Abstract:By introducing the Wigner operator into the complex scalar field we show that the newly constructed common eigenvector of scalar field and is an entangled state. The properties of field Wigner operator is also discussed.

Abstract:We derive the entangled eigenstate parallel to xi > Of complex scalar fields phi and phi(dagger) in the Fock space. The parallel to xi > state is found to embed the entanglement possessed by the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen states in quantum mechanics. The parallel to xi > set spans a complete and orthonormal representation. The advantage of the new <xi parallel to-representation helps us to derive the normally ordered forms of the squeezing and charge conjugate operators for complex scalar fields rather easily.

Abstract:We demonstrate the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) correlations in the Gaussian trial wavefunctional widely used in the Schrodinger representation of the self-interacting complex scalar fields (CSF). This demonstration is based on the explicit eigenstates \\xi >, which possess the precise EPR entanglement and constitute a complete and orthonormal representation, of CSF phi and phi (dagger) in the Fock space. To show the entanglement of the Gaussian trial wavefunctional, we evaluate in the < xi\\-representation its 'entangled' Wigner functional resembling the Wigner function of the two-mode squeezed vacuum state, whose quantum entanglement is well known.

Abstract:We investigate the entanglement of a three-level atom in Λ configuration interacting with two quantized field modes by using logarithmic negativity. Then, we study the relationship of the atomic coherence and the entanglement between two fields which are initially prepared in vacuum or thermal states. We find that if the two fields are prepared in thermal states,the atomic coherence can induce the entanglement between two thermal fields. However, there is no coherence-induced entanglement between two vacuum fields.

Abstract:For complex scalar fields phi (x) and phi(dagger) (x), we introduce the entangled states parallel to xi> which are their common eigenvectors. The parallel to xi> states possessing complete and orthonormal properties are a field-theoretical generalization of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pair states in quantum mechanics. Based on the new <xi parallel to representation, we obtain the complete and orthonormal states parallel to {q}, r>, the common eigenvectors of the charge operator and phi(dagger) (x) phi (x), with which the charge lowering and raising operators can be naturally defined. The applications of our formulation are briefly discussed.
Complex-valued Wigner entropy of a quantum state

Abstract:It is common knowledge that the Wigner function of a quantum state may admit negative values, so that it cannot be viewed as a genuine probability density. Here, we examine the difficulty in finding an entropy-like functional in phase space that extends to negative Wigner functions and then advocate the merits of defining a complex-valued entropy associated with any Wigner function. This quantity, which we call the complex Wigner entropy, is defined via the analytic continuation of Shannon's differential entropy of the Wigner function in the complex plane. We show that the complex Wigner entropy enjoys interesting properties, especially its real and imaginary parts are both invariant under Gaussian unitaries (displacements, rotations, and squeezing in phase space). Its real part is physically relevant when considering the evolution of the Wigner function under a Gaussian convolution, while its imaginary part is simply proportional to the negative volume of the Wigner function. Finally, we define the complex-valued Fisher information of any Wigner function, which is linked (via an extended de Bruijn's identity) to the time derivative of the complex Wigner entropy when the state undergoes Gaussian additive noise. Overall, it is anticipated that the complex plane yields a proper framework for analyzing the entropic properties of quasiprobability distributions in phase space.

Subsequently, we perform the Bogoliubov transformation and express the vacuum state with a particle pair state in the configuration space, which is used to calculate the entropy. This clearly demonstrates that the entanglement entropy originates from the particles across the boundary. Finally, we generalize this method to free spin-1 and spin-2 fields. These higher free massless spin fields have well-known complications owing to gauge redundancy. We deal with the redundancy by gauge-fixing in the light-cone gauge. We show that this gauge provides a natural tensor product structure in the Hilbert space, while surrendering explicit Lorentz invariance. We also use the Bogoliubov transformation to calculate the entropy. The area law emerges naturally by this method.

Abstract:We study the entanglement entropy within a spherical region for a free scalar field in a squeezed state in 3 + 1 dimensions. We show that, even for small squeezing, a volume term appears, whose coefficient is essentially independent of the field mass. This is in line with Page's argument that the entanglement entropy in an arbitrary quantum state is proportional to the number of degrees of freedom of the smaller subsystem. It follows that squeezed states can be considered as arbitrary quantum states, in contrast to the ground or coherent states that give rise to entanglement entropy dominated by a term proportional to the area of the entangling surface.

Abstract:We study entanglement entropy on the fuzzy sphere. We calculate it in a scalar field theory on the fuzzy sphere, which is given by a matrix model. We use a method that is based on the replica method and applicable to interacting fields as well as free fields. For free fields, we obtain results consistent with the previous study, which serves as a test of the validity of the method. For interacting fields, we perform Monte Carlo simulations at strong coupling and see a novel behavior of entanglement entropy.

Abstract:The entanglement entropy of a free scalar field in its ground state is dominated by an area law term. It is noteworthy, however, that the study of entanglement in scalar field theory has not advanced far beyond the ground state. In this paper, we extend the study of entanglement of harmonic systems, which include free scalar field theory as a continuum limit, to the case of the most general Gaussian states, namely the squeezed states. We find the eigenstates and the spectrum of the reduced density matrix and we calculate the entanglement entropy. Finally, we apply our method to free scalar field theory in 1+1 dimensions and show that, for very squeezed states, the entanglement entropy is dominated by a volume term, unlike the ground-state case. Even though the state of the system is time-dependent in a non-trivial manner, this volume term is time-independent. We expect this behaviour to hold in higher dimensions as well, as it emerges in a large-squeezing expansion of the entanglement entropy for a general harmonic system.

Abstract:We review some classic works on ground state entanglement entropy in $(1+1)$-dimensional free scalar field theory. We point out identifications between the methods for the calculation of entanglement entropy and we show how the formalism developed for the discretized theory can be utilized in order to obtain results in the continuous theory. We specify the entanglement spectrum and we calculate the entanglement entropy for the theory defined on an interval of finite length $L$. Finally, we derive the modular Hamiltonian directly, without using the modular flow, via the continuous limit of the expressions obtained in the discretized theory. In a specific coordinate system, the modular Hamiltonian assumes the form of a free field Hamiltonian on the Rindler wedge.

These unique properties play fundamental roles in field theory, especially, in the description of classical domains and quantum fluctuations of physical fields, in the calculations of physical processes involving infinite number of virtual particles, in the derivation of functional integrals and various effective field theories, also in the determination of long-range orders and collective excitations, and finally in the exploration of origins of topologically nontrivial gauge fields and associated gauge degrees of freedom.

Connections between Weyl geometry, quantum potential and quantum entanglement

Abstract:The Weyl geometry promises potential applications in gravity and quantum mechanics. We study the relationships between the Weyl geometry, quantum entropy and quantum entanglement based on the Weyl geometry endowing the Euclidean metric. We give the formulation of the Weyl Ricci curvature and Weyl scalar curvature in the $n$-dimensional system. The Weyl scalar field plays a bridge role to connect the Weyl scalar curvature, quantum potential and quantum entanglement. We also give the Einstein-Weyl tensor and the generalized field equation in 3D vacuum case, which reveals the relationship between Weyl geometry and quantum potential. Particularly, we find that the correspondence between the Weyl scalar curvature and quantum potential is dimension-dependent and works only for the 3D space, which reveals a clue to quantize gravity and a understanding why our space must be 3D if quantum gravity is compatible with quantum mechanics. We analyze numerically a typical example of two orthogonal oscillators to reveal the relationships between the Weyl scalar curvature, quantum potential and quantum entanglement based on this formulation. We find that the Weyl scalar curvature shows a negative dip peak for separate state but becomes a positive peak for the entangled state near original point region, which can be regarded as a geometric signal to detect quantum entanglement.

Abstract:We investigate quantum entanglement in high-energy 2 → 2 scalar scattering, where the scalars are characterized by an internal flavor quantum number acting like a qubit. Working at the 1-loop order in perturbation theory, we build the final-state density matrix as a function of the scattering amplitudes connecting the initial to the outgoing state. In this construction, the unitarity of the S -matrix is guaranteed at the required order by the optical theorem. We consider the post-scattering entanglement between the momentum and flavor degrees of freedom of the final-state particles, as well as the entanglement of the two-qubit flavor subsystem. In each case we identify the couplings of the scalar potential that can generate, destroy, or transfer entanglement between different bipartite subspaces of the Hilbert space.
