Abstract:Summary form only given. In this talk, an equivalent circuit method has been proposed to understanding the physical mechanism of a windmill structure metamaterial (WSM). As we known, studying the physical mechanism mean to need to derived the expressions of permeability and permittivity. Noticed from some literature [1-3], they can't offer the researchers the principles of selecting the structural parameters for the desired properties of metamaterial. As a matter of fact, to understand the relationship between the effective permeability and geometrical parameters is more important for the engineers. Therefore, the understanding of how to choose the geometrical parameters is necessary. Equivalent circuit method is the most popular and widely used method. However, the mutual inductance M caused by the periodic structure cell is not integrated into the equivalent circuit in most literatures. Hence, it is unfeasible to investigate the electromagnetic influences accurately. we utilized an improved equivalent circuit approach with aiming to reveal the influence of structural parameters on the resonance properties for a windmill structure metamaterial (WSM). Inspired by the work of Chen et al. [1], a more complicated equivalent circuit model was proposed. The WSM is a representative example with four loops. By using the method of the equivalent circuit, the analytical expressions were derived, which give a physical insight of the effect of geometrical parameters on the effective permeability. Different from the previous research method, we will use complete circuit theory to better understand the resonance mechanism. In this talk, we further developed the equivalent circuit model. According to this equivalent circuit model, the expression of the proposed WSM resonator was deduced. Compared with most of the traditional equivalent circuit theory, the proposed model takes into account the mutual inductance. By the deduced expression, it has been shown that the permeability is directly determined by the structural parameters. In order to verify the derived expressions of effective permeability, the WSM resonator was number simulated by using Ansoft HFSS. The simulated results show good agreement with theoretical prediction. Similar expressions and processes could be used to describe the strain-dependent electromagnetic behavior of the multiple-loop model.
