Abstract:In this paper, we reformulate some constructions of real and complex diagonal lattice space-time codes from number fields which have been given explicitly or implicitly by other researchers. These constructions establish a connection between good diagonal lattice space-time codes and number fields with small absolute values of discriminants. We present two tables for diversity products of some lattice space-time codes from these constructions. The maximal rank of diagonal lattice space-time codes with positive diversity product is determined. We also discuss the asymptotic problem of lattice space-time codes. By using an infinite tower of Hilbert class field and a tamely ramified class field tower, we obtain asymptotically good sequences of lattice space-time codes. Some asymptotic upper bounds are given in the paper as well.

Abstract:In wireless scenarios,an effective protocol to increase the reliability for time-varying channels is the hybrid automatic repeat request(H-ARQ).In order to improve the performance of communication system with H-ARQ,a kind of full diversity low density parity check(LDPC) on H-ARQ channels was proposed.The new proposed LDPC codes connect the initial transmission with the repeated transmissions by root-connection to get extern diversity gain.In addition,the density evolution process was given.Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can not only achieve full diversity,but also get better performance than constructed LDPC codes at present.
Quantum LDPC Codes with Transversal Non-Clifford Gates via Products of Algebraic Codes

Abstract:For every integer $r\geq 2$ and every $\epsilon>0$, we construct an explicit infinite family of quantum LDPC codes supporting a transversal $C^{r-1}Z$ gate with length $N$, dimension $K\geq N^{1-\epsilon}$, distance $D\geq N^{1/r}/\operatorname{poly}(\log N)$, and stabilizer weight $w\leq\operatorname{poly}(\log N)$. The previous state of the art construction (in most parameter regimes) was the $r$-dimensional color code, which has only constant dimension $K=O(1)$, and otherwise has the same parameters up to polylogarithmic factors. Our construction provides the first known codes with low-weight stabilizers that are capable of magic state distillation with arbitrarily small yield parameter $\gamma=\log(N/K)/\log(D)>0$. A classical analogue of transversal $C^{r-1}Z$ gates is given by the multiplication property, which requires component-wise products of classical codewords to belong to another similar code. As a byproduct of our techniques, we also obtain a new construction of classical locally testable codes with such a multiplication property. We construct our codes as products of chain complexes associated to classical LDPC codes, which in turn we obtain by imposing local Reed-Solomon codes on a specific spectral expander that we construct. We prove that our codes support the desired transversal $C^{r-1}Z$ gates by using the multiplication property to combine local circuits based on the topological structure.

Abstract:Recently, Branco da Silva and Silva described an efficient encoding and decoding algorithm for Construction D$^\prime$ lattices. Using their algorithm, we propose a Construction D$^\prime$ lattice based on binary quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC-LPDC) codes and single parity-check product codes. The underlying codes designed by the balanced-distances rule contribute in a balanced manner to the squared minimum distance of the constructed lattice, which results in a high lattice coding gain. The proposed lattice based on IEEE 802.16e QC-LDPC codes is shown to provide competitive error-rate performance on the power-unconstrained additive white Gaussian noise channel.

Non-Coherent Space-Time Code Based on Full Diversity Space-Time Block Coding

Abstract:A non-unitary non-coherent space-time code which is capable of achieving full algebraic diversity is proposed based on full diversity space-time block coding. The error performance is optimized by transforming the non-unitary space-time code into unitary space-time code. By exploiting the desired structure of the proposed code, a grouped generalized likelihood ratio test decoding algorithm is presented to overcome the high complexity of the optimal algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed code possesses high spectrum efficiency in contrast to the unitary space-time code despite slight loss in the SNR, and besides, the proposed grouped decoding algorithm provides good tradeoff between performance and complexity.
Space-Time Constellation-Rotating Codes Maximizing Diversity and Coding Gains

Abstract:We apply algebraic number theoretic tools to designing linear space-time constellation-rotating (ST-CR) block codes. With an arbitrary number of M transmit- and N receive-antennas, our ST-CR designs achieve a rate of 1 symbol/second and enjoy maximum diversity gains MN over quasi-static fading channels. When M is an Euler number, /spl phi/(P) for P/spl ne/0 (mod 4), or, when M=2/sup m/ for some positive integer m, the designed ST-CR precoders also maximize coding gains over QAM constellations. When M takes other integer values, we construct a method to design precoders with large coding gains that can be computed explicitly. Simulations corroborate our theoretical findings.

Abstract:In this paper, a scheme of signal space diversity based on non-binary LDPC codes is presented. Signal space diversity can provide good performance gains over fading channels with multi-dimension rotated constellation. This paper studies the extension of such schemes with a non-binary code. It is shown that non-binary LDPC-coded modulation with signal space diversity over a fading channel may lead to a significant gain over the convolutional code or conventional unrotated constellation.

Abstract:In the decades following Shannon's work, the quest to design codes for the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel led to the development of a rich theory, revealing a number of beautiful connections between information theory and geometry of numbers. One of the most striking examples is the connection between classical lattice sphere packing and the capacity of the AWGN channel. The main result states that any family of lattice codes with linearly growing Hermite invariant achieves a constant gap to capacity. Secrecy Gain of Formally Unimodular Lattices from Codes over the Integers Modulo 4

Abstract:Recently, a design criterion depending on a lattice's volume and theta series, called the secrecy gain, was proposed to quantify the secrecy-goodness of the applied lattice code for the Gaussian wiretap channel. To address the secrecy gain of Construction $\text{A}_4$ lattices from formally self-dual $\mathbb{Z}_4$-linear codes, i.e., codes for which the symmetrized weight enumerator (swe) coincides with the swe of its dual, we present new constructions of $\mathbb{Z}_4$-linear codes which are formally self-dual with respect to the swe. For even lengths, formally self-dual $\mathbb{Z}_4$-linear codes are constructed from nested binary codes and double circulant matrices. For odd lengths, a novel construction called odd extension from double circulant codes is proposed. Moreover, the concepts of Type I/II formally self-dual codes/unimodular lattices are introduced. Next, we derive the theta series of the formally unimodular lattices obtained by Construction $\text{A}_4$ from formally self-dual $\mathbb{Z}_4$-linear codes and describe a universal approach to determine their secrecy gains. The secrecy gain of Construction $\text{A}_4$ formally unimodular lattices obtained from formally self-dual $\mathbb{Z}_4$-linear codes is investigated, both for even and odd dimensions. Numerical evidence shows that for some parameters, Construction $\text{A}_4$ lattices can achieve a higher secrecy gain than the best-known formally unimodular lattices from the literature. Results concerning the flatness factor, another security criterion widely considered in the Gaussian wiretap channel, are also discussed.

Construction D' Lattices for Power-Constrained Communications

Abstract:Designs and methods for nested lattice codes using Construction D' lattices for coding and convolutional code lattices for shaping are described. Two encoding methods and a decoding algorithm for Construction D' coding lattices that can be used with shaping lattices for power-constrained channels are given. We construct nested lattice codes with good coding properties, a high shaping gain, and low-complexity encoding and decoding. Convolutional code generator polynomials for Construction A lattices with the greatest shaping gain are given, as a result of an extensive search. It is shown that rate 1/3 convolutional codes provide a more favorable performance-complexity trade-off than rate 1/2 convolutional codes. Tail-biting convolutional codes have higher shaping gain than that of zero-tailed convolutional codes. A design for quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC-LDPC) codes to form Construction D' lattices which have efficient encoding and indexing is presented. The resulting QC-LDPC Construction D' lattices are evaluated using four shaping lattices: the $E_8$ lattice, the $BW_{16}$ lattice, the Leech lattice and our best-found convolutional code lattice, showing a shaping gain of approximately 0.65 dB, 0.86 dB, 1.03 dB and 1.25 dB at dimension 2304.

Some quaternary additive codes outperform linear counterparts

Abstract:The additive codes may have better parameters than linear codes. However, it is still a challenging problem to efficiently construct additive codes that outperform linear codes, especially those with greater distances than linear codes of the same lengths and dimensions. This paper focuses on constructing additive codes that outperform linear codes based on quasi-cyclic codes and combinatorial methods. Firstly, we propose a lower bound on the symplectic distance of 1-generator quasi-cyclic codes of index even. Secondly, we get many binary quasi-cyclic codes with large symplectic distances utilizing computer-supported combination and search methods, all of which correspond to good quaternary additive codes. Notably, some additive codes have greater distances than best-known quaternary linear codes in Grassl's code table (bounds on the minimum distance of quaternary linear codes <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://www.codetables.de" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>) for the same lengths and dimensions. Moreover, employing a combinatorial approach, we partially determine the parameters of optimal quaternary additive 3.5-dimensional codes with lengths from $28$ to $254$. Finally, as an extension, we also construct some good additive complementary dual codes with larger distances than the best-known quaternary linear complementary dual codes in the literature.

On the Existence of Cyclic Lattice Codes

Abstract:A coding lattice $\Lambda_c$ and a shaping lattice $\Lambda_s$ forms a nested lattice code $\mathcal{C}$ if $\Lambda_s \subseteq \Lambda_c$. Under some conditions, $\mathcal{C}$ is a finite cyclic group formed by rectangular encoding. This paper presents the conditions for the existence of such $\mathcal{C}$ and provides some designs. These designs correspond to solutions to linear Diophantine equations so that a cyclic lattice code $\mathcal C$ of arbitrary codebook size $M$ can possess group isomorphism, which is an essential property for a nested lattice code to be applied in physical layer network relaying techniques such as compute and forward.

Abstract:A new high-rate space-time block code (STBC) with full transmit diversity gain for four transmit antennas based on a generalized Alamouti code structure is proposed. The proposed code has lower Maximum Likelihood (ML) decoding complexity than the Double ABBA scheme does. Constellation rotation is used to maximize the diversity product. With the optimal rotated constellations, the proposed code significantly outperforms some known high-rate STBCs in the literature with similar complexity and the same spectral efficiency.
A Family of Space-Time Block Codes Achieving Full Diversity with Linear Receivers

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a design scheme for a family of space-time block codes (STBCs) that achieve full diversity when linear receivers, such as zero-forcing (ZF) or minimum mean square error (MMSE) receivers, are used. New STBCs obtained based on this design scheme are characterized by their special structure that combines/overlays orthogonal STBCs (OSTBCs) and Toeplitz codes together, which are called Group Orthogonal-Toeplitz Codes (GOTCs). By choosing different parameters, codes with different symbol rates and orthogonality can be obtained. It is indicated that the existing STBCs achieving full diversity with linear receivers, such as the Toeplitz codes and overlapped Alamouti codes (OACs) recently proposed in the literature and the OSTBCs are three members of the GOTCs with different parameters. It is also shown that the time-reversal space-time block codes (TR-STBCs) and delay diversity codes (DDCs) for frequency selective channels are equivalent to OACs and Toeplitz codes, respectively, and thus they both can achieve full space-frequency diversity with only linear receivers. Furthermore, simulations show that with linear receivers, GOTCs outperforming the above mentioned three codes can be obtained from the proposed design scheme.
Short Regular Girth-8 QC-LDPC Codes From Exponent Matrices with Vertical Symmetry

Abstract:To address the challenge of constructing short girth-8 quasi-cyclic (QC) low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, a novel construction framework based on vertical symmetry (VS) is proposed. Basic properties of the VS structure are presented. With the aid of these properties, existing explicit constructions for column weights from three to five which can be transformed into the VS structure are sorted out. Then two novel explicit constructions with the VS structure which guarantee short codes are presented for column weights of three and six. Moreover, an efficient search-based method is also proposed to find short codes with the VS structure. Compared with the state-of-the-art benchmarks, both the explicit constructions and the search-based method presented in this paper can provide shorter codes for most cases. Simulation results show that the new shorter codes can perform almost the same as or better than the longer existing counterparts. Thus, the new shorter codes can fit better with the low-latency requirement for modern communication systems.

Finite Fields and Their Applications

Abstract:It is known from the CSS code construction that an [[m,2k−m,≥d]]q stabilizer code can be obtained from a (Euclidean) dual-containing [m,k,d]q code. In [5], Blackmore and Norton introduced an interesting code called matrix-product code, which is very useful in constructing new quantum codes of large lengths. Recently, Galindo et al. [16] constructed several classes of stabilizer codes from the dual-containing matrix-product codes of (generalized) Reed-Muller, hyperbolic and affine variety ones. In this paper, we first provide a more general approach to construct dual-containing matrix-product codes and then further study it in two cases. The first case generalizes the result by Galindo et al. and constructs dual-containing matrix-product codes more explicitly since the matrices involved are not restricted to be orthogonal. The second case presents a different way to construct dual-containing matrix-product codes in which some of the constituent codes are not required to be dual-containing. Through the construction of dual-containing matrix-product codes of Reed-Muller and affine variety ones, the CSS code construction and Steane's enlargement, we supply several classes of new stabilizer codes over the fields F5, F7 and F9 either having minimum distances larger than the ones achieved from the first case or the technique in [16], or having lengths that are not studied in [16].
A Family of Distributed Space-Time Trellis Codes with Asynchronous Cooperative Diversity

Abstract:In current cooperative communication schemes, to achieve cooperative diversity, synchronization between terminals is usually assumed, which may not be practical since each terminal has its own local oscillator. In this paper, based on the stack construction proposed by Hammons and El Gamal, we first construct a family of space-time trellis codes for BPSK modulation scheme that is characterized to possess the full cooperative diversity order without the synchronization assumption. We then generalize this family of space-time trellis codes from BPSK to higher order QAM and PSK modulation schemes based on the unified construction proposed by Lu and Kumar. And also, simplified decoding methods are discussed. Simulation results are given to illustrate the performance of the newly proposed codes.
Diagonal Block Space-Time Code Design for Diversity and Coding Advantage over Flat Fading Channels

Abstract:The potential promised by multiple transmit antennas has raised considerable interest in space-time coding for wireless communications. In this paper, we propose a systematic approach for designing space-time trellis codes over flat fading channels with full antenna diversity and good coding advantage. It is suitable for an arbitrary number of transmit antennas with arbitrary signal constellations. The key to this approach is to separate the traditional space-time trellis code design into two parts. It first encodes the information symbols using a one-dimensional (M,1) nonbinary block code, with M being the number of transmit antennas, and then transmits the coded symbols diagonally across the space-time grid. We show that regardless of channel time-selectivity, this new class of space-time codes always achieves a transmit diversity of order M with a minimum number of trellis states and a coding advantage equal to the minimum product distance of the employed block code. Traditional delay diversity codes can be viewed as a special case of this coding scheme in which the repetition block code is employed. To maximize the coding advantage, we introduce an optimal construction of the nonbinary block code for a given modulation scheme. In particular, an efficient suboptimal solution for multilevel phase-shift-keying (PSK) modulation is proposed. Some code examples with 2-6 bits/s/Hz and two to six transmit antennas are provided, and they demonstrate excellent performance via computer simulations. Although it is proposed for flat fading channels, this coding scheme can be easily extended to frequency-selective fading channels.
