Abstract:In the present study, the sub-scaled gaseous hydrogen and gaseous oxygen (GH2/GO2) heat sink engine and the corresponding injection panels with cylindrical holes are designed to investigate the thermal loads and the film cooling in the near-injector region. Moreover, a series of rocket engine hot-tests are carried out to study the influence of different parameters on the gas film cooling efficiency. Obtained results show that the peak of heat flux and temperature appears at the inner wall position near the injection panel. Adding the gas film reduces thermal loads on the inner wall of the combustion chamber, especially in the near-injector region, while weakens the inhomogeneity of thermal loads along the axial direction. It is found that increasing the film flow rate ratio significantly improves the cooling efficiency and reduces the circumferential unevenness of the cooling effect. It is found that the cooling efficiency is proportional to the 1.2 power of the film flow rate ratio. Moreover, it is concluded that the smaller film holes are more conducive to the cooling effect for the low film flow rate ratio. Furthermore, it is observed that applying an appropriate incidence angle of the film holes within the range of 0??10? would lead to higher cooling efficiencies. As the film flow rate ratio increases, the advantage of film holes with a diameter of 1.2 mm on the cooling effect increases. Meanwhile, higher cooling efficiency is achieved when the gas film enters the combustion chamber parallel to the wall.
