Abstract:Ultrasonic imaging extends its application to many fields of medical measurement, with its natures Of low cost, portability, noninvasion and real time image formation, compared with other imaging techniques. However, unfortunately it may be damaged by ultrasonic speckle noise, which will degrade image quality and affect quantitative analysis. A feature preserving bidirectional flow scheme is put forth, where in the smoother segments a normal diffusion is performed to reduce noise along arbitrary directions; while on the edges an inverse diffusion is done to sharpen edges along the normal directions to the isophote lines (edges). In order to preserve image features such as edges, corners and fine part, the nonlinear diffusion coefficients are locally adjusted according to the first and second directional derivatives of the image.
