Abstract:APMP spent liquor, which contains many, kinds of degraded compounds from lignin and carbohydrates, is one kind of valuable biomass and promising raw material for converting into fuels and chemicals. Alkali lignin (AL), polysaccharide (PLS) and lignin-carbohydrate complexes (LCC) are three basic organic components of APMP spent liquor. In this paper, AL, PLS and LCC were separated from eucalyptus APMP spent liquor. The pyrolysis characteristics of AL, PLS and LCC were investigated using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and the releasing mechanism of main gas products during pyrolysis were on-line measured by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. TG results showed that the pyrolysis characteristics of AL, PLS and LCC were obviously different. The pyrolysis process of LCC and PLS can be approximately described by three and two weight loss stages, respectively. However, AL pyrolysis could be expressed as only one stage accounting for 49.76% weight loss with a maximum mass loss rate at 374 degrees C. The FTIR results indicated that pyrolysis products of AL, PLS and LCC mainly varied in amounts but not in species. The main volatile products were CO, CO2, CH4, H2O, benzenes, hydrocarbons, alcohols, phenols, aldehydes and ketones. The absorbance intensity of CO2 was obviously stronger than other products. The main volatile products were generated nearly 240 degrees C earlier from LCC pyrolysis than PLS pyrolysis at the second stage. Methane was released concentrate between 180 degrees C and 530 degrees C from AL, PLS and LCC pyrolysis.
