Abstract:The concept of gauge field is a cornerstone of modern physics and the synthetic gauge field has emerged as a new way to manipulate particles in many disciplines. In optics, several schemes of Abelian synthetic gauge fields have been proposed. Here, we introduce a new platform for realizing synthetic SU(2) non-Abelian gauge fields acting on two-dimensional optical waves in a wide class of anisotropic materials and discover novel phenomena. We show that a virtual non-Abelian Lorentz force arising from material anisotropy can induce light beams to travel along Zitterbewegung trajectories even in homogeneous media. We further design an optical non-Abelian Aharonov-Bohm system which results in the exotic spin density interference effect. We can extract the Wilson loop of an arbitrary closed optical path from a series of gauge fixed points in the interference fringes. Our scheme offers a new route to study SU(2) gauge field related physics using optics.

Abstract:We introduce a new n-mode Bose operator realization of SU(2) Lie algebra and link it to the two mutually conjugate multipartite entangled state representations. In so doing we are naturally lead to the n-mode entangle fractional Fourier transform (EFFT), which provides us with a convenient way to deriving the EFFT of quantum-mechanical wave functions.

Abstract:We find that the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) entangled state representation describing bipartite kinematics is closely related to a new Bose operator realization of SU(2) Lie algebra. By virtue of the new realization some Hamiltonian eigenfunction equation can be directly converted to the generalized confluent equation in the EPR entangled state representation and its solution is obtainable. This thus provides a new approach for studying dynamics of angular momentum systems.

Abstract:The technique of integration within an ordered product, which is now generalized to the supersymmetric case, together with the boson–fermion coherent states, is used to derive the normally ordered Bose–Fermi operator realization of the group SU(N/M). The mapping of the SU(N/M) fundamental representation in classical complex number–Grassmann number space into the realization in Hilbert space is manifestly shown in our formalism. The corresponding antinormally ordered realization is also discussed.

Abstract:We study a one-dimensional Bose system with repulsive delta-function interaction in the presence of an SU(2) intrinsic degree of freedom on the basis of the coordinate Bethe-ansatz. The ground state and the low-lying excitations are determined by both numerical and analytical methods. It is shown that the ground state is an isospin-ferromagnetic state, and the excitations are composed of three elementary particles: holons, antiholons, and isospinons. The isospinon is a triplet coupled to the "ferromagnetic" background anti-parallelly.

Abstract:We consider the quantum mechanical SU(2) transformation e(2 lambda Jz) J +/- e(-2 lambda Jz) = e(+/- 2 lambda)J(+/-) as if the meaning of squeezing with e(+/- 2 lambda) being squeezing parameter. By studying SU(2) operators (J(+/-), J(z)) from the point of view of squeezing we find that (J(+/-), J(z)) can also be realized in terms of 3-mode bosonic operators. Employing this realization, we find the natural representation (the eigenvectors of J(+) or J(-)) of the 3-mode squeezing operator e(2 lambda Jz). The idea of considering quantum SU(2) transformation as if squeezing is liable for us to obtain the new bosonic operator realization of SU(2) and new squeezing operators.

The nonlinear SO(3) algebras of vector and quadrupole types are realized respectively in the framework of Schwingrer's coupled boson representation of angular momentum theory. Abstract:In the nonlinear symmetries of quantum systems, explicit expressions were obtained for the indecomposable representation of the nonlinear angular momentum algebra I Ω on the space of its universal enveloping algebra and for two induced representations on the corresponding quotient spaces using Poincare Birkhoff Witt theory. These expressions were used to derive the inhomogeneous single , double and triple Boson realizations of I Ω. These results can be used to study nonlinear symmetries in quantum systems and the basic physical properties of these systems.

Abstract:In this paper, first, by introducing Holstein-Primakoff representation of alpha-deformed algebra, we achieve the associated non-linear coherent states, including su(2) and su(1,1) coherent states. Second, by using waveguide lattices with specific coupling coefficients between neighbouring channels, we generate these non-linear coherent states. In the case of positive values of alpha, we indicate that the Hilbert size space is finite; therefore, we construct this coherent state with finite channels of waveguide lattices. Finally, we study the field distribution behaviours of these coherent states, by using Mandel Q parameter. (C) 2015 Author(s).

Abstract:The ladder operator formalism of a general quantum state for su(1, 1) Lie algebra is obtained. The state bears the generally deformed oscillator algebraic structure. It is found that the Perelomov's coherent state is a su(1, 1) nonlinear coherent state. The expansion and the exponential form of the nonlinear coherent state are given. We obtain the matrix elements of the su(1, 1) displacement operator in terms of the hypergeometric functions and the expansions of the displaced number states and Laguerre polynomial states are followed. Finally some interesting su(1, 1) optical systems are discussed.

Abstract:We investigate the ground-state properties of Bose-Bose mixtures with Rashba-type spin-orbit (SO) coupling in a square lattice. The system displays rich physics from the deep Mott insulator (MI) all the way to the superfluid (SF) regime. In the deep MI regime, exotic spin-ordered phases arise due to the effective Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya type of superexchange interactions. By employing the nonperturbative bosonic dynamical mean-field theory (BDMFT), we numerically study and establish the stability of these magnetic phases against increasing hopping amplitude. We show that as hopping is increased across the MI to SF transition, exotic superfluid phases with magnetic textures emerge. In particular, we identify an exotic spin-spiral magnetic texture with spatial period 3 in the superfluid close to the MI-SF transition.

Abstract:Lie algebra is a hidden mathematical structure behind various quantum systems realised in nature. Here, we consider $SU(2)$ wavefunctions for polarisation states of coherent photons emitted from a laser source, and discuss the relationship to spin expectation values with SO(3) symmetry based on isomorphism theorems. In particular, we found rotated half-wave-plates correspond to mirror reflections in the Poincaré sphere, which do not form a subgroup in the projected O(2) plane due to anti-hermitian property. This could be overcome experimentally by preparing another half-wave-plate to realise a pristine rotator in $SU(2)$, which allows arbitrary rotation angles determined by the physical rotation. By combining another 2 quarter-wave-plates, we could also construct a genuine phase-shifter, thus, realising passive control over the full Poincaré sphere.

Abstract:Spin-orbit coupling in an optical lattice Studying topological matter in cold-atom systems may bring fresh insights, thanks to the intrinsic purity and controllability of this experimental setting. However, the necessary spin-orbit coupling can be tricky to engineer. Wu et al. conceived and experimentally demonstrated a simple scheme that involves only a single laser source and can be continuously tuned between one- and two-dimensional spin-orbit coupling (see the Perspective by Aidelsburger). Abstract:Having in mind the significance of parity (reflection) in various areas of physics, the single-mode and two-mode Wigner algebras are considered adding to them a reflection operator. The associated deformed $su(2)$ algebra, $su_{\nu}(2)$, and the deformed $so(3)$ algebra, $so_{\nu}(3)$, are constructed for the widely used Jordan-Schwinger and Holstein-Primakoff realizations, commenting on various aspects and ingredients of the formalism for both single-mode and two-mode cases. Finally, in this framework the parity-deformed $so_{\nu}(3)$ representation is analyzed, due to its potential application in the study of qubit and qutrit systems.
