Abstract:A tandem Michael addition-cyclization of nitroalkenes with 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds was developed using phase transfer catalyst (PTC), allowing for the synthesis of polysubstituted-[4,5]-dihydrofuran in high yields. A wide range of substrates were demonstrated by this one-step process. Meanwhile, nitro group was substituted to form corresponding nitrite ion detected in the aqueous phase providing a reasonable pathway for denitrating poisonous and explosive nitro-containing compounds. The proposed mechanism was also supported by our DFT calculations.

Abstract:A Cp*Rh-III-catalyzed annulative carbooxygenation of challenging 1,1-disubstituted alkenes triggered by C-H activation of N-aryloxyacetamides has been established, which affords 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran derivatives with a quaternary carbon center in good to excellent yields under mild redox-neutral conditions. An amide group on the alkenes is essential for the process, and may inhibit the beta-H elimination from C(sp3)-Rh species by saturating the rhodium center through coordination. Furthermore, mechanistic insights obtained from control experiments suggest a mechanism involving a Rh-III-Rh-V-Rh-III catalytic cycle.

Abstract:Herein, metal-free oxidative tandem cross-dehydrogenative coupling of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds with N,N-dimethylanilines is developed. The reaction affords two new C(sp(3))-C(sp(3)) bonds in one pot. A broad range of ss-dicarbonyl compounds and N,N-dimethylanilines were compatible, and the desired products were synthesized in moderate-to-good yields.

Abstract:A novel silver-mediated highly selective oxidative C-H/C-H functionalization of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds with terminal alkynes for the creation of polysubstituted furans and pyrroles in one step has been demonstrated. Promoted by the crucial silver species, perfect selectivity and good to excellent yields could be achieved. This protocol represents an extremely simple and atom-economic way to construct polysubstituted furans and pyrroles from basic starting materials under mild conditions.

Abstract:A novel and efficient tandem SN2' nucleophilic substitution/oxidative radical cyclization reaction of aryl substituted allylic alcohols with 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds has been developed by using Mn(OAc)(3) as an oxidant, which enables the expeditious synthesis of polysubstituted dihydrofuran (DHF) derivatives in moderate to high yields. The use of weakly acidic hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) as the solvent rather than AcOH has successfully improved the yields and expanded the substrate scope of this type of radical cyclization reactions. Mechanistic studies confirmed the cascade reaction process involving a final radical cyclization.

Abstract:A promising and useful method has been accomplished for regio‐ and diastereoselective synthesis of tetrahydro‐benzofuro[3,2‐c]chromenones through ceric(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) mediated oxidative coupling of cyclic/acyclic 1,3‐dicarbonyl compounds to 2‐aryl/heteroarylchromenes followed by a base assisted cyclization. The significant features of the method encircle easy accessibility of the starting materials, high air stability and low toxicity of oxidant CAN, high product yield, operationally simple and eco‐friendly reaction conditions. Trapping of a radical intermediate with radical scavenger TEMPO (detected by LC‐MS) from the reaction mixture proved that the oxidative coupling is a radical mediated process.

Abstract:An efficient method for the enantio‐ and diastereoselective construction of furanochromanones has been developed through Pd‐catalyzed asymmetric allylic cycloaddition of vinylethylene carbonates with 3‐nitrochromone. By using a palladium complex generated in situ from [Pd 2 (dba) 3 ]·CHCl 3 and phosphoramidite L 4 as a catalyst, the transformation allows to rapid access furanochromanones bearing versatile nitro‐group and multi‐stereocenters in high yields with excellent enantioselectivities and moderate diastereoselectivities.

Abstract:An intermolecular 1,2-diacylation of alkenes is disclosed via cooperative N-heterocyclic carbene and photoredox catalysis under the mediation of PPh3 and Cs2CO3. This protocol provides a practical approach for construction of 1,4-dicarbonyl compounds toward novel diketone and pharmaceutical derivatives. Furthermore, the regioselective dicarbonyl compounds can be synthesized by adding acyl azolium salt. Mechanistic investigations suggest that the process was a critical radical/radical cross coupling of ketyl radicals with benzylic C-radicals.

Abstract:Cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN)-mediated oxidation of methylenecyclobutanes was investigated. Compared with the similar reactions of methylenecyclopropanes, the reaction products were quite different. Instead of the desired ring-enlarged product cyclopentanones, a cyclobutyl ring-intact product, spirocyclobutyl-1,2-dioxethane, was obtained. The structures of these spiroheterocycle-containing compounds are interesting, and the reactions are potentially valuable in both organic synthesis and mechanism research.

Abstract:Efficient route: A novel Rh(I)-catalyzed regio- and stereospecific carbonylation reaction of (1-alkynyl)cyclopropyl ketones by selective activation of a carbon-carbon sigma bond of the cyclopropane ring was demonstrated (see scheme). This method provides a general, efficient, stereoselective route to synthesise 1,3,5-trisubstituted and 1,3,5,6-tetrasubstituted 5,6-dihydrocyclopenta[c]furan-4-one with convertible functional groups.

Abstract:: A straightforward and atom-economical approach to the synthesis of dihydrofurans employing electro-oxidative [3+2] annulation of 1,3-dicarbonyl compound and alkenes has been developed. Neither metal catalysts nor chemical oxidants are required to promote the dehydrogenation process. Moreover, the use of base to decrease the oxidative potential and 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol to stabilize the reactive intermediates are key to the success of the cyclization.
