Abstract:By converting the measurand to the phase information of the propagating light, interferometric fiber-optic sensors (IFOS)obtain extremely high sensitivity and robustness in harsh environment, which make them suitable for oilfield application. In recent years, we have developed different types of IFOS for pressure, seismic, and acoustic detection, completed by Fabry-Perot (FP)senor, in-well 3-axis fiber-optic seismic sensor and heterodyne-demodulation distributed acoustic sensor (HD-DAS). With the temperature calibration by FBG, the accuracy of the developed FP pressure sensor achieves 0.1% full scale (F. S.)in the harsh environment (highest temperature: 300°C, highest pressure: 100MPa). The in-well 3-axis fiber-optic seismic sensor is characterized by a dynamic range larger than 120 dB and a minimum detectable acceleration of 250 ng/√Hz. In field test, it captured nearly one hundred of microseismic events caused by hydraulic fracture and thus depicting the overall dimension of the fault preliminarily. The HD-DAS system demonstrated here is based on dual-pulse heterodyne demodulation technique and the results of the field trials in steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD)well validate the applicability of the system. After finishing these engineering prototypes the next target will focus on the reliability and cost of the above systems.
