Abstract:In this paper, we designed Parallel C Language, a kind of parallel programming Language, to implement parallel computing in distributed systems. It is to add some special identification statements on ANSI C Language. The parallel computing is based on C/S mode, incorporating multithread and RPC(remote procedure call). Multithread is used to cut tasks and concurrent the subtasks, and RPC is used to deploy and execute the subtasks on remote server nodes. The allocation of remote server nodes is dependent on load balancing mechanism. We also implemented the Pre-compiler of this Parallel C Language program, which parses the Parallel C Language program into several RPC application files. The other RPC application files are constructed by RPCGEN. The result of test shows that using this Parallel C Language to program in distributed systems reduces the codes size and makes full use of the system resources and improves efficiency.

Abstract:Many application partitioning methods have been proposed based on different functional modules in distributed environment to gain efficient use of resources, improved performance and high scalability. This paper introduces popular application partitioning architectures, and presents a different partitioning method and an on-line workload balance algorithm from a new perspective: runtime data, called data based application partitioning. This architecture benefits applications with higher performance, scalability and dynamic workload balancing. A financial trading system reengineered from J2EE standalone environment into data partitioning distributed environment gives a nice proof.
A Public Grid Computing Framework Based on a Hierarchical Combination of Middleware

Abstract:Grids, as one implementation of public computing, can be deployed by some middleware to integrate all kinds of resources across institutional boundaries, to tackle complex problems in scientific and engineering computation, data storage, scientific visualization, etc. In this paper, we propose a public computing grid framework built upon the hierarchical combination of two popular middleware products, Globus Toolkit (GT) and Sun Grid Engine (SGE). The communication between them can be conducted by Transfer-queue Over Globus (TOG). We discuss issues related to the deployment and the usage of this kind of hybrid grids. We examine it using serial programs and parallel program codes, and compare it with the grids deployed by only GT or SGE, respectively. The case studies imply that this hybrid grid is suitable for loosely coupled applications with high computational complexity.

Abstract:Inheritance mechanism of object oriented programming language realizes the isa relationship between child class and parent class;it enables child class to inherit the attributes and methods of its parent class;the object of child class becomes a valid parent class's object and has the functions of its parent class's object,so child class inherits and extends parent class's functions.But inheritance cannot be achieved easily across network's boundary in a distributed environment,and it's difficult to realize the inheritance between heterogeneous distributed objects.Based on the binding technology,a new distributed inheritance model is put forward:by binding other distributed objects,the functions of distributed object is boosted up and extended,thereby the purpose of distributed inheritance is obtained.

Abstract:System decomposition has become a research focus in software maintenance and evolution for a long time. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical decomposition method for object oriented systems based on identification of omnipresent clusters. The distinctive features of this approach are as follow: Firstly, we addressed the problem of omnipresent classes for class diagram. Secondly, we proposed a hierarchical decomposition strategy which can deal with unbalanced hierarchical organization for software system. Thirdly, we presented a revised independency metric that can offset the impact of the measured clusters' size. The experimental results show that this method can be both effective and efficient.

Abstract:The object dispatching policy of CORBA server-side is researched in CORBA distributed object network computing platforms. Currently in most CORBA platforms server-side, only a single object dispatching policy is provided, and object dispatching is without behavior control in basic object dispatching skeletons. Aiming at these problems, this paper presents a dispatching skeleton architecture, which adds a dispatching policy control layer in the basic object dispatching skeleton, thus client can customize dispatching policy in the layer. At the same time object dispatching policy is optimized by the partition and sharing methods of data hierarchy in the skeleton dispatching methods set, which enhances the space-time efficiency of object dispatching. Object dispatching policy above is implemented through extending CORBA IDL description.

Abstract:In decompiling OOP software,the decompilation must be able to reveal the framework of this software,so decompiler has to be able to identify the classes,the functions and attributes of classes,as well the relations between classes.Through the careful and deep analysis of the assembly code of object-oriented software generated by compiler,the paper concludes the special codes of class method and gives a method by which classes' member functions in software can be identified and classified.In this method,program slicing and simulation execution algorithm techniques etc are used.By using these techniques,an experiment system is developed,and the result of experiment shows that this method can identify about 80% of member functions in one class.

Abstract:System decomposition has been widely viewed as an effective means to facilitate the comprehension of complex software systems and/or capture potentially reusable components in them. In fact, various approaches to system decomposition have been intensively documented in the literature. However, during the process of system decomposition, only a few of them can also capture the target system's hierarchical organization structure, which is essential when the target system is very complex. In this paper, we present a biting-down approach to hierarchical decomposition of object-oriented systems. Compared with the previous hierarchical approaches, the distinct features of this approach are as follows. First, our approach does not rely on agglomeration, and thus can avoid some unnecessary calculations. Second, our approach does not require merging nodes when performing high-level decomposition, and thus can avoid imprecision induced by the merging. To evaluate our approach, we conducted a case study and an experimental study on our approach. The results of these studies can confirm its effectiveness and its superiority over our previous approach. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
A New Hybrid Hierarchical Parallel Algorithm to Enhance the Performance of Large-Scale Structural Analysis Based on Heterogeneous Multicore Clusters

Abstract:Heterogeneous multicore clusters are becoming more popular for high-performance computing due to their great computing power and cost-to-performance effectiveness nowadays. Nevertheless, parallel efficiency degradation is still a problem in large-scale structural analysis based on heterogeneous multicore clusters. To solve it, a hybrid hier-archical parallel algorithm (HHPA) is proposed on the basis of the conventional domain decomposition algorithm (CDDA) and the parallel sparse solver. In this new algorithm, a three-layer parallelization of the computational procedure is introduced to enable the separation of the communication of inter-nodes, heterogeneous-core-groups (HCGs) and inside-heterogeneous-core-groups through mapping computing tasks to various hardware layers. This approach can not only achieve load balancing at different layers efficiently but can also improve the communication rate significantly through hierarchical communication. Additionally, the proposed hybrid parallel approach in this article can reduce the interface equation size and further reduce the solution time, which can make up for the shortcoming of growing communication overheads with the increase of interface equation size when employing CDDA. Moreover, the distributed sparse storage of a large amount of data is introduced to improve memory access. By solving benchmark instances on the Shenwei-Taihuzhiguang supercomputer, the results show that the proposed method can obtain higher speedup and parallel efficiency compared with CDDA and more superior extensibility of parallel partition compared with the two-level parallel computing algorithm (TPCA).
PAPC: A Simple Distributed Parallel Computing Framework for Mass Legacy Code Tasks

Abstract:With the fast development of multi-core technology, future high performance computing system will be a system of many multi-core processors where parallel computing is a must. However, it is not an easy task in such an environment to run legacy code programs that are developed for machines of single-core processors to achieve the desired speedup. To deal with the problem, in this paper we put forward a parallel computing framework named PAPC on the basis of Proactive, an open source middleware that aims to ease the development of parallel and distributed applications and that has excellent support for high performance computing. We explain in detail the design and implementation of the PAPC and conduct some experiments to evaluate it. Experimental results show that the framework PAPC is of strong scalability, good adaptability and can make full use of the high performance of multi-core.

Abstract:With the development of software component technology, extraction of components from legacy systems has become a reasearch focus of both software reuse and program comprehension for its lower cost and high efficiency. In this paper, we analyze the independence metrics of component for object-oriented software system from the perspective of coupling, cohesion and scale. Then, we propose a software partition decoupling method based on interactive genetic algorithm. By the user adjusting individuals fitness value, reduce the crossover and mutation probability, our method in obtaining reasonable component partition result while avoiding algorithm premature convergence.

Abstract:In this paper, a parallel object collection (POC) model is introduced to support data parallelism in a parallel object-oriented system. This model is based on the idea of data partitioning and method replication. To achieve load-balancing, partition objects are dynamically migrated at runtime according to the system load situation. A threshold-based strategy is used in the dynamic load-balancing. To avoid over-convergence of load during partition object migration, a new destination node selection algorithm is proposed. The threshold values used in the algorithm are also adaptively adjusted to better reflect the fluctuation of the load during execution. To evaluate the performance of the dynamic load balancing algorithm, simulation experiments are conducted. The simulation results are reported and discussed in the paper.

Abstract:It is difficult to solve design optimization problems of complex systems by using a traditional computing method because complex simulation processes usually lead to large-scale computation. Therefore the distributed computing technology based on decomposition-coordination theory has received much attention by design engineers. This paper studies a peer-to-peer collaborative optimization method based on distributed computing technology in order to examine flexible optimization. A new distributed collaborative optimization framework is proposed, and a coordination method is developed and used to deal with the conflict of related variables among sub-optimization problems. A multi-agent based distributed computing environment is implemented. The implementation of an optimization agent, in which CORBA technology is used to implement communication between the components of the optimization agent, is discussed in detail. Two examples are used to demonstrate the efficiency of the computing method and the reliability and flexibility of the multi-agent system.

In this paper, we propose a communication cost reduction computes rule for irregular loop partitioning, called least communication computes rule. We partition a loop iteration to a processor on which the minimal communication cost is ensured when executing that iteration. The experimental results show that, in most cases, our approaches achieved better performance than other loop partitioning rules.

Abstract:It provides a powerful computational tool for the massively parallel structural dynamic analysis with the rise of the multi-core distributed memory supercomputer.According to the characteristics of the distributed computing environment,a hierarchical computing approach for the massively parallel struc-tural dynamic analysis is proposed.The proposed approach is based on the conventional domain decompo-sition method for implicit dynamic analysis and utilizes the strategies of two-level partitioning and twice condensation to complete the solution.It not only efficiently improves the convergence rate of interface equations by further reducing the problem size,but also significantly improves the communication effi-ciency with three-layer parallel computing.The proposed approach does not introduce any approximation for the finite element model.Therefore,it belongs to the exact hierarchical computing method based on domain decomposition method for dynamic analysis.Typical numerical experiments show that the com-putational accuracy of the proposed approach is equivalent with the full method of the commercial soft-ware ANSYS.Compared with the conventional domain decomposition method,the proposed approach is superior in the performance of parallel computing.

To offload or not to offload: An efficient code partition algorithm for mobile cloud computing

Abstract:A new class of cognition augmenting applications such as face recognition or natural language processing is emerging for mobile devices. This kind of applications is computation and power intensive and a cloud infrastructure would provide a great potential to facilitate the code execution. Since these applications usually consist of many composable components, finding the optimal execution layout is difficult in real time. In this paper, we propose an efficient code partition algorithm for mobile code offloading. Our algorithm is based on the observation that when a method is offloaded, the subsequent invocations will be offloaded with a high chance. Unlike the current approach which makes an individual decision for each component, our algorithm finds the offloading and integrating points on a sequence of calls by depth-first search and a linear time searching scheme. Experimental results show that, compared with the 0–1 Integer Linear Programming solver, our algorithm runs 2 orders of magnitude faster with more than 90% partition accuracy.

Abstract:This paper describes techniques used to leverage high-performance legacy codes as CORBA components to a distributed problem-solving environment. It first briefly introduces the software architecture adopted by the environment. Then it presents a CORBA oriented wrapper generator (COWG) which can be used to automatically wrap high-performance legacy codes as CORBA components. Two legacy codes have been wrapped with COWG. One is an MPI-based molecular dynamic simulation (MDS) code, the other is a finite element-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code for simulating incompressible Navier–Stokes flows. Performance comparisons between runs of the MDS CORBA component and the original MDS legacy code on a cluster of workstations and on a parallel computer are also presented. Wrapped as CORBA components, these legacy codes can be reused in a distributed computing environment. The first case shows that high-performance can be maintained with the wrapped MDS component. The second case shows that a Web user can submit a task to the wrapped CFD component through a Web page without knowing the exact implementation of the component. In this way, a user's desktop computing environment can be extended to a high-performance computing environment using a cluster of workstations or a parallel computer.

Abstract:A partition-based hybrid hierarchical graph computation approach, called H2Pregel is proposed to address the redundant supersteps and inefficient computation problems due to low access locality. The H2Pregel preprocesses the input graph through a distributed recode algorithm to ensure the continuity and sequence of vertex ids, then employs a hybrid approach to combine the advantages of both synchronous and asynchronous models, and hierarchically computes the high proportion of interior messages generated by high quality partition algorithms. Moreover, H2Pregel leverages configurable parallel threads to accelerate local computation by “sub-supersteps”, and employs an exterior messages stealing optimization to avoid extra communication overheads between tasks. We implemented H2Pregel on Giraph, a classic open source system based on Pregel. The evaluation results on large-scale graphs show that, compared with Pregel in three partition algorithms, H2Pregel can achieve average speedups by 1.12–4.52 times and decrease average communication messages by 23.5%-55.5%, and average supersteps by 15.8%-82.0%.
