Analysis of the Critical Management Capabilities for the Performance of Information Systems

Abstract:In recent years,enterprises invest much money and op-portunity into ERP. However,the proportion of success is only 10 percent. Many researches had discovered that external factors,such as the technology level of information,ability of service of system provider,policy of government and information condition of in-dustry,affect the performance of information systems. In addition,the interior management of information system plays a significant role in the success of ERP in enterprises. Based on the fundamen-tal administrative function and management process,this paper decomposes the interior management capability,lead capability,plan capability,organizational capability,human capability,and control capability,into 29 observed variables. And it decomposes the performance of information system into 4 observed variables. After factor analysis and coefficient test,we reduce the 29 variables into 25 variables. Then with SEM,this paper measures the influ-ence of lead capability,plan capability,organizational capability,human capability,and control capability on the performance of information system. It proves that plan capability,organizational capability doesn’t work directly. Additionally,it elicits four critical management paths which determine the performance of informa-tion system,namely,lead capability-performance,lead capability-human capability-performance,lead capability-control capability-performance and plan capability-control capability-performance,among which,lead capability affects the performance of informa-tion system most obviously. Furthermore,this paper suggests that the scale of an organization affects the interior management capa-bility and performance of information system. There maybe exit different management capability and different critical management path,which determine the performance of information system in different industry.
