Abstract:An iterative method is given in [2] to search a scaling matrix for diagonal dominance. In this paper, we present an improved version. The new algorithm is proved to be convergent and needs less iteration. Also from the new algorithm, a lower bound of the spectral radius of H-matrix is given.

Based on the traditional pseudodiagonalization,robust pseudodiagonalization is presented;necessary and sufficient condition for achieving robust diagonal dominance is deduced. A new algorithm is proposed which is suited for reducible matrices and numerical evidence for the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is presented. Abstract:The irreducibility of nonnegative matrices is an important condition for the diagonal transformation algorithm to succeed. In this paper, we introduce zero symmetry to replace the irreducibility of nonnegative matrices and propose an improved diagonal transformation algorithm for finding the maximum eigenvalue without any partitioning. The improved algorithm retains all of the benefits of the diagonal transformation algorithm while having fewer computations. Numerical examples are reported to show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. As an application, the improved algorithm is used to check whether a zero symmetric matrix is an H-matrix.

Abstract:It is well-known that most iterative methods for linear systems with strictly diagonally dominant coefficient matrix A are convergent. When A is not diagonally dominant, preconditioned techniques can be employed. In this note, a sparse preconditioning matrix with parameters alpha(2), alpha(3),..., alpha(n) is constructed for transforming a general H-matrix into a strictly diagonally dominant matrix. Also, we discuss the relationship between diagonally dominant property and the parameters alpha(2), alpha(3),..., alpha(n).

Abstract:In the paper, the concept of generalized equidiagonal-dominant matrix is introduced and a necessary and sufficient condition for a non-singular H-matrix is obtained. Abstract:The concept of strictly -diagonally dominant matrices is introduced. This concept is directly related to solving a system of equations. In the linear case, the strictly -diagonally dominant matrices contain the strictly diagonally dominant matrices. However, for systems of nonlinear equations, it is a challenge to present a better condition to make sure that the iteration algorithm used to solve them is convergent. A new class of nonlinear mappings and some properties are offered; moreover, the corresponding convergence theorems of the nonlinear Gauss-Seidel and Jacobi iterations are presented.

Abstract:Some new upper and lower bounds on determinants are presented for diagonally dominant matrices and general -matrices by using different methods. These bounds are some improvements of results given by Ostrowski (1952) and (1937), Price (1951), Wang and Zhang (2002), Huang and Liu (2005), and so forth. In addition, these bounds are also used to localize some numerical characters (e.g., the minimum eigenvalues, singular values and condition numbers) of certain matrices.

Abstract:Recently, an algorithm for constructing diagonally dominant preconditioners was given by Yuan and Yalamov [A method for constructing diagonally dominant preconditioners based on Jacobi rotations, Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2006, 174, 74-80]. Improvements on it are presented in this paper. The modified algorithm decreases the arbitrary parameters, and enhances arithmetic efficiency. Numerical examples show that the new method is often an improvement on the original one of Yuan and Yalamov. © 2009 Binary Information Press August, 2009.

Abstract:This paper develops a novel linear system based approach for computing ‖A-1‖∞, the Skeel condition number of an M-matrix A, and the positive diagonal matrices D guaranteeing that AD be a strictly diagonally dominant matrix. Theoretic analysis and simulation results justify the validity of the proposed approach. Moreover, the proposed linear system model can be implemented by application-specific integrated circuits, and then it has asynchronous parallel processing ability and can achieve high computing performance.

Abstract:Summary. This paper introduces a new perspective on the study of computational problems related to diagonally dominant M-matrices by establishing some new entrywise perturbation results. If a diagonally dominant M-matrix is perturbed in a way that each off-diagonal entry and its row sums (i.e. the quantities of diagonal dominance) have small relative errors, we show that its determinant, cofactors, each entry of the inverse and the smallest eigenvalue all have small relative errors. The error bounds are given and they do not depend on any condition number. Applying this result to the studies of electrical circuits and tail probabilities of a queue whose embedded Markov chains is of GI/M/1 type, we discuss the relative sensitivity of the operating speed of circuits and of the percentile of the queue length, respectively.

Abstract:A new criterion for identifying generalized diagonally dominant matrices (GDDM, or H-matrices) was given in [K. Ojiro, H. Niki, M. Usui, A note on a new criterion for the H-matrix property, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 150 (2003) 293–302], where the criterion is effective when the given matrix is irreducible. However, when the matrix is reducible, it may lead to a false answer. In this work, to overcome this drawback, we present an improved version. The new method is always convergent and needs fewer iterations than the earlier one. An interesting sufficient and necessary condition for any weakly diagonally dominant matrix (WDDM) to be an H-matrix is obtained. Finally, some numerical examples for the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm are presented.

A well-known theorem of Taussky on the eigenvalue distribution is extended to such matrices.
