Abstract:Cement mortars used for repairing concrete barriers, on which surface scaling deterioration due to deicer salts and freeze-thaw have occurred, are required to have good cracking resistance and durability. In this paper, the effect of dispersible copolymer powder, polyacrylonitrile fibers and basalt fibers on the consistency, strength, cracking resistance of cement mortars at early age and scaling resistance were studied. The results showed that adding copolymer powder and fibers improved the cracking resistance of mortars but decreased the consistency slightly. Copolymer powder reduced the compressive strength but increased the flexural strength at 28 days. The strength of mortars with polyacrylonitrile fibers reduced at early age but increased at 28 days, while basalt fibers or the hybrid of two fibers improved the strength from the early age to 28 days. Adding copolymer powder or polyacrylonitrile fibers improved the scaling resistance of mortars, and they were more effective working with air entrainment.
