Abstract:We demonstrate a coupled optical parametric process that is able to realize in a dual-period domain inverted structure in complex quasi-phase-matched scheme. As an example, we designed and fabricated a dual-periodic domain inverted structure in LiTaO3 for the first time. This structure couples second-harmonic generation and sum-frequency generation through two cascade quasi-phase-matched processes, therefore, a direct third-harmonic generation can be realized. The test verified that ultraviolet was generated in the optical superlattice through frequency tripling a 1.064 mum laser.

Abstract:We propose a dual-periodically domain-inverted structure for realizing an efficient third-harmonic generation at an arbitrary fundamental wavelength. The structure allows to couple two separate optical parametric processes, frequency doubling and frequency adding, through a cascaded quasi-phase-matched interaction, therefore, generate third-harmonic directly from a superlattice sample. As an example, we designed and fabricated such a structure in a LiTaO3 crystal. Using a LD pumped 1.064 mum quasi-cw Nd:YVO4 laser as a fundamental source, considerable ultraviolet at 355 nm was generated from this superlattice by frequency tripling. And green at 532 nm was simultaneously obtained by frequency doubling.

Abstract:Aimed for generating high-average power ultraviolet (UV) lasers via third-harmonic generation (THG) consisting of frequency doubling and tripling stages, we numerically and experimentally demonstrate a novel frequency tripling scheme capable of supporting temperature-insensitive phase-matching (PM). Two cascaded tripling crystals, with opposite signs of the temperature derivation of phase-mismatch, are proposed and theoretically studied for improving the temperature-acceptance of PM. The proof-of-principle tripling experiment using two crystals of LBO and BBO shows that the temperature acceptance can be ~1.5 times larger than that of using a single tripling crystal. In addition, the phase shift caused by air dispersion, along with its influence on the temperature-insensitive PM, are also discussed. To illustrate the potential applications of proposed two-crystal tripling design in the high-average-power regime, full numerical simulations for the tripling process, are implemented based on the realistic crystals. The demonstrated two-crystal tripling scheme may provide a promising route to high-average-power THG in the UV region.

Abstract:We report in this work a continuous wave (CW) narrowband 589 nm light generation for the purpose of laser guide assisted adaptive optics. A 39 mm long 1 mm thick periodically poled near stoichiometric LiTaO 3 crystal with duty cycle near 50% was fabricated using electrical poling at room temperature and pumped by a Raman fiber amplifier. We tested two temperature control ovens, and a maximum conversion efficiency of about 14.3%, corresponding to 4 W of yellow light with 28 W of fundamental power, and bandwidth less than 0.18 GHz was achieved.

Abstract:Frequency doubling in an external cavity is a prevalent method to generate an ultra-violet laser at 397.5 nm.A semi-monolithic resonant frequency doubling cavity based on the PPKTP crystal is built and is used to realize the resonant frequency doubling of the 795 nm single frequency continuous-wave laser amplified via a semiconductor tapered amplifier.Under the condition of 203 mW input power of a 795 nm laser,the 397.5 nm single frequency continuous-wave ultra-violet laser with a power of 60.4 mW is obtained,and the frequency doubling conversion efficiency is 30％;and the maximum doubling efficiency is 34.6％ with a fundamental power of about 87.5 mW.The beam quality factor M2 of the frequency doubling ultra-violet laser is superior to 1.21,indicating the better beam quality.The typical root-mean-square fluctuation of the output power within 30 min is less than 1.9％.This frequency doubler is compact,has good mechanical stability,and can be used to achieve steady output of ultraviolet laser.The ultra-violet laser can be used to generate the squeezed or entangled states of the rubidium transition line,and plays an important role in the quantum optics,precise measurement and other fields.

Abstract:We report on an efficient blue light generation in periodically poled LiTaO3 by the frequency tripling of a quasi-continuous 1342 nm Nd:YVO4 laser. The period of the sample was 14.778 µm. Blue light with an average power of 138 mW was generated from a 18 mm long crystal in a single-pass process under an average fundamental power of 713 mW. The internal conversion efficiency was 19.3%.

Abstract:A high-power single-frequency 1178 nm continuous-wave laser is generated in a two-stage stimulated-Brillouin-scattering-suppressed all-polarization-maintaining Raman fiber amplifier pumped by 1120 nm fiber lasers. A polarization-extinction-ratio of 30 dB is achieved due to the all-polarization-maintaining configuration and the polarization dependence gain of Raman scattering. Single-pass frequency doubling with a homemade periodically poled near-stoichiometric LiT alpha O-3 crystal (PPSLT) produces an up to 7 W narrow-linewidth laser at 589 nm. The thermally induced dephasing effect is found to be the key issue for improving second-harmonic efficiency. (C) 2013 Optical Society of America

Abstract:A dual-color laser of red at 671 nm and ultraviolet (UV) at 411 nm was generated from dual-wavelength fundamental waves at 1342 and 1064 nm with a single periodically poled LiTaO3 (PPLT) optical superlattice. The PPLT sample used consists of two segments in a series: the first segment has a period of 14.55 μm for the second-harmonic generation (SHG) of 1342 nm and the second segment has periods of around 10.3 μm for the generation of UV light by sum-frequency mixing (SFG) of 1064 and 671 nm. An average output power of 3 and 79 mW for UV and red, respectively, has been obtained.

Abstract:Abstract An efficient green generation in a periodically poled LiTaO3 by frequency doubling a diode-pumped, single-mode cw ND:YAG laser is reported. A 44-mw, 532-nm output was obtained by single-pass operation in a 7.8-μm period, 15-mm long sample using a 3.5-W incidence power near room temperature. No obvious photo-refractive damage was observed in the operation temperature and power level.

Abstract:We demonstrate broadband tuning visible light generation based on a multi-channel quasi-periodically poled LiTaO3 crystal, in which a quasi-phase matched optical parametric generation process and a quasi-phase matched sum-frequency mixing process were achieved simultaneously. The conversion characters on spectrum and energy were studied by using a nanosecond pulse laser at 1.064μm as pump light. We could tune the visible light over ~26nm by means of changing the crystal's channel and temperature. The ratio of the output wavelength variation to that of temperature was ~0.07nm/°C. The single-pass slope efficiency was 6.3% with the maximum output energy of 25μJ.

Abstract:Blue lasers are very useful for applications in fundamental sciences and advanced technologies. Although the frequency doubling with a first-order quasi-phase-matched (QPM) crystal is an effective approach to obtain blue and UV lasers, the crystal should be poled with a short period, which is technically difficult to fabricate compared with a long period. Using a third-order QPM can be an alternative way to generate blue light, in which the poling period is 3 times larger than that in first-order QPM. In this work, we report on the generation of a 402.5 nm laser by using cavity-enhanced second-harmonic generation and a periodically poled KTP (PPKTP) crystal with a poling period of 10.02 µm. About 36.49 mW output power and 15.3% conversion efficiency are achieved in our experiment.

Abstract:We demonstrate the efficient generation of red light at 671 nm and blue light at 447nm from a diode-pumped Q-switched 1342nm Nd:YVO4 laser together with a periodically poled LiTaO3 (PPLT) crystal. The sample used in this experiment is a dual-structure PPLT crystal with the period of 14.9 mum for the second harmonic generation and that of 4.9 mum for the third harmonic generation. The red and blue light, with the respective average power of 752 mW and 153 mW were obtained in a single path under an average fundamental power of 1.74 W, corresponding to the conversion efficiencies of 43.2% and 8.8%, respectively. These results indicate that the dual-structure PPLT can be used to construct a compact and efficient all-solid-state red-and-blue dual-wavelength laser.

Abstract:Using a xenon flash lamp as pump source, KTP as intracavity- doubling crystal rind BDN dye film as passive Q-switch, the green laser output at 0.5295 mu m from a new crystal Nd:Sr-5(PO4)(3)F has been demonstrated. The green laser output energy and pulse width were measured under the conditions of different resonator length and small-signal transmission of dye film. Meanwhile, the Q-switched coupling wave rate equations for intracavity frequency doubling were given and the experimental results agreed with the numerial solutions of equations.

Abstract:The continuous-wave and acousto-optical Q-switched pulse laser properties of diode-pumped Nd:YAG crystal operating at 946nm formed with a simple plane–plane cavity have been studied. Extra-cavity single-pass quasi-phase matching (QPM) frequency doubling with periodically poled LiTaO3 (PPLT) as the nonlinear crystal yielded a maximum output power of 66mW at 473nm with an overall optical to optical efficiency of 14.2% from 946 to 473nm. Our result proves that this scheme is of practical value for the construction of a blue all-solid-state laser.

Abstract:A maximum of 310 mW average output power at 355 nm has been obtained by extracavity frequency tripling with a BBO crystal in a Q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser with 11.2 W of laser diode pump power. The single pass frequency conversion efficiency (infrared-to-ultraviolet) is 14.3%. The power stability of the ultraviolet laser is better than 1% in 30 min.

Abstract:Using a uncoated bulk periodically poled LiTaO3 with the period of 7.81 μm to double the frequency of a diode-pump Q-switched Nd∶YVO4 laser is studied. The laser is with a 60 ns pulse duration, 10 kHz repetition rate. Internal conversion efficiency is 13.5% when pump power is 193 mW. The second-harmonic power as the function of crystal temperature is also measured, which is agreement very well with the theory. The phase matching temperature is 36.1℃.

Abstract:We report the 390 and 385 nm violet light generation by frequency doubling of a tunable 90 fs, 82 MHz Ti:sapphire laser in two optical superlattice LiNbO3 samples through third-order quasiphase matching (QPM). With the average incident infrared light power of 770 mW, 9.7 and 2.9 mW output second-harmonic lights were obtained without photorefractive damage. The QPM wavelength acceptance bandwidth measurement indicates that violet light generation with higher efficiency is possible.

Abstract:We report for the first time coherent ultraviolet radiation at 299 nm by intracavity sum-frequency generation of an 899 nm Nd:YAG laser and a 456 nm frequency doubling Nd:GdVO4 laser. The ultraviolet laser is obtained by using doubly resonant, type-I critical phase matching CsLiB6O10 (CLBO) crystal sum-frequency mixing. With a total diode pump power of 35.6 W (17.2 W pump power for the 899 nm Nd:YAG laser and 18.4 W pump power for the 456 nm Nd: GdVO4 frequency doubling laser), a TEM00 mode ultraviolet laser at 299 nm of 331 mW is obtained. The power stability is better than 3.4% and the laser beam quality M-2 factors are 1.22 and 1.17 in the horizontal and vertical dimensions respectively.
