Abstract:It is crucial to construct an effective photocatalyst for the removal of dyes from aqueous environments. In the present work, a novel cobalt-based coordination polymer was synthesized and characterized with the molecular formula [Co(ipa)(ptt)] n ( Co-CP ), (ipa = isophthalic acid, ptt = 5-(4-Pyridyl)-1H-tetrazole). In Co-CP , each cobalt ion is in a six-coordination mode and is connected to two adjacent ligands to form a three-dimensional network structure. Furthermore, Co-CP excellent degradation properties and can effectively degrade methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (Rh B) under visible light with degradation efficiencies of 84.3 % and 94.6 %, respectively. Additionally, it demonstrates exceptional stability as evidenced by consistent PXRD and FT-IR spectra after three cycles, as well as remarkable reusability with no significant decrease in degradation ability after three cycles. The photocatalytic degradation mechanism was subsequently rationalized through free radical trapping experiments and analysis the energy band structure of Co-CP .

Abstract:Coordination polymers (CPs) are a diverse class of multi-dimensional compounds that show promise as photocatalysts for degrading dyes in polluted water. Herein, a new 1D Cd(II)-based coordination polymer with the formula [Cd(bpyp)(nba)2] (1) (bpyp = 2,5-bis(pyrid-4-yl)pyridine and Hnba = 4-nitrobenzoic acid) is synthesized and characterized. In 1, the two carboxyl groups of two different nba− ligands show μ2-η1:η1 and μ1-η1:η1 coordination modes to connect the CdII centers and sit on either side of the chain along the b direction. The produced CP 1 was utilized as the photocatalyst in the process of the photodegradation of methyl blue (MB), methyl orange (MO), rhodamine B (RhB), and methyl violet (MV) dyes when exposed to UV light. The photocatalytic degradation activities of CP 1 were analyzed, and the results suggest that it exhibits an extraordinary efficiency in the degradation of MB, MV, MO, and RhB. RhB has a 95.52% efficiency of degradation, whereas MV has a 58.92% efficiency, MO has 35.44%, and MB has 29.24%. The photodecomposition of dyes is catalyzed mostly by •O2− and •OH−, as shown by research involving the trapping of radicals.

Abstract:Two new Cu(II)/Co(II) coordination polymer (CPs) namely, [Co-2(H2O)(2)(L)(2)(2,2'-bipy)(2)center dot H2O] (1) and [Cu-2(L)(2)(bbi)] (2) (H2L= 3,3'-(1,2-phenylenebis(methyleneoxy)) dibenzoic acid, bbi = 1,1'-(1,4-butanediyl)bis(imidazole), 2,2,'-bipy=2,2,'-bipyridine), have been designed and synthesized. 1 has 1D helical structure built by the connectivity of Co atoms and phenolic-oxygen containing branches of the flexible dicarboxylate linkages, which was further form a 2D supramolecular sheet through the strong pi center dot center dot center dot pi stacking interactions and H-bonded interactions. 2 exhibits 2D layer constructed by the double [Cu4L2] chains and anti-conformational bbi ligands. The current results illustrated that the N-donor ligand may play a distinct effect in the formation of these mortifies. Abstract:Four coordination polymers (CPs) based on π-conjugated polypyridyl ligand {[Cu(HL) (5-Me-IPA)]·0.25H2O}n (1), {[Co(HL) (5-Me-IPA)]·0.25H2O}n (2), {[Zn(HL) (5-Me-IPA)]}n (3) and {[Zn(HL) (5-Me-IPA)]·H2O}n (4) (HL = 4'-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4,2':6′,4″-terpyridine, 5-Me-IPA = 5-methyl-iso-Phthalic acid) have been solvothermally synthesized by controlling metal centers and pH condition, exhibiting three-dimensional framework with Schläfli symbol of 66 (for 1) and 658 (for 2) and two-dimensional network for 3 and 4. The photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) over 1–4 have been investigated, indicating complex 1 exhibits the best photocatalytic activity with degradation rates of 83.9% (for MB in 150 min) and 70.7% (for MO in 300 min) resulting from the band gap, position of valence band energy levels, separation of electrons and holes, and charge carrier mobility regulated by copper center. This work provides an example of structure-function relationship for photodegradation of organic dyes over coordination polymers.

Abstract:Two new coordination polymers (CPs) namely, [Cd2(btc)(bmi)2·4H2O·DMF] (1) and [Zn2(L)(bmi)·5H2O] (2) have been synthesized utilizing mixed ligand strategy by reacting Cd(II) salt with benzene-tetracarboxylic acid (H4btc) and 1,5-bis(2-methylimidazol-1-yl)pentane (bmi) and Zn(II) salt with 5-[bis(4-carboxybenzyl)-amino]isophthalic acid (H4L) and 1,5-bis(2-methylimidazol-1-yl)pentane (bmi). The single crystal X-ray diffraction indicated that 1 has 2D network with (4,4) topology based on [Cd2(COO)4] secondary building units (SBUs), while 2 displays an undulating 2D (4, 4)-network by μ4-(L)4- ligands, which can be further interlinked into 3D supramolecular layer through hydrogen bonding interactions. Both of them have been tested as possible photocatalysts for the photodegradation of a model organic dye methyl violet (MV). The photocatalytic studies indicate that 1 and 2 show potential photocatalyts for degradation of MV. Furthermore, the possible photocatalytic mechanisms have been explained on the basis of density of states plots.

Abstract:A ether-bridged dicarboxylic acid, 4,4′-{[1,2-phenylenebis-(methylene)]bis(oxy) dibenzoic acid (H2L), was used as highly versatile building block for the hydrothermal generation of a series of coordination polymeric architectures in thepresence of 1,1′-(1,4-butanediyl)bis(imidazole) (bbi) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen). These were formulated as [Co2(L)2(bbi)·CH3CN]n (1), [Cu(L)(bbi)]n (2), [Co(L)(phen)(H2O)]n (3), and [Cu(L)(phen)(H2O)·2CH3CN]n (4), have been synthesized and characterized. Thenature of the N-donor building blocks and metal ions have a significant effect on the structural diversity. Photocatalytic properties of selected materials were investigated, showing that 2is a promising photocatalyst for the UV-light-driven degradation of methyl violet (MV) as a model organic dye pollutant.

Abstract:Industrial wastewater with organic pollutants has become one of the most serious problems related to our human environment. One possible treatment is to develop environmentally friendly and efficient photocatalysts. Coordination polymers (CPs) with a structural regularity and synthetic stability provide an important possibility to perform photodegradation. Doping CPs with metal ions or loading CPs on carbon nanomaterials can extend their photoresponse region and thus enhance their catalytic activity toward the photodegradation of organic dyes. In this article, we briefly highlight some of the latest progress in the photodegradation of organic dyes using modified CP-based catalysts. The decomposition of nitro- and chloroaromatics using CPs as photocatalysts is also described.

Abstract:Coordination polymers (CPs) are peculiar class of multidimensional materials which can be employed as photocatalytic materials to decompose lethal aromatic dyes present in waste-water discharge. Herein, four new Zn(II)/Cd(II) coordination polymers (CPs) namely [Cd2(H2O)(H3L)2(2,2′-bipy)2]·H2O (1), [Zn2(HL)(H2O)2(2,2′-bipy)2]·H2O (2), [Cd2(HL)(bmb)0.5(H2O)]·2H2O (3) and [Zn4(L)2(bpz)4·H2bpz]·4H2O (4) (H5L = 3,5-bis(3,4-dicarboxylphenoxy)benzoic acid, 2,2′-bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine, bmb = 1,4-bis(2-methylimidazol-1-yl)butane, bpz = 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethyl-4,4′-bipyrazole), have been synthesized solvothermally and characterized. The single crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that CPs 1 and 2 exhibit 2D supramolecular framework built by the hydrogen bond interactions between adjacent chains. The CP 3 features a 2D double layer while 4 display 3D 3,3,4,4-connected topology with point symbol {4.6.84}{4.6.8}{62.84}{62.8}. All these newly synthesized materials exhibit photocatalytic properties and the results demonstrated that they exhibit efficient photocatalytic performances to selectively degrade methylene blue (MB) among the dyes viz. methylene orange (MO), acid orange (AO), congo red (CR) and acid chrome blue (ACB) under UV irradiation. A mechanistic investigation toward better understanding of the photocatalytic degradation of MB has been carried out using LC-MS studies. Also computational investigation by performing band gap calculations have been accomplished to address the probable mechanistic pathway which further have been assisted with Hirshfeld surface analysis.

Abstract:Five novel coordination polymers based on the 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid (H2pdca), namely [Co(pdca)(bibp)0.5H2O)2]n (1), [Ni(pdca)(bibp)0.5(H2O)2]n (2), [Co(pdca)(bbibp)1.5]n (3), [Ni(pdca)(bbibp)1.5]n (4) and Zn(pdca)(bbibp)0.5]n (5) (bibp = 4,4′-bis(imidazole) biphenyl, bbibp = 4,4′-bis(benzoimidazo-l-yl)biphenyl and DMF = N, N'dimethylformamide) have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that all the complexes have 3D framework structures. In addition, the properties of the complexes for photo-catalytic degradation of organic dyes were discussed. Moreover, luminescence studies reveal that complex 5 shows strong luminescent property and could be a fluorescence sensor for the detection of Cr2O72−ion and antibiotics chloramphenicol. The Ksv values of 5 for Cr2O72− ion and chloramphenicol are 8.05 × 103 M−1 and 6.69 × 103 M−1, respectively. Meanwhile, the possible mechanism for the luminescence quenching of 5 has been discussed.

Abstract:Coordination polymers are multidimensional materials that can be utilized as photocatalytic materials for photodegradation of aromatic dyes. Herein, a new d10-configuration based Ag(I) supramolecular coordination polymer (CP) having formula {[Ag3(bib)2]·(H3L)2} (1) has been synthesized solvothermally using 1,3-bis(3,5-dicarboxylphenoxy)benzene (H4L) and 1,4-bis(1-imidazoly)benzene) (bib) ligands. The diimidazole ligand (bib) coordinates with Ag(I) where metal center adopts bi-coordinate linear-geometry to form cationic 1D coordinate chain, which is wrapped between 2D hydrogen-bonded organic plane to engender 3D suramolecular network. The CP is used as photocatalyst for the safe and sustainable decomposition of aromatic dyes. The percentage decomposition of dyes methylene orange (MO), Rhodamine B (Rh B), methylene blue (MB) and basic green (BG) are 5.44%, 61.38%, 63.75% and 83.31%, respectively under UV light irradiation. The plausible pathway using which the CP executed the decomposition of dyes proposed by theoretical calculations.

Abstract:Coordination polymers (CPs) are an assorted class of coordination complexes that are gaining attention for the safe and sustainable removal of organic dyes from wastewater discharge by either adsorption or photocatalytic degradation. Herein, three different coordination polymers with compositions [Ni(HL)(H2O)21.9H2O] (1), [Mn3(HL)(L)(μ3-OH)(H2O)(phen)22H2O] (2), and [Cd(HL)4(H2O)]H2O (3) (H3L = 2-(3,5-dicarboxyphenyl)-6-carboxybenzimidazole; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) have been synthesized and characterized spectroscopically and by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Single crystal X-ray diffraction results indicated that 1 forms a 2D layer-like framework, while 2 exhibits a 3-connected net with the Schläfli symbol of (44.6), and 3 displays a 3D supramolecular network in which two adjacent 2D layers are held by ππ interactions. All three compounds have been used as photocatalysts to catalyze the photodegradation of antibiotic dinitrozole (DTZ) and rhodamine B (RhB). The photocatalytic results suggested that the Mn-based CP 2 exhibited better photodecomposition of DTZ (91.1%) and RhB (95.0%) than the other two CPs in the time span of 45 min. The observed photocatalytic mechanisms have been addressed using Hirshfeld surface analyses.

Abstract:Photocatalytic degradation of dyes is an extremely difficult but very important issue in the field of environment protection. Two coordination polymers (CPs) [Cu(3-bpah)(HD)]n (1) and [Cu(3-dpye)0.5(HD)]n (2) [3-bpah = N,N'-bis(3-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,2-cyclohexane, 3-dpye = N,N'-bis(3-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,2-ethane, H2HD = hexanedioic acid] were successfully synthesized by tuning the auxiliary ligands under the hydrothermal conditions. CPs 1 and 2 exhibited different compositions because of different N-donor ligands, which were used as precursors for preparation of metal oxide heterojunctions. Doping foreign element into intrinsic CP-based materials is an effective way to enhance the photocatalytic activity, thus we design a facile method to synthesize a series of carbon-coated metal oxide heterojunctions which derived by two Cu-based CPs (Cu@V-1, Cu@V-2, Cu@Mo-1, Cu@Mo-2, Cu@W-1 and Cu@W-2) in this work for the first time. Benefiting from the formation of carbon shell and regulation of electronic structure through doping molybdenum and generating Mo2C phase, the photocatalytic degradation rates are 94.84% for MB, 76.02% for RhB, 52.29% for MO, and 86.18% for CR after 4 h.

Abstract:Two 1D coordination polymers based on transition metals, namely [Co(4,4′-bpy)2(H2bptc)] (1) and [Ni(4,4′-bpy)(H2O)4](H2bptc)·2H2O (2) (4,4′-bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine; H4bptc = 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid), had been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, and UV–Vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy. The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue, methyl orange, and rhodamine B by these complexes under UV light irradiation was investigated and shows that both complexes can catalyze each of these reactions. A possible catalytic mechanism is proposed in terms of the HOMO–LUMO gap and the associated light-induced transitions in these complexes. This was further supported by ·OH radicals trapping experiments using isopropanol as radical scavenger. Complex 1 showed no obvious decay of photocatalytic efficiency even after recycling five times, implying excellent stability and recyclability.

Abstract:Two coordination polymers, [Zn(5-aip)(bpy)(0.5)]center dot H2O (1), and [Ni(5-aip)(bpy)(0.5)(H2O)]center dot 2H(2)O (2), constructed by 5-aminoisophthalic acid (5-H(2)aip), 4,4'-bipyridine (bpy), and corresponding ions, have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions, and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), CHN elemental analysis and UV-Visible diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-Vis DRS). Both 1 and 2 were built up of two-dimensional [Zn(5-aip)(bpy)(0.5)] and [Ni(5-aip)(bPY)(0.5)(H2O)] sheets, respectively. The UV-Vis DRS results revealed that the E-g values of 1 and 2 are 3.4 and 2.4 eV, respectively. The photocatalytic activities of degradation of methyl orange (MO), methylene blue (MB) and MO&MB mixture over 1 and degradation of MB over 2 under UV light irradiation were investigated. Abstract:Chalcogenolate clusters Cd6Ag4(EPh)16(DMF)3(CH3OH) (E = S, Se) with supertetrahedral structures are isolated. Further interlinking the clusters with organic linker 4,4'-trimethylenedipiperidine in the stepwise assembly approach forms two-dimensional coordination polymers. The clusters and the coordination polymers show tunable band gaps and efficient photocatalytic activities for the degradation of aqueous dye solution. This study demonstrates the great potential of using chalcogenolate clusters and their coordination polymers in photocatalysis applications.

Abstract:Two coordination polymers (CPs), namely, {[Cd(L1)(1,4-ndc)](n) (CP 1) and {[Cd(L2)(1.5)(BDC-Cl-4)]center dot H2O}(n) (CP 2) (L1 = 1,4-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)butane, L2 = 1,6-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)hexane, 1,4-H(2)ndc = 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, and H2BDC-Cl-4 = 2,3,5,6-tetrachloroterephthalic acid) were synthesized and characterized by IR spectra, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. CP 1 is a 4-connected Cd(II) CP with a 3D 2-fold interpenetrated cds framework. CP 2 is a 3D 5 -connected architecture with sqc12 topology. The CPs 1 and 2 present excellent photocatalytic activities for degrading of methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) under UV light irradiation. Moreover, the photoluminescence properties and thermal stabilities of CP 1 and CP 2 are also discussed. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
