Abstract:The Stochastic response, stability and reliability of quasi-linear systems subject to multi-time-delayed feedback control and wide-band random excitation are studied by using the stochastic averaging method for quasi Hamiltonian systems. It is verified that the time delay affect the response, the asymptotic stability and the first-passage time greatly, but the deterioration can be almost eliminated if the delay time can be set correctly. All the results are confirmed by Monte Carlo simulation.

Abstract:The studies from 1999 to now on dynamics of delayed systems are reviewed in this paper. They concern mechanics, mechanical engineering, aeronautics and astronautics, ecology, biology, neural network, laser, electronics, information technology, security communication, economics and so on. The typical methods and techniques are discaussed. It is shown that the delayed systems are ubiquitous in nature and engineering. Many new problems and phenomena need to be studied and explored even for some simple and known oscillators when the effects of delays on systems are considered. Based on some existing problems in the studies, some topics for future studies are suggested, for examples, control strategies focused on delayed feedbacks, effects of combining delay with nonlinearities on systems, delay induced multiple bifurcations and complex dynamics in systems, computing models focused on net systems with delayed coupling of state variables and so on. These problems should be addressed since they do not occur in nonlinear systems without delays.

Abstract:Starting from the delay Liénard and van der Pol equations with time delay, this paper represents an attempt to give an introductory presentation of dynamics for a class of nonlinear systems with time delay and emphasizes the recent development on this field in china. It is clearly seen that the time delay occurred in systems can lead to the rich dynamical behaviors such as death island, Hopf bifurcation, double Hopf bifurcation, period-doubling bifurcation, phase locked (periodic) and phase shifting solutions, co-existing motions, quasi-periodic motion and even chaos. In the quantitative and qualitative treatment of the analytical method, a new method, called perturbation-incremental scheme (PIS), is introduced by two steps, namely perturbation and increment for continuation to the critical value at a simple Hopf bifurcation. This paper shows that time delay may be used as a simple but efficient “switch” to control motions of a system: either from order to complex motions or from complex to order motions for different applications. As well as the PIS can bypass and avoid the tedious calculation of the center manifold reduction (CMR) and normal form.

Abstract:Time-delay is unavoidable, encountered in many practical systems such as networked control systems, communication networks, manufacturing, and biology. On the one hand, it often represents a source of instability and oscillation. On the other hand, the appearance of delay can have a stabilizing effect, and delayed feedback control can be used to stabilize some unstable systems. Considering its theoretical and practical importance, increasing attention has been focused on the analysis and synthesis of time-delay systems, and various new approaches have been proposed to reduce their conservatism. The aim of reducing the conservatism of delay-dependent stability criteria is to establish new stability criteria to provide a maximal allowable delay as large as possible. Among different techniques, the reduced conservatism is mainly obtained by constructing an improved Lyapunov functional and employing a tighter bound on some weighted cross products. A great number of effective methods have been provided such as delay-partitioning method, convex combination method, Wirtinger-based inequality, and Bessel–Legendre inequality.

Abstract:This article considers the problem of delay-dependent stability analysis for a class of discrete-time singular systems with Markovian jump and time-varying delay. The transition probabilities in Markov chain are assumed to be partially unknown. In terms of linear matrix inequality approach, the delay-dependent criteria are proposed to ensure the underlying system to be regular, causal and stochastically stable. Several numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness and less conservatism of the obtained results.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of a piecewise-linear second-order delay differential equation that is representative of feedback systems with relays (switches) that actuate after a fixed delay. The system under study exhibits strong multirhythmicity, the coexistence of many stable periodic solutions for the same values of the parameters. We present a detailed study of these periodic solutions and their bifurcations. Starting from an integro-differential model, we show how to reduce the system to a set of finite-dimensional maps. We then demonstrate that the parameter regions of existence of periodic solutions can be understood in terms of discontinuity induced bifurcations and their stability is determined by smooth bifurcations. Using this technique we are able to show that slowly oscillating solutions are always stable if they exist. We also demonstrate the coexistence of stable periodic solutions with quasiperiodic solutions.

Abstract:The local dynamics of systems of two equations with delay is considered. The main assumption is that the delay parameter is large enough. Critical cases in the problem of the stability of the equilibrium state are identified, and it is shown that they are of infinite dimension. Methods of infinite-dimensional normalization are used and further developed. The main result is the construction of special nonlinear boundary value problems that play the role of normal forms. Their nonlocal dynamics determine the behavior of all solutions of the original system in a neighborhood of the equilibrium state.

Abstract:This paper focuses on time-varying delayed stochastic differential systems with stochastically switching parameters formulated by a unified switching behavior combining a discrete adapted process and a Cox process. Unlike prior studies limited to stationary and ergodic switching scenarios, our research emphasizes non-Markovian, non-stationary, and non-ergodic cases. It arrives at more general results regarding stability analysis with a more rigorous methodology. The theoretical results are validated through numerical examples.

Abstract:This paper is mainly concerned with the existence of chaos in a class of controlled partial difference equations via delay controllers. Using the snap-back repeller theory, four criteria of chaos in the sense of both Devaney and Li-Yorke in this system are established when the equation and the controller satisfy several relatively weak conditions. Moreover, two examples with computer simulations of their dynamical behaviors and the trends of the largest Lyapunov exponents with the initial values and parameters are discussed to illustrate the correctness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, stabilization of systems by delayed noisy states is investigated further. Compared with related literature, the time delays in the stabilizing noisy states are no longer restricted to the point and distributed types, which are extended into the general form, including the unbounded ones. To support this novelty, a series of preliminaries on related principles are firstly carried out: 1. the familiar Doob martingale inequality in the continuous version is improved; 2. the equivalence principle, which says that the exponential stability in moment of an anhysteretic stochastic system infers the same property of the corresponding hysteretic system, is extended to the cases with the newly proposed semi-Lipschitz condition and the general time delays; 3. the implication theorem, which indicates that the exponential stability in moment of arbitrary order of a delayed stochastic system implies almost sure exponential stability, is generalized to the stochastic systems with time delays of general forms only under the linear growth condition, to finally confirm the stability of the controlled systems. The possible active contribution of the existing noise in the underlying system is discovered and applied sufficiently. Technically, non-zero property is not needed for the derivations towards to the stability in low order moments, variable substitution is applied to time to map the function spaces for the functional differential equation models with unbounded time delays into those with bounded ones, and the existence of the solutions of the systems is confirmed only under the linear growth condition in general function space. Unified framework for the stability analysis for both bounded and unbounded time delays is built with the mapping for the time and the function space, the decay rates, including those for polynomial stability, for estimates of the solutions of systems with time delays of general form are formulated. A technical mean is proposed to counteract the restriction to the system parameters caused by the equivalence inference. At the end of the paper, typical strategies, including the divided state feedback with unbounded time delays, for the stabilizing noise are presented, a numerical example is proposed to illustrate the method and to show the efficiency of the results of the paper.

Abstract:This paper addresses the dynamic properties of a class of continuous-time switched nonlinear systems with perturbations and delays. With the assumption that the nominal system is exponentially stable, it is shown that the trajectory of the perturbed system exponentially decays to or asymptotically approaches origin provided that the perturbation exponentially decays to or asymptotically approaches origin. These properties are then applied to cascade systems for their stability analysis. It is proven that a delayed switched nonlinear cascade system is exponentially stable if and only if all subsystems obtained from the cascade system by deleting the coupling terms are exponentially stable. A sufficient condition ensuring asymptotic stability of a cascade system is also proposed.

A new delay-dependent stability condition which can deal with arbitrarily time-varying delays is formulated by constituting a Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, the result has less conservatism than those presented before. Abstract:This paper investigates the exponential synchronization problem of nonlinear complex dynamical systems via delayed impulsive distributed control. Different from the existing results on the synchronization of complex dynamical systems, impulsive input delays are considered in our model. Combined with the time-varying Lyapunov functional and mathematical induction approaches, criteria on system synchronization are established, which sufficiently utilize the information of both the state variables of themselves and their neighbors. Moreover, it is shown that the frequency of impulsive occurrence and impulsive input delays can heavily affect the synchronization performance. Finally, two numerical simulations are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the derived theoretical results.
