Abstract:In this review, we examine the major empirical findings that studies of post-traumatic stress disorder have produced in China during the last 6 years. A review of a collection of thematic articles published in international journals shows a growing interest in the study of PTSD in China. By evaluating a wide range of estimates of prevalence among different segments of the affected population, the magnitude of the epidemic is revealed. A summary of the risk factors identified in the existing literature provides an up-to-date understanding of PTSD in China. An assessment of the effects of different types of intervention adopted highlights a lack of availability of professional services. A critical examination of the literature also finds the limitations stemming from the following factors: concentrating on a particular event, lack of multidisciplinary perspectives, and lack of longitudinal data for analysis.
