Abstract:Autism is a brain development disorder whose characteristic signs are impairments in social interaction and communication, as well as restricted and repetitive behavior. Although heritability contributes about 90% of the risk of a child developing autism, the genetics of autism are complex, and typically it is unclear which genes are responsible. The recent work supports the hypothesis that GABA receptor subunit genes are involved in autism, most likely via complex gene-gene interactions. ([3]) In this paper, we genotyped four SNPs, rs1912960, rs2280073, rs17599165, and rs17599416 in the GABRA4 gene using DNA Microarray based dual-color fluorescence hybridization approach. 105 families with an affect offspring were recruited in our study. The entire four polymorphisms had no significant evidence for preferential transmission of an allele by the transmission disequilibrium test (TDT). The result is discordant with the previous studies on Caucasians and African-Americans. Ethnic difference might be an indispensable influence factor of the discordance.
