Abstract:Fleas, considered to be the main transmission vectors of Bartonella , are highly prevalent and show great diversity. To date, no investigations have focused on Bartonella vectors in Southeast China. The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiological and molecular characteristics of Bartonella in fleas in Southeast China.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to investigate the epidemiology and molecular characteristics of Bartonella in fleas in southeastern China, and to evaluate the public health risks of Bartonella transmission in natural habitats due to the host - vector relationship between rodents and fleas. Specifically, the research objectives include: 1. **Detect Bartonella infection**: Detect Bartonella DNA in flea samples from rodents captured in seven inland and coastal cities in southeastern China by real - time PCR (qPCR) technology. 2. **Analyze the infection rate and distribution**: Evaluate the Bartonella infection rates of different flea species, genders, host species, regions and habitats, and analyze the correlations between these factors and Bartonella infection. 3. **Identify Bartonella genotypes**: Identify Bartonella genotypes by performing conventional PCR amplification and sequencing on positive samples, and conduct phylogenetic analysis. 4. **Evaluate public health risks**: Among the identified Bartonella genotypes, determine which are zoonotic pathogens, thereby evaluating the potential threats of these Bartonella to human health. Through these studies, the authors hope to understand the prevalence and genetic diversity of Bartonella in fleas in southeastern China, and provide a scientific basis for formulating corresponding public health measures.
