Abstract:Remote, distance-independent phase synchronization is a challenging technology for satellite network systems, especially spaceborne bi- and multi-static SAR systems. In this paper, we focus on the theoretical description, performance analysis and experimental verification of a remote phase synchronization system implemented with spatially distributed phase loops. The derivation, simulation and experimental results show that such a system is robust when the relative movement between remote microwave systems has a constant velocity. The proposed approach can also be potentially used in multistatic satellite systems with predictable movements.

Abstract:An optical fiber is a promising approach for data and clock transmission in distributed underwater sonar systems. However, synchronization is a critical challenge in distributed sonar systems, which mandates accurate clock synchronization down to a sub degree. Potential phase misalignment is caused by fiber length variations. In this paper, we propose a fiber-based phase stabilizer method to achieve accurate clock synchronization among sensor nodes. We use fiber-based feedback loop between sensor nodes and central station unit to monitor phase variations. Subsequently, we leverage phase shifters symmetrically arranged on the forward lane and feedback lane to compensate real-time phase variation and maintain high-precision synchronization. Besides, an ambiguity eliminator circuit is designed to remove the clock's cyclic ambiguity. Both analysis and experimental results suggest that the proposed phase stabilizer can achieve 10 MHz reference clock synchronization within 0.4 degree. We also analyze the impact of the reference clock's phase error on the system range detection accuracy, which indicates that the proposed phase stabilizer can greatly improve detection accuracy of sonar systems.

Abstract:A dispersion-free scheme for stable multi-access radio frequency dissemination in a fibre loop link is proposed and demonstrated. The phase jitter and dispersion-induced power fading are suppressed simultaneously by transmitting different single-band signals in opposite propagating directions. Experimentally, a 2.5 GHz radio frequency signal is steadily transmitted to different remote sites, with phase deviations less than 0.6 ps over 15,000 s.

Abstract:Using parallel operation technology based on host-client machines,distributed hardware-in-loop simulation technology in MATLAB was researched.It resolved the difficulties in real-time simulation of complex system because of its heavy calculation and high precision requirement.With the achievement received,a distributed hardware-in-loop simulation flat of electric drive system for armored tracklayer,which consists of control hardware,simulation models and Virtual Reality output was developed.This simulation flat tested its validity and proved that what acquired provided a scientific and effective measure to research hardware-in-loop simulation technology of complex system.

Abstract:Because of the size,weight,energy,transmission bandwidth and harsh conditions such as electromagnetic environment of the missile-borne equipment and the requirement for appropriate instruction with good real-time and strong anti-jamming,low error rate and flexible systems and modes of work,a model based on FPGA-based digital data transmission baseband signal bit synchronization was designed and implemented and a method was given for the solution of the glitches,phase jitter.The results show that the method is useful and it is beneficial to the practical work.

Abstract:Based on geometric theory of nonlinear feedback control, a new method to synchronize chaotic systems was put forward. As prerequisite of an appropriate smooth vector field by virtue of nonlinear differential geometry theory to assure the normalization of the receiver system was completed, and then in terms of differences of outputs and their different orders derivatives of the transmitter and receiver, the synchronization error state equations were constructed. By pole assignment, a nonlinear controller to synchronization output signals of two chaotic systems was also given and extended to the whole or part of the states of the two systems. As a result; numerical simulation to the Chua's circuit and its application in secure communication proves the efficacy of the suggested methods.

Abstract:The structure of digital optical phase-locked loop includes two parts: circuit part and optical part. Since the operating mechanisms of two parts differ greatly, the simulation process is very complex. The signal transmission process of digital optical phase-locked loop is analyzed first. It is found that optical part can be simplified into a periodic dynamic adjustable beat signal model based on the hardware description language, and the problem of optical part modeling is solved. Meanwhile, to emulate the drift phenomenon of wavelength caused by optical devices under real conditions, a dynamic and variable jitter signal model is developed, which can reduce the debugging time. Finally, both the beat signal model and jitter signal model work correctly in digital simulation environment, and the accuracy of the beat signal and the jitter signal can reach fs level.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the study of exponential synchronization problem for second-order nodes in dynamical network with time-varying communication delays and switching communication topologies. Firstly, a decomposition approach is employed to incorporate the nodes' inertial effects into the distributed control design. Secondly, the sufficient conditions are provided to guarantee the exponential synchronization of second-order nodes in the case that the information transmission is delayed and the communication topology is balanced and arbitrarily switched. Finally, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical results, it is applied to the typical second-order nodes in dynamical network, as a case study. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method has a high performance in synchronization of such network.
Dynamic Triggering Mechanisms for Distributed Adaptive Synchronization Control and Its Application to Circuit Systems

Abstract:Nonlinear couplings among units (nodes) are ubiquitous in engineering systems including, e.g., radar and sonar systems, which have been ignored in most works. In this article, the problem of distributed synchronization of nonlinear networked systems with nonlinear couplings is studied. Specifically, two kinds of nodes' communication couplings including nonlinear relative and nonlinear absolute state couplings are considered. To reduce the requirements of control and communication among nodes and avoid any global network information, two edge-based fully adaptive event-triggered control protocols based on nonlinear relative and absolute state couplings are proposed by using the projection operator technique, which is followed by design of corresponding dynamic event-triggered mechanisms. The advantages of our proposed dynamic event-triggered strategies show that it can boil down to existing static ones as special examples, and the minimal inter-execution time of the proposed dynamic triggering laws is larger than that of static ones. Theoretical analysis shows that the proposed algorithm not only guarantees fully adaptive Zeno-free synchronization of networked systems without requiring any global information, but also avoids continuous communications among nodes, and considerably reduce the frequency of controller updates. Finally, the practical merits of the proposed algorithms are corroborated using a Chua's circuit network.

Abstract:In this paper, the analysis model of computer clock is discussed, and the characteristic of the existing synchronization mechanisms is summarized. Subsequently, a unidirectional reference broadcast synchronization mechanism with low power is developed, and this mechanism can achieve simultaneously the offset compensation and drift compensation. Its implementation algorithm is designed based on the principle of traditional phase locked loop (PLL). In order to avoid introducing the extra hardware, a simple digital PLL is constructed. Finally, the validation is done on the Mica2 experimental platform, and the performance is evaluated and compared with the typical algorithms.

Abstract:Distributed transient stability simulation is a new approach for on-line security analysis of large scale power systems.It utilizes the heterogeneous computing resources and overcomes the difficulties in data acquisition, integration and maintenance.In order to prove the feasibility of distributed simulation in large power system on wide-area communication networks,a set of indexes are proposed including accuracy,efficiency,stability,robustness and scalability. A high Derformance distributed simulation platform is presented,which can not only realize a dedicated decomposition and coordination algorithm but also can simulate the real wide area communication network environment with high latency and limited bandwidth.Two large scale interconnected power systems,the state power grid and the Northeast China-North China-Central China power grid,are used to test the proposed indexes.Test results prove the feasibility of the distributed simulations among dispatch centers.

Abstract:In multi-input wireless power transfer (WPT) systems, it is plagued to create a destructive interference between the multiple transmitters to result in a relatively low voltage delivered to the receiving coil and load, due to the phase differences of the received voltages from different transmitters. In this regard, it is essential to synchronize the phases of the received voltages of the receiving coil from different transmitters. However, the existing offline synchronization methodologies rely heavily on an analytical form solution of the received voltage in a receiver. In most engineering application scenarios, such close-form solution is almost impossible. Moreover, the close form solution, even if possible, will vary with the operating conditions and environments. To eliminate these deficiencies of existing synchronization methodologies, an online synchronization methodology is proposed for a multi-input WPT system. In the proposed methodology, the received voltages from different transmitters are determined from a series of online voltage samplings under different offset phases, and a synchronization strategy is then proposed and implemented. A multi-input WPT prototype is developed to test the feasibility of the proposed synchronization methodology. The experimental results have demonstrated that the received voltage is significantly enhanced by applying the proposed online phase synchronization methodology.

Abstract:Synchronous generators connected with diode-bridge rectifier are used to supply dc power in a wide variety of applications. Serious low-frequency current oscillations may occur in a rectifier-loaded synchronous generator with improper parameters. This paper studies the simulation of stability of the 3/12-phase synchronous generator with simultaneous ac and de stator connections using MATLAB. The abc model of synchronous generators is established and is achieved by system function of MATLAB. Real-Time Workshop is used to increase the simulation speed. The simulation results are compared with another verified simulation method.

Abstract:We aim to increase the ability of coupled phase oscillators to maintain synchronization when the system is affected by stochastic disturbances. We model the disturbances by Gaussian noise and use the mean first hitting time when the state hits the boundary of a secure domain, that is a subset of the basin of attraction, to measure synchronization stability. Based on the invariant probability distribution of a system of phase oscillators subject to Gaussian disturbances, we propose an optimization method to increase the mean first hitting time and, thus, increase synchronization stability. In this method, a new metric for synchronization stability is defined as the probability of the state being absent from the secure domain, which reflects the impact of all the system parameters and the strength of disturbances. Furthermore, by this new metric, one may identify those edges that may lead to desynchronization with a high risk. A case study shows that the mean first hitting time is dramatically increased after solving corresponding optimization problems, and vulnerable edges are effectively identified. It is also found that optimizing synchronization by maximizing the order parameter or the phase cohesiveness may dramatically increase the value of the metric and decrease the mean first hitting time, thus decrease synchronization stability.

Abstract:The stability of synchronized states (including equilibrium point, periodic orbit or chaotic attractor) in stochastic coupled dynamical systems (ordinary differential equations) is considered. A general approach is presented, based on the master stability function, Gershgorin disc theory and the extreme value theory in statistics, to yield constraints on the distribution of coupling to ensure the stability of synchronized dynamics. Three types of different behaviour: global-stable, exponential-stable and power-stable, are found, depending on the nature of the distribution of the interactions between units. Systems with specific coupling schemes are used as examples to illustrate our general method.

Abstract:The emergence of full-duplex (FD) communication technology can enable the efficient network localization and synchronization. In this paper, we develop a distributed algorithm for localization and synchronization using FD two-frame transmission. Based on the sparse structure of the wireless channels, arrival times of different signals are estimated by an iteration method. Then, the positions and clock offsets of agents are determined by the weighted least squares and semidefinite programming (SDP) method. Our simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and performance of the distributed algorithm in the network localization and synchronization.

Abstract:Synchrony of neuronal ensembles is believed to facilitate information exchange among cortical regions in the human brain. Recently, it has been observed that distant brain areas which are not directly connected by neural links also experience synchronization. Such synchronization between remote regions is sometimes due to the presence of a mediating region connecting them, e.g., \textit{the thalamus}. The underlying network structure of this phenomenon is star-like and motivates us to study the \textit{remote synchronization} of Kuramoto oscillators, {modeling neural dynamics}, coupled by a directed star network, for which peripheral oscillators get phase synchronized, remaining the accommodating central mediator at a different phase. We show that the symmetry of the coupling strengths of the outgoing links from the central oscillator plays a crucial role in enabling stable remote synchronization. We also consider the case when there is a phase shift in the model which results from synaptic and conduction delays. Sufficient conditions on the coupling strengths are obtained to ensure the stability of remotely synchronized states. To validate our obtained results, numerical simulations are also performed.

Abstract:This paper proposes a scheme of a novel hybrid simulator for transient stability analysis and emergency control of power system based on real-time wide area measurement. The basic design principle, configuration and solutions are also presented. The key technical problems of the simulator such as wide area measurement, real-time communication and emergency control decision-making are discussed at length. The scheme is tested on a small power system. The test results show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:We demonstrate a new ultra-stable frequency dissemination scheme on L band over 100m atmosphere. By compensating phase noise actively and a series of frequency conversions, the phase fluctuation is well compensated. Two links disseminate different frequency signals phase locked to a common reference simultaneously, and recover the disseminated frequency respectively at remote site. The stability of dissemination with phase compensation in free space is 3×10 -13 /s and 4×10 -17 /day. The relationship between dissemination stability and propagating distance is also discussed.
