Abstract:Transition metal oxides have garnered a lot of attention in the field of electrocatalysis along with their unique crystal structure and excellent catalytic properties. In this study, carbon nanofibers (CNFs) decorated with Mn3O4/NiO nanoparticles were made using electrospinning and calcination. The conductive network constructed by CNFs not only facilitates electron transport, but also provides landing sites for nanoparticles, thus reducing nanoparticle aggregation and exposing more active sites. Additionally, the synergistic interaction between Mn3O4 and NiO improved electrocatalytic capacity for glucose oxidation. The Mn3O4/NiO/CNFs modified glassy carbon electrode shows satisfactory results in terms of linear range and anti-interference capability for glucose detection, suggesting that the constructed enzyme-free sensor has a promising application in clinical diagnosis.

Abstract:CuO/Ni(OH)(2)/carbon cloth (CuO/Ni(OH)(2)/CC) was successfully prepared by one-step solvothermal method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS) results confirm the co-existence of CuO and Ni (OH)(2). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images indicate that there is existence of CuO cubes and nanoparticles on Ni(OH)(2) nanosheets. Electrochemical measurements suggest that obtained CuO/Ni(OH)(2)/CC composite electrode exhibits a wider linear range (0.05-8.50 mM), a higher sensitivity (598.6 mu A mM(-1) cm(-2)) and a low detection limit of 0.31 mu M (S/N = 3). Additionally, good selectivity against common interferents, long-time stability and practical applicability for glucose detection demonstrate that the CuO/Ni(OH)(2)/CC is a promising electrode for non-enzymatic glucose sensing.

Abstract:The present paper reports on the facile preparation of novel Ni(II)-based metal-organic coordination polymer nanoparticle/reduced graphene oxide (NiCPNP/rGO) nanocomposites for the first time. The formation of the nanocomposites occurs in a single step, carried out by hydrothermal treatment of the mixture of tannic acid functioned graphene oxide and NiCl(2) aqueous solution in N,N-dimethylformamide. It is found that the NiCPNP/rGO nanocomposite-modified electrode shows high electrocatalytic activity for glucose oxidation in alkaline medium. This nonenzymatic glucose sensor exhibits high selectivity toward glucose and the linear range and limit of detection are estimated to be from 0.01 to 8.75 mM (r: 0.997) and 0.14 μM with a signal-to-noise ratio of 3, respectively. The application of this glucose sensor in human blood serum has also been demonstrated successfully.

Abstract:In this study, a new enzyme-free glucose sensor was constructed using the transition metal-based composite material. The synthesis of ZIF-67 entailed the addition of NiO with high catalytic performance. Two-dimensional NiO/Co3O4@C heterojunctions were obtained via pyrolysis of NiO@ZIF-67 in the air at a temperature of 500 ℃. The enzyme-free glucose sensor Nafion/NiO/Co3O4@C/GCE was constructed by modifying NiO/Co3O4@C on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The performance of the modified electrode was tested via cyclic voltammetry (CV) and a time–current curve (i–t curve). The linear ranges of the modified electrode were 5 –1000 μM and 1.0– 4.0 mM with sensitivities of 690 and 215.4 μA mM−1 cm−2, respectively. The detection limit was 2.28 μΜ (S/N = 3). The recoveries were in the range of 98.9–99.7

Abstract:Nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (N-CNFs) were facilely prepared by carbonizing electrospun polyacrylonitrile@polyaniline core shell nanofibers. The obtained N-CNFs possessed the favorable properties of high nitrogen content, large surface area, hierarchical porosity and good conductivity, which as ideal supports have been decorated by CuO nanoparticles through a facile solvothermal approach. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of the properties of N-CNFs and CuO nanoparticles, the obtained CuO/N CNFs modified on glassed carbon electrodes (CuO/N CNEs/GCE) have demonstrated desirable activity for direct electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose with much higher sensitivity than that of pure CuO nanoparticles and CuO/CNEs composites. This could be ascribed to the fast electron transport/collect within the 3D conductive networks, which was very beneficial to improve the sensitivity to glucose detection for CuO/CNEs modified electrodes. In addition, the CuO/N-CNEs/GCE also presented a low detection limit to glucose, good selectivity to the general interferences in blood as well as high stability with long-term exposed in air. Therefore, the prepared CuO/N-CNFs modified electrodes by the facile synthesis method presents the potential possibility for practical application in non-enzymatic glucose sensor. Abstract:Herein, the Co3O4/NiCo2O4 nanocomposite has been prepared as a novel electrochemical sensor to accurately detect hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and glucose. ZIF-67 is a metal-organic framework (MOF) with Co as the center metal ion. Co3O4 can be obtained by calcination of ZIF-67 at 700 °C, which can retain the structure of ZIF-67. The hollow Co3O4 nanocrystal was synthesized based on a calcination process of ZIF-67. This open structure can promote the whole Co3O4/NiCo2O4 nanocomposite larger accessible surface area and reactive sites. Co3O4 has good electrocatalytic performance, which has been applied in many fields. Moreover, H2O2 and dopamine sensing tests indicate that the as-prepared non-enzymatic electrochemical biosensor has good detection properties. The testing results indicate the as-prepared biosensor has a wide detection range, low detection limit, high selectivity, and long-term stability. These testing results suggest the potential application in food security, biomedicine, environmental detection, and pharmaceutical analysis.
Amperometric Hydrogen Peroxide and Glucose Biosensor Based on Nife2/Ordered Mesoporous Carbon Nanocomposites

Abstract:Nanocomposites of NiFex embedded in ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) (x = 0, 1, 2) were prepared by a wet impregnation and hydrogen reduction process and were used to construct electrochemical biosensors for the amperometric detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) or glucose. The NiFe2/OMC nanocomposites were demonstrated to have a large surface area, suitable mesoporous channels, many edge-plane-like defective sites, and a good distribution of alloyed nanoparticles. The NiFe2/OMC and Nafion modified glass carbon electrode (GCE) exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activities toward the reduction of H2O2 as well. By utilizing it as a bioplatform, GOx (glucose oxidase) cross-linked with Nafion was immobilized on the surface of the electrode for the construction of an amperometric glucose biosensor. Our results indicated that the amperometric hydrogen peroxide biosensor (NiFe2/OMC + Nafion + GCE) showed good analytical performances in term of a high sensitivity of 4.29 μA mM(-1) cm(-2), wide linearity from 6.2 to 42,710 μM and a low detection limit of 0.24 μM at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3 (S/N = 3). This biosensor exhibited excellent selectivity, high stability and negligible interference for the detection of H2O2. In addition, the immobilized enzyme on NiFe2/OMC + Nafion + GCE, retaining its bioactivity, exhibited a reversible two-proton and two-electron transfer reaction, a fast heterogeneous electron transfer rate and an effective Michaelis-Menten constant (K) (3.18 mM). The GOx + NiFe2/OMC + Nafion + GCE could be used to detect glucose based on the oxidation of glucose catalyzed by GOx and exhibited a wide detection range of 48.6-12,500 μM with a high sensitivity of 6.9 μA mM(-1) cm(-2) and a low detection limit of 2.7 μM (S/N = 3). The enzymic biosensor maintained a high selectivity and stability features, and shows great promise for application in the detection of glucose.
A non-enzymatic hydrogen peroxide sensor based on a glassy carbon electrode modified with cuprous oxide and nitrogen-doped graphene in a nafion matrix

Abstract:We have modified a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with copper(I) oxide nanoparticles (NPs), nitrogen-doped graphene (N-graphene) and Nafion to obtain a novel sensing platform for the non-enzymatic detection of hydrogen peroxide. The deposition of the Cu2O NPs on N-graphene was accomplished by single-step chemical reduction. The nanocomposite was characterized by using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy which revealed the successful attachment of monodispersed Cu2O NPs to the N-graphene. Electrochemical studies revealed that the composite possesses excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the reduction of H2O2 in pH 7.4 phosphate buffer solution at a working potential of −0.60 V. Nafion obviously enhances the stability of the modified GCE and repels any negatively charged species. Compared to a conventional Cu2O/Nafion-modified GCE, the modified GCE presented here exhibits (a) a higher catalytic activity for the reduction of H2O2 (1.94 times), (b) a wider linear range (from 5.0 μM to 3.57 mM), (c) a lower detection limit (0.8 μM at an S/N of 3), (d) higher sensitivity (26.67 μA mM−1) and (e) a shorter response time (2 s). Moreover, the new GCE exhibits good selectivity and stability. These properties make the new hybrid electrode a promising tool for to the development of electrochemical sensors, molecular bioelectronic devices, biosensors, and biofuel cells.Figureᅟ

Abstract:In this work, a simple strategy for fabricating a 3D nitrogen doped holey graphene hydrogel decorated with NiCo2O4 nanoflowers (NHGH/NiCo2O4) via a one-pot hydrothermal method with subsequent calcination is reported for the first time. The novel NHGH/NiCo2O4 nanocomposites featured high electrical conductivity, large and accessible surface areas, abundant active sites, and excellent electrocatalytic performance. Considering the excellent catalytic activity of NiCo2O4, a sensitive and bifunctional electrochemical non-enzymatic biosensor was established for the determination of glucose and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The obtained biosensor exhibited wide linear ranges (glucose: 0.005-10.95 mM; H2O2: 1-510 tiM) and a low detection limits (glucose: 0.39 mu M; H2O2: 0.136 mu M) in alkaline solution (S/N = 3). Excellent electrocatalytic activity of this sensor was ascribed to the synergistic effects of the hybrid structure between the NiCo2O4 nanoflowers and NHGH. Furthermore, the sensitive biosensor also exhibited high selectivity and could be applied to determine glucose in real blood samples. Taken together, the results reveal that the proposed hybrid nanocomposite could be a promising electrochemical biosensor.
Copper Nanoparticle/Graphene Oxide/Single Wall Carbon Nanotube Hybrid Materials As Electrochemical Sensing Platform for Nonenzymatic Glucose Detection

Abstract:Cu nanoparticle/graphene oxide/single walled carbon nanotube (CuNP/GO/SWCNT) composites were prepared by a facile electrodeposition method and used for constructing nonenzymatic glucose sensor. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy were employed to characterize the morphology and structures of the samples. The electrocatalytic performance of CuNP/GO/SWCNT composites towards glucose oxidation was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and current–time measurements. Electrochemical results indicated that CuNP/GO/SWCNT electrode exhibited a higher electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of glucose than CuNP, CuNP/GO and CuNP/SWCNT electrodes. This was because the GO/SWCNT composite as substrate material not only possessed excellent conductivity, but also provided large surface area for the high loading of the CuNPs. Meanwhile, the good dispersibility, independent and multi-layer structure of CuNP, could enhance the charge-transport properties, and afford more active sites for the catalytic oxidation of glucose. Under the optimized conditions, the sensor showed a high sensitivity of up to 930.07μAmM−1cm−2, with a wide linear range of 1μM to 4.538mM and a low detection limit of 0.34μM (S/N=3). It also exhibited excellent stability, reproducibility, selectivity, and reliable measurement in real human blood samples. All of these excellent properties made the CuNP/GO/SWCNT composite material promising for the development of effective nonenzymatic glucose sensors.
Nickel‐Foam‐Supported Co3O4 Nanosheets/PPy Nanowire Heterostructure for Non‐enzymatic Glucose Sensing

Abstract:Cobalt oxide nanosheets (Co3O4 NSs)/polypyrrole nanowire (PPy NW) core-shell nano-heterostructures based on nickel foam (NF) were fabricated for electrochemical non-enzymatic glucose determination. The Co3O4/PPy nanostructures grew directly on nickel foam substrate by electrochemical deposition processes. The PPy NW core and the Co3O4 NS shell constructed the hierarchical nanocomposites to form a three dimensional micro-nanostructure in the micropores of NF. The as-prepared Co3O4/PPy/NF heterostructures were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The introduction of the Co3O4 NSs can provide a high surface area and lead to high sensitivity to glucose. Chronoamperometry was used to evaluate the sensitivity of the sensor toward glucose. Compared with NF, PPy/NF, and Co(OH)(2)/PPy/NF electrodes, the Co3O4/PPy/NF electrode exhibited higher electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of glucose, and the proposed glucose sensor showed linear electrochemical responses to glucose with a low detection limit of 0.74 mu M (S/N = 3). In addition, the prepared biosensor revealed good selectivity in the presence of electro-active species such as D-fructose, uric acid, ascorbic acid and hydrogen peroxide, and provided an excellent platform for the determination of glucose in human urine samples.
In Situ Formation of Co3O4 Hollow Nanocubes on Carbon Cloth-Supported NiCo2O4 Nanowires and Their Enhanced Performance in Non-Enzymatic Glucose Sensing.

Abstract:Diabetes is a chronic disease that can seriously affect human health. Therefore it is important to develop a rapid and highly sensitive enzyme-free glucose sensor to aid the treatment of diabetes. In this work, homogeneous NiCo2O4 nanowire arrays were synthesized in an orderly fashion on flexible carbon cloth (CC) by a facile hydrothermal method. Then well-structured zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) nanocubes were grown in situ on the as-prepared NiCo2O4 nanowires to form a hybrid nanoarchitecture. The hierarchical structure was transformed into a Co3O4/NiCo2O4/CC composite after annealing in the air. The as-prepared electrode was put into 0.1 M NaOH, and cyclic voltammetry and amperometry were employed to investigate its electrocatalytic properties at room temperature. It was found that the Co3O4/NiCo2O4/CC electrode exhibited outstanding sensing properties towards glucose, including terrific sensitivity (12.835 mA mM−1 cm−2), a wide linear range (from 1 μM to 1.127 mM), a low detection limit (0.64 μM) and a fast response time (within 2 s). In addition, it also had excellent selectivity, reproducibility and stability. The improvement in enzyme-free glucose sensing, in addition to the high porosity and large specific surface area of metal organic framework-derived Co3O4 hollow nanocubes, can be attributed to the NiCo2O4 nanowire arrays affording fast channels for electron transfer between CC and Co3O4. Accordingly, this method, which directly prepares hierarchical composite nanomaterials on a conductive substrate, may open up a new perspective for the enhancement of non-enzymatic glucose-sensing properties.
Promoting Non-Enzymatic Electrochemical Sensing Performance Toward Glucose by the Integration of Conducting Polypyrrole with Metal-Organic Framework

Abstract:In this work, we have developed a facile strategy to prepare two-dimensional (2D) Co-Ni(Fe)-MOF nanosheets integrated with conducting polypyrrole (PPy) for the non-enzymatic electrochemical glucose sensing. Owing to the synergistic effect with abundant active sites and excellent electron transfer property, the Co-Ni(Fe)-MOF/PPy composite nanosheets modified electrode realizes a low detection limit of 1.13 mu M (S/N = 3) and a high sensitivity of 1805 mu A mM(-1) cm(-2) to detect glucose. The fabricated glucose sensor also presents a satisfactory reproducibility, repeatability, selectivity and stability. Furthermore, the established sensing platform can be used for the quality detection of glucose in real samples. The idea developed in this work provides a great chance to produce a broad range of promising MOF/conducting polymer composites for the promoted electrochemical biosensing performance.

Abstract:A novel electrochemical sensor for the detection of glucose was constructed based on the use of Co3O4/PbO2 core-shell nanorod arrays as electrocatalysts. In this paper the Co3O4/PbO2 core-shell nanorod arrays grow directly on a flexible carbon cloth substrate by the combination of hydrothermal synthesis and electrochemical deposition methods. The as-prepared hierarchical nanocomposites show the structural characteristics of nanowire core and nanoparticle shell. The carbon cloth-supported Co3O4/PbO2 nanorod array electrode exhibits higher sensitivity (460.3μAmM−1cm−2 in the range from 5μM to 1.2mM) and lower detection limit (0.31μM (S/N=3)) than the carbon cloth-supported Co3O4 nanowire array electrode. Both the three-dimensional network of carbon cloth substrate and the hierarchical nanostructure of binary Co3O4/PbO2 composites make such an electrode have high electrocatalytic activity towards the glucose oxidation. Due to the excellent sensitivity, repeatability and anti-interference ability, the carbon cloth-supported Co3O4/PbO2 nanorod arrays will be the promising materials for fabricating practical non-enzymatic glucose sensors.

Abstract:The design of hierarchical heterogeneous structures with rational components is considered as a promising method to enhance the properties of electrocatalyst. Binary metal oxides, with high electrochemical activity, have attracted considerable interest in glucose determination. In this work, we synthesized the CuCo2O4@NiCo2O4 hybrid structure on conductive carbon cloth (CC) via a simple two-step hydrothermal process and investigated its catalytic ability toward glucose. The two individual components that make up this hybrid electrode have good electrical conductivity and excellent catalytic properties for glucose, so the smart combination of these two active materials can provide more catalytic sites and sufficient redox couples for the glucose oxidation. As a result, the CuCo2O4@NiCo2O4 modified CC presented superior glucose sensing properties, including ultrahigh sensitivity, fast response time, wide linear range and acceptable detection limit. Besides, the sample also exhibited good selectivity for substances in human blood that interfere with glucose detection, such as UA, AA, fructose, sucrose and KCl. The potential of the CuCo2O4@NiCo2O4/CC electrode for practical application was investigated by measuring the glucose concentration in real serum samples. These results prove that the construction of hierarchical ordered structure is conducive to the improvement of glucose sensor.
Co-MOF Nanosheet Array: A High-Performance Electrochemical Sensor for Non-Enzymatic Glucose Detection

Abstract:It is important to construct and develop non-noble-metal nanoarray architecture for sensitive and selective detection of glucose. In this paper, we testify the hydrothermal synthesis of Co-MOF nanosheet array on nickel foam from aqueous Co2+ and terephthalic acid. The resulting Co-MOF array on Ni foam (Co-MOF/NF) exhibits strong activity for glucose oxidation electrocatalysis in alkaline media. As a promising enzymatic-free sensing, the speedy amperometric response of < 5s, high sensitivity of 10,886 mu A mM(-1) cm(-2) and low detection limit of 1.3 nM (signal/noise = 3) are obtained in the Co-MOF/NF. Our study shows that the material possesses longtime stability and great reproducibility and may be used for the glucose detection in human blood serum and fruit juice.

Abstract:Among reported electrode materials, a nanoarray is an attractive architecture for molecular detection because of its large specific surface area and easy accessibility for target molecules. Here, a new Fe N-Co N nanowires array grown on carbon cloth (Fe N-Co N/CC) is reported as a non-noble-metal bifunctional catalyst electrode for high-performance glucose oxidation and H O reduction. As an electrochemical non-enzymatic sensor for glucose detection, Fe N-Co N/CC shows a fast response time of 8 s, a low detection limit (LOD) of 77 nm (signal/noise=3), and a high sensitivity of 4333.7 μA mm cm . As an H O sensor, it shows a LOD of 59 nm (signal/noise=3) and a sensitivity of 2273.8 μA mm cm with a response time of 2 s. In addition, the proposed sensor is stable with high selectivity, specificity, and reproducibility, and its application for real sample analysis has been successfully demonstrated.

Abstract:Herein, the Co3O4/NiCo2O4 nanocomposite has been prepared as a novel electrochemical sensor to accurately detect hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and glucose. ZIF-67 is a metal-organic framework (MOF) with Co as the center metal ion. Co3O4 can be obtained by calcination of ZIF-67 at 700 °C, which can retain the structure of ZIF-67. The hollow Co3O4 nanocrystal was synthesized based on a calcination process of ZIF-67. This open structure can promote the whole Co3O4/NiCo2O4 nanocomposite larger accessible surface area and reactive sites. Co3O4 has good electrocatalytic performance, which has been applied in many fields. Moreover, H2O2 and dopamine sensing tests indicate that the as-prepared non-enzymatic electrochemical biosensor has good detection properties. The testing results indicate the as-prepared biosensor has a wide detection range, low detection limit, high selectivity, and long-term stability. These testing results suggest the potential application in food security, biomedicine, environmental detection, and pharmaceutical analysis.
Preparation of Nickel Nanoparticle/Graphene Composites for Non-Enzymatic Electrochemical Glucose Biosensor Applications

Abstract:A novel non-enzymatic electrochemical sensor device was fabricated for glucose detection based on nickel nanoparticles/graphene nanosheets (NiNPs/GNs) composites, which were synthesized through in situ chemical reduction procedure. The NiNPs/GNs composites modified electrode exhibited high electrocatalytic activity and good response toward the oxidation of glucose in alkaline solution, attributing to the synergistic effect of GNs and NiNPs. At detection potential of +0.5 V, the biosensor exhibited high sensitivity of 865 mu A mM(-1) cm(-2) for glucose with a wide linear range from 5 mu M to 550 mu M as well as a low detection limit of 1.85 mu M (at a signal-to-noise ratio(S/N) of 3). The good analytical performance, low cost and simple fabrication procedure make this novel electrode material promising for the development of effective non-enzymatic glucose sensor. Abstract:This work presents development of an innovative CuO/nitrogen-doped carbon composite (CuO-C) that may be effectively applied for the modification of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) and creation of a non-enzymatic sensor for glucose detection. The structure of the CuO-C nanostructured material was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and atomic absorption spectroscopy. The prepared electroactive material, based on CuO including carbon structures derived from chitosan, showed excellent performance in terms of electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose. Under optimal conditions, the modified electrode displays high sensitivity (1546 mu A mM(-1) cm(-2)), a low detection limit (1.95 mu M) and short response time (4 s).
