Abstract:Objective: To supply more evidences for the neural mechanisms underlying the dysfunction of episodic memory and memory related dysfunctions in depression by resting state MRI study.Method: 16 recurrent patients with MDD and 16 gender-, age-, and education-matched healthy subjects participated in the functional MRI scans. Results: Compared with healthy subjects, the left hippocampus in depressed patients exhibited increased functional connectivities in the right inferior frontal gyrus and the right subgenual cingulate, but decreased functional connectivities in the left superior frontal gyrus, the right precuneus and the left fusiform gyrus. The right hippocampus in depressed patients exhibited decreased functional connectivities with the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the left medial frontal gyrus, the right precuneus, the left inferior parietal lobule, the left parahippocampal gyrus and the left insula compared with healthy subjects. Conclusions: The findings indicate that functional connectivity pattens of hippocampus were disrupted in depressed patients during resting state. and give new findings for the neural mechanisms underlying episodic memory and memory related dysfunction in depression from a network perspective.
