Abstract:The exit cannot quickly be found in large space buildings when disaster and accident occurred due to the high density crowds. Sound plays an important role in the evacuation process and acoustic signals are the signal of danger, especially in a fire situation. There are multiple exits in large public buildings, and acoustic signals may chance the choice of the exits. The aim of this paper is to find out the effect of the number of voice alarms on the exit choice in large indoor spaces. This paper first proposes a method of using evacuation experiments to determine the influence of voice alarm number, the building environment and sound field have been tested. Then evacuation experiments using multiple alarm sources have been undertaken, where the characteristics and changes of each evacuee's behavior under voice warning influence are examined. The experiment results demonstrate that that with the increasing of the number of voice warning alarms, the interaction between each signal is enhanced, most people would choose their previous exit when they heard more than one signal, and the percentage of choosing the same exit evacuees is increased.
