar mesons. The π0−η and π0−η′ mixing angles are found to be λπη⋍0.016 and λπη′⋍0.004, which are derived without invoking the diagonalization of the mass matrix. For heavy pseudoscalars we assume that the matrix elements of the quark (e.g. the charm quark) operator cγ5c are saturated by the ηc meson and a series of its radial excitations. The π0−ηc and η−ηc mixing angles are then found to be λπηc⋍−1×10−4 and ληηc⋍−5×10−3. By use of the mixing of η with cc states the calculated rate for ψ→γη is in agreement with experimental data and the branching ratio for ψ′→γη is predicted to be ∼6×10−5. In addition, the η−η′ mixing is also discussed.
A ug 2 00 4 SD mixing and ψ ( 3770 ) production in e + e − annihilation and B decay and its radiative transitions

Abstract:The large decay rate observed by Belle for B + → ψ(3770)K + , which is comparable to B + → ψ(3686)K + , might indicate either an unexpectedly large S-D mixing angle |θ| ≈ 40 o or the leading role of the color-octet mechanism in D-wave charmonium production in B decay. By calculating the production rate of ψ(3770) in the continuum e + e − annihilation at √ s = 10.6 GeV with these two possible approaches (i.e. the large S-D mixing and the color-octet mechanism), we show that the measurement for this process at Belle and BaBar may provide a clear cut clarification for the two approaches. In addition, the radiative E1 transition ratio Γ(ψ(3770) → γχ c2)/Γ(ψ(3770) → γχ c1) may dramatically change from ∼ 0.04 (for θ ≈ 0 o) to ∼ 200 (for θ ≈ −40 o) due to the large S-D interference effect, thus the E1 transition measurement of ψ(3770) at BES and CLEO-c will also be very useful in clarifying this issue.
Correlating Lepton Mixing Angles and Mixing Maxtrix with Wolfenstein Parameters

Abstract:Inspired by a new relation theta(PMNS)(13) = theta(C)/root 2 observed from the relatively large theta(PMNS)(13), we find that the combination of this relation with the quark-lepton complementarity and the self-complementarity results in correlations of the lepton mixing angles with the quark mixing angles. We find that the three mixing angles in the Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) matrix are all related to the Wolfenstein parameter lambda in the quark mixing, so they are also correlated. Consequently, the PMNS matrix can be parameterized by lambda, A, and a Dirac CP-violating phase delta. Such parametrizations for the PMNS matrix have the same explicitly hierarchical structure as the Wolfenstein parametrization for the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix in the quark mixing, and the bimaximal mixing pattern is deduced at the leading order. We also discuss implications of these phenomenological relations in parametrizations.

Abstract:The electroweak mixing angle is determined with high precision from measurements of the mean difference between forward and backward hemisphere charges in hadronic decays of the Z. A data sample of 2.5 million hadronic Z decays recorded over the period 1990 to 1994 in the ALEPH detector at LEP is used. The mean charge separation between event hemispheres containing the original quark and antiquark is measured for $b\bar{b}$ and $c\bar{c}$ events in subsamples selected by their long lifetimes or using fast $D^*$'s. The corresponding average charge separation for light quarks is measured in an inclusive sample from the anticorrelation between charges of opposite hemispheres and agrees with predictions of hadronisation models with a precision of 2%. It is shown that differences between light quark charge separations and the measured average can be determined using hadronisation models, with systematic uncertainties constrained by measurements of inclusive production of kaons, protons and $\Lambda$'s. The separations are used to measure the electroweak mixing angle precisely as \begin{equation*} \sin^2\theta^{\rm eff}_{\rm w} &=& 0.2322 \pm 0.0008 {\mathrm{(exp.\: stat.)}} \\ && \pm 0.0007 {\mathrm{(exp.\: syst.)}} \pm 0.0008 {\mathrm{(sep.)}}. \end{equation*} The first two errors are due to purely experimental sources whereas the third stems from uncertainties in the quark charge separations.

Abstract:We measure the mass of the eta(') meson using psi(2S)->pi(+)pi(-)J/psi, J/psi ->gamma eta(') events acquired with the CLEO-c detector operating at the CESR e(+)e(-) collider. Using three decay modes, eta(')->rho(0)gamma, eta(')->pi(+)pi(-)eta with eta ->gamma gamma, and eta(')->pi(+)pi(-)eta with eta ->pi(+)pi(-)pi(0), we find M-eta(')=957.793 +/- 0.054 +/- 0.036 MeV, in which the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. This result is consistent with but substantially more precise than the current world average.

Abstract:In present work we study the production of ground and excited charmonium states in $e^- e^+ \rightarrow \gamma\chi_{cJ}(nP)(J=0,1)$, and $e^- e^+ \rightarrow \gamma \eta_c(nS)$, through leading order (LO) diagrams, which proceed through exchange of a virtual photon that couples to $\gamma$ and $\eta_c/\chi_{cJ}$ through the triangular quark loop diagram, in the framework of $4\times 4$ Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE), at center of mass energies $\sqrt{s}=10.6$ GeV(Belle energy), and 4.6 GeV (BESIII energy). The amplitude simplifies to a general form required by Lorentz-covariance, in terms of its form factors. The cross sections for these processes with leading order (tree level) diagrams alone at $\sqrt{s}$=10.6 GeV provide a sizable contribution, which might be mainly due to the BSE being a fully relativistic approach that incorporates the relativistic effect of quark spins and can also describe internal motion of constituent quarks within the hadron in a relativistically covariant manner. Our results are compared with recent Belle data at 10.6 GeV, and BESIII data at 4.6 GeV, as well as other models. Plots of cross sections versus the center-of mass energy, $\sqrt{s}$ reveal mild fluctuations in their behaviour for all the three processes in the low energy ($\sqrt{s}$ = 4 - 6 GeV) region, and are analyzed in terms of the form factors.

By calculating the production rate of psi(3770) in the continuum e(+)e(-) annihilation at roots=10.6 GeV with these two possible approaches (i.e., the large S-D mixing and the color-octet mechanism), we show that the measurement for this process at Belle and BABAR may provide a clear cut clarification for the two approaches. In addition, the radiative E1 transition ratio Gamma[psi(3770)-->gammachi(c2)]/Gamma[psi(3770)-->gammachi(c1)] may dramatically change from similar to 0.04 (for thetaapproximate to0(degrees)) to similar to200 (for thetaapproximate to-40(degrees)) due to the large S-D interference effect, thus the E1 transition measurement of psi(3770) at Beijing Spectrometer and CLEO-c will also be very useful in clarifying this issue.

Abstract:Using a continuum approach to the hadron bound-state problem, we calculate gamma*gamma -> eta,eta' transition form factors on the entire domain of spacelike momenta, for comparison with existing experiments and in anticipation of new precision data from next-generation e(+)e(-) colliders. One novel feature is a model for the contribution to the Bethe-Salpeter kernel deriving from the non-Abelian anomaly, an element which is crucial for any computation of eta,eta' properties. The study also delivers predictions for the amplitudes that describe the light- and strange-quark distributions within the eta,eta'. Our results compare favorably with available data. Important to this at large Q(2) is a sound understanding of QCD evolution, which has a visible impact on the eta' in particular. Our analysis also provides some insights into the properties of eta,eta' mesons and associated observable manifestations of the non-Abelian anomaly.

Abstract:We show that $D\rightarrow P\eta'$ decay amplitudes, where $P=K,\pi,\eta$, cannot be simply related to their $D\rightarrow P\eta$ counterparts with a single $\eta_0$--$\eta_8$ mixing angle. Proposing a novel, consistent treatment of $\eta_0$--$\eta_8$ mixing, we perform a global analysis of $D\rightarrow P\eta'$ decays employing SU(3)$_F$ symmetry including linear SU(3)$_F$ breaking. We find that the assumption of 30\% SU(3)$_F$ breaking is in slight tension ($2.5\sigma$) with the data when compared to a fit that allows for 50\% SU(3)$_F$ breaking, the latter giving a perfect description of the data. In order to allow for further scrutinization of SU(3)$_F$-breaking effects in the future, we give branching ratio predictions for all $D\rightarrow P\eta'$ modes. Our predictions deviate from the current data in case of the branching ratios $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\rightarrow K^+\eta')$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^+\rightarrow K^+\eta')$. Future more precise measurements of these channels are therefore highly important in order to clarify the quality of the SU(3)$_F$ expansion in nonleptonic $D\rightarrow P\eta'$ decays.
