Abstract:Khan, King and Hudson [ANZIAM Journal, 55, 2014, C197-C217] introduced a novel three-parameter distribution, studied its mathematical properties and illustrated a data application. We show that a one-parameter distribution can provide a better fit to the data.

Abstract:A generalization of the generalized inverse Weibull distribution so-called transmuted generalized inverse Weibull dis- tribution is proposed and studied. We will use the quadratic rank transmutation map (QRTM) in order to generate a flexible family of probability distributions taking generalized inverse Weibull distribution as the base value distribution by introducing a new parameter that would offer more distributional flexibility. Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new three-parameter inverse Rayleigh distribution that extends the inverse Rayleigh distribution, constructed based on the generalized transmuted family of distributions proposed by Alizadeh, Merovci, and Hamedani. We explore statistical properties such as the quantile function, moments, harmonic mean, mean deviation, stress–strength reliability, and entropy. Parameter estimation is performed using various methods, including maximum likelihood, least squares, the method of the maximum product of spacings, and the method of Cramér–von Mises. The usefulness of the new three-parameter inverse Rayleigh distribution is illustrated by modeling a real dataset, demonstrating its superior fit compared to several other distributions.

Abstract:In parametric statistical modeling, it is essential to create generalizations of current statistical distributions that are more flexible when modeling actual data sets. Therefore, this study introduces a new generalized lifetime model named the odd Weibull Inverse Gompertz distribution (OWIG). The OWIG is derived by combining the odd Weibull family of distributions with the inverse Gompertz distribution. Essential statistical properties are discussed, including reliability functions, moments, Rényi entropy, and order statistics. The proposed OWIG is particularly significant as its hazard rate functions exhibit various monotonic and nonmonotonic shapes. This enables OWIG to model different hazard behaviors more commonly observed in natural phenomena. OWIG's parameters are estimated and its flexibility in predicting unique symmetric and asymmetric patterns is shown by analyzing real-world applications from psychology, environmental, and medical sciences. The results demonstrate that the proposed OWIG is an excellent candidate as it provides the most accurate fits to the data compared with some competing models.

Abstract:In this article, we proposed an inverse Lindley distribution and studied its fundamental properties such as quantiles, mode, stochastic ordering and entropy measure. The proposed distribution is observed to be a heavy-tailed distribution and has a upside-down bathtub shape for its failure rate. Further, we proposed its applicability as a stress-strength reliability model for survival data analysis. The estimation of stress-strength parameters and $R=P[X>Y]$, the stress-strength reliability has been approached by both classical and Bayesian paradigms. Under Bayesian set-up, non-informative (Jeffrey) and informative (gamma) priors are considered under a symmetric (squared error) and a asymmetric (entropy) loss functions, and a Lindley-approximation technique is used for Bayesian computation. The proposed estimators are compared in terms of their mean squared errors through a simulation study. Two real data sets representing survival of Head and Neck cancer patients are fitted using the inverse Lindley distribution and used to estimate the stress-strength parameters and reliability.

Methodology

Abstract:In this article, we propose a new three parameter distribution by compounding negative binomial with reciprocal inverse Gaussian model called negative binomial-reciprocal inverse Gaussian distribution. This model is tractable with some important properties not only in actuarial science but in other fields as well where overdispersion pattern is seen. Some basic properties including recurrence relation of probabilities for computation of successive probabilities have been discussed. In its compound version, when the claims are absolutely continuous, an integral equation for the probability density function is discussed. Brief discussion about extension of univariate version have also been done to its respective multivariate version. parameters involved in the model have been estimated by Maximum Likelihood Estimation technique. Applications of the proposed distribution are carried out by taking two real count data sets. The result shown that the negative binomial-reciprocal inverse Gaussian distribution gives better fit when compared to the Poisson and negative binomial distributions.

Abstract:In this article, we propose two new discrete distributions, the negative binomial-weighted Weibull and the zero truncated negative binomial-weighted Weibull distributions. Some statistical properties of the proposed distributions are presented. The parameter estimates for the proposed distributions have been derived by the maximum likelihood estimation. The applications of the proposed distributions to real data sets in order to compare the performance with other distributions. The criteria for selecting the best fitted distribution are test statistics, i.e., the chi-square test and the Kolmogorov–Smirnov (K-S) test for discrete distributions.

Abstract:In this paper, a new transmuted three-parameter Lindley distribution (TTHPLD) is established using the transmutation map method, which includes the Lindley distribution, two-parameter Lindley distribution, transmuted two-parameter Lindley distribution and three-parameter Lindley distribution as special cases. The statistical properties of the TTHPLD model, which are based on moments, order statistics, hazard rate functions, reliability functions, and Renyi entropy, have been studied. Moreover, the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the TTHPLD are obtained via differential evolution algorithms, and a simulation study is conducted to evaluate the consistency of the MLEs. Finally, the proposed distribution is applied to a real dataset and compared with other well-known models.

Abstract:In this article, we introduce a new three-parameter distribution called the discrete Weibull exponential (DWE) distribution, based on the use of a discretization technique for the Weibull-G family of distributions. This distribution is noteworthy, as its probability mass function presents both symmetric and asymmetric shapes. In addition, its related hazard function is tractable, exhibiting a wide range of shapes, including increasing, increasing–constant, uniform, monotonically increasing, and reversed J-shaped. We also discuss some of the properties of the proposed distribution, such as the moments, moment-generating function, dispersion index, Rényi entropy, and order statistics. The maximum likelihood method is employed to estimate the model's unknown parameters, and these estimates are evaluated through simulation studies. Additionally, the effectiveness of the model is examined by applying it to three real data sets. The results demonstrate that, in comparison to the other considered distributions, the proposed distribution provides a better fit to the data.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a new class of bivariate negative binomial distributions having marginal distributions with different index parameters. This feature is useful in statistical modelling and simulation studies, where different marginal distributions and a specified correlation are required. This feature also makes it more flexible than the existing bivariate generalizations of the negative binomial distribution, which have a common index parameter in the marginal distributions. Various interesting properties, such as canonical expansions and quadrant dependence, are obtained. Potential application of the proposed class of bivariate negative binomial distributions, as a bivariate mixed Poisson distribution, and computer generation of samples are examined. Numerical examples as well as goodness-of-fit to simulated and real data are also given here in order to illustrate the application of this family of bivariate negative binomial distributions.

Abstract:We propose the notion of sub-Weibull distributions, which are characterised by tails lighter than (or equally light as) the right tail of a Weibull distribution. This novel class generalises the sub-Gaussian and sub-Exponential families to potentially heavier-tailed distributions. Sub-Weibull distributions are parameterized by a positive tail index $\theta$ and reduce to sub-Gaussian distributions for $\theta=1/2$ and to sub-Exponential distributions for $\theta=1$. A characterisation of the sub-Weibull property based on moments and on the moment generating function is provided and properties of the class are studied. An estimation procedure for the tail parameter is proposed and is applied to an example stemming from Bayesian deep learning.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a new kind of multivariate t distribution by allowing different degrees of freedom for each univariate component. Compared with the classical multivariate t distribution, it is more flexible in the model specification that can be used to deal with the variant amounts of tail weights on marginals in multivariate data modeling. In particular, it could include components following the multivariate normal distribution, and it contains the product of independent t-distributions as a special case. Subsequently, it is extended to the regression model as the joint distribution of the error terms. Important distributional properties are explored and useful statistical methods are developed. The flexibility of the specified structure in better capturing the characteristic of data is exemplified by both simulation studies and real data analyses.

Abstract:In this paper, a new discrete distribution have been proposed, which is the mixed distribution between the negative binomial (NB) distribution and Kumaraswamy–Lindley (KL) distribution called the negative binomial–Kumaraswamy Lindley (NB-KL) distribution. The NB-KL distribution has a special case, that is, a negative binomial weighted Lindley distribution. Some properties of the NB-KL distribution are discussed, e.g., mean, variance, factorial moment. Also, the graphical representations related to the probability mass function of the as NB-KL distribution is provided. We conduct a simulation study and the criterion in parameter estimator comparison is the root mean square error. In application study, the Komogorov–Smirnov goodness of fit test based on the Poisson and negative binomial distributions are discussed. The result emphasize that the NB-KL distribution can be considered as a competitive distribution for count data analysis.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce, for the first time, the Weibull-Geometric distribution which generalizes the exponential-geometric distribution proposed by Adamidis and Loukas (1998). The hazard function of the last distribution is monotone decreasing but the hazard function of the new distribution can take more general forms. Unlike the Weibull distribution, the proposed distribution is useful for modeling unimodal failure rates. We derive the cumulative distribution and hazard functions, the density of the order statistics and calculate expressions for its moments and for the moments of the order statistics. We give expressions for the Rényi and Shannon entropies. The maximum likelihood estimation procedure is discussed and an algorithm EM (Dempster et al., 1977; McLachlan and Krishnan, 1997) is provided for estimating the parameters. We obtain the information matrix and discuss inference. Applications to real data sets are given to show the flexibility and potentiality of the proposed distribution.

Abstract:This article proposes and studies a new three-parameter generalized model of the inverse Gompertz distribution, in the so-called Kumaraswamy inverse Gompertz distribution. The main advantage of the new model is that it has "an upside down bathtub-shaped curve hazard rate function" depending upon the shape parameters. Several of its statistical and mathematical properties including quantiles, median, mode, moments, probability weighted moment, entropy function, skewness and kurtosis are derived. Moreover, the reliability and hazard rate functions, mean time to failure, mean residual and inactive lifetimes are also concluded. The maximum likelihood approach is done here to estimate the new model parameters. A simulation study is conducted to examine the performance of the estimators of this model. Finally, the usefulness of the proposed distribution is illustrated with different engineering applications to complete, type-II right censored, and upper record data and it is found that this model is more flexible when it is compared to well-known models in the statistical literature.

Abstract:The Waring distribution is an important two-parameter discrete distribution, commonly used in fields such as ecology, linguistics, and information science, where heavy tails are often observed. In this paper, we propose a new goodness-of-fit test for the Waring distribution, which is established through the hazard rate and a linear equivalent definition of the Waring distribution. We establish an asymptotic Chi-square null distribution for the proposed test and show that it is more powerful than classical methods in simulation studies. Finally, we apply the test to analyze the authorships of published papers on computer science.

Abstract:Motivated by the need for parametric families of rich and yet tractable distributions in financial mathematics, both in pricing and risk management settings, but also considering wider statistical applications, we investigate a novel technique for introducing skewness or kurtosis into a symmetric or other distribution. We use a "transmutation" map, which is the functional composition of the cumulative distribution function of one distribution with the inverse cumulative distribution (quantile) function of another. In contrast to the Gram-Charlier approach, this is done without resorting to an asymptotic expansion, and so avoids the pathologies that are often associated with it. Examples of parametric distributions that we can generate in this way include the skew-uniform, skew-exponential, skew-normal, and skew-kurtotic-normal.

Abstract:In this communication, we introduce a new statistical model and study its various mathematical properties. The expressions for hazard rate, reversed hazard rate, and odd functions are provided. We explore the asymptotic behaviors of the density and hazard functions of the newly proposed model. Further, moments, median, quantile, and mode are obtained. The cumulative distribution and density functions of the general $k$th order statistic are provided. Sufficient conditions, under which the likelihood ratio order between two inverse generalized linear failure rate (IGLFR) distributed random variables holds, are derived. In addition to these results, we introduce several estimates for the parameters of IGLFR distribution. The maximum likelihood and maximum product spacings estimates are proposed. Bayes estimates are calculated with respect to the squared error loss function. Further, asymptotic confidence and Bayesian credible intervals are obtained. To observe the performance of the proposed estimates, we carry out a Monte Carlo simulation using $R$ software. Finally, two real-life data sets are considered for the purpose of illustration.

Abstract:In this paper we study, in the context of weighted function spaces of continuous functions, a class of integral operators of probabilistic type, which are constructed by means of the Weibull distribution, and a suitable modification that preserves linear functions. We study the approximation properties of those two sequences of operators and we present estimates of the rate of convergence, as well as some asymptotic formulae. In particular, we prove that the proposed modification has a better rate of convergence. Finally, we show how the modified Weibull operators can be fruitfully employed to approximate suitable positive -semigroups.
