Abstract:Based on the characterization of surjective L^p-isometries of unitary groups in finite factors, we describe all surjective L^p-isometries between Grassmann spaces of projections with the same trace value in semifinite factors.

Abstract:We investigate projective properties of Lorentzian surfaces. In particular, we prove that if T is a non flat torus, then the index of its isometry group in its projective group is at most two. We also prove that any topologically finite noncompact surface can be endowed with a metric having a non isometric projective transformation of infinite order.

Abstract:We study the closure of the graph of the birational map from a projective space to a Grassmannian. We provide explicit description of the graph closure and compute the fibers of the natural projection to the Grassmannian. We construct embeddings of the graph closure to the projectivizations of certain cyclic representations of a degenerate special linear Lie algebra and study algebraic and combinatorial properties of these representations. In particular, we describe monomial bases, generalizing the FFLV bases. The proof relies on combinatorial properties of a new family of poset polytopes, which are of independent interest. As a consequence we obtain flat toric degenerations of the graph closure studied by Borovik, Sturmfels and Sverrisdóttir.

Abstract:We describe basic diffeological structures related to splittings and Grassmannians for infinite dimensional vector spaces. We analyze and expand the notion of non-commutative cross-ratio and prove its smoothness. Then we illustrate this theory by examples, with some of them extracted from the existing literature related to infinite dimensional (Banach) Grassmannians, and others where the diffeological setting is a key primary step for rigorous definitions.

Geometric Structures on the Complement of a Projective Arrangement

Abstract:Consider a complex projective space with its Fubini-Study metric. We study certain one parameter deformations of this metric on the complement of an arrangement (= finite union of hyperplanes) whose Levi-Civita connection is of Dunkl type. Interesting examples are obtained from the arrangements defined by finite complex reflection groups. We determine a parameter interval for which the metric is locally of Fubini-Study type, flat, or complex-hyperbolic. We find a finite subset of this interval for which we get a complete orbifold or at least a Zariski open subset thereof, and we analyze these cases in some detail (e.g., we determine their orbifold fundamental group). In this set-up, the principal results of Deligne-Mostow on the Lauricella hypergeometric differential equation and work of Barthel-Hirzebruch-Höfer on arrangements in a projective plane appear as special cases. Along the way we produce in a geometric manner all the pairs of complex reflection groups with isomorphic discriminants, thus providing a uniform approach to work of Orlik-Solomon.
The $L_p$-dual space of a semisimple Lie group

Abstract:Let $G$ be a semisimple Lie group. We describe the irreducible representations of $G$ by linear isometries on $L_p$-spaces for $p\in (1,+\infty)$ with $p\neq 2.$ More precisely, we show that, for every such representation $\pi,$ there exists a parabolic subgroup $Q$ of $G$ such that $\pi$ is equivalent to the natural representation of $G$ on $L_p(G/Q)$ twisted by a unitary character of $Q.$ When $G$ is of real rank one, we give a complete classification of the possible irreducible representations of $G$ on an $L_p$-space for $p\neq 2,$ up to equivalence.

Abstract:We introduce a theory of non-commutative $L^{p}$ spaces suitable for non-commutative probability in a non-tracial setting and use it to develop stochastic analysis of Grassmann-valued processes, including martingale inequalities, stochastic integrals with respect to Grassmann Itô processes, Girsanov's formula and a weak formulation of Grassmann SDEs. We apply this new setting to the construction of several unbounded random variables including a Grassmann analog of the $\Phi^{4}_{2}$ Euclidean QFT in a bounded region and weak solution to singular SPDEs in the spirit of the early work of Jona-Lasinio and Mitter on the stochastic quantisation of $\Phi^{4}_{2}$.

Lorentzian homogeneous structures with indecomposable holonomy

Abstract:For a Lorentzian homogeneous space, we study how algebraic conditions on the isotropy group affect the geometry and curvature of the homogeneous space. More specifically, we prove that a Lorentzian locally homogeneous space is locally isometric to a plane wave if it admits an Ambrose--Singer connection with indecomposable, non-irreducible holonomy. This generalises several existing results that require a certain algebraic type of the torsion of the Ambrose--Singer connection and moreover is in analogy to the fact that a Lorentzian homogeneous space with irreducible isotropy has constant sectional curvature.

Abstract:We show that a discrete group $\Gamma$ which admits a non-elementary isometric action on a Hadamard manifold of bounded negative curvature admits an isometric action on an $L^p$-space $V$ for some $p>1$ with $H^1(\Gamma,V)\not=0$.

Abstract:Let $Gr$ be a component of the Grassmann manifold of a $C^*$-algebra, presented as the unitary orbit of a given orthogonal projection $Gr=Gr(P)$. There are several natural connections in this manifold, and we first show that they all agree (in the presence of a finite trace in $\mathcal A$, when we give $Gr$ the Riemannian metric induced by the Killing form, this is the Levi-Civita connection of the metric). We study the cut locus of $P\in Gr$ for the spectral rectifiable distance, and also the conjugate tangent locus of $P\in Gr$ along a geodesic. Furthermore, for each tangent vector $V$ at $P$, we compute the kernel of the differential of the exponential map of the connection. We exhibit examples where points that are tangent conjugate in the classical setting, fail to be conjugate: in some cases they are not monoconjugate but epinconjugate, and in other cases they are not conjugate at all.

Abstract:Any complex-analytic vector bundle E admits naturally defined homotheties ϕ α , α ∈ C ⁎ , i.e. ϕ α is the multiplication of a local section by a complex number α. We investigate the question when such automorphisms can be lifted to a non-split supermanifold corresponding to E . Further, we compute the automorphism supergroup of a Π-symmetric super-Grassmannian Π Gr n , k , and, using Galois cohomology, we classify the real structures on Π Gr n , k and compute the corresponding supermanifolds of real points.

Geometry of bi-Lagrangian Grassmannian

Abstract:This paper explores the structure of bi-Lagrangian Grassmanians for pencils of $2$-forms on real or complex vector spaces. We reduce the analysis to the pencils whose Jordan-Kronecker Canonical Form consists of Jordan blocks with the same eigenvalue. We demonstrate that this is equivalent to studying Lagrangian subspaces invariant under a nilpotent self-adjoint operator. We calculate the dimension of bi-Lagrangian Grassmanians and describe their open orbit under the automorphism group. We completely describe the automorphism orbits in the following three cases: for one Jordan block, for sums of equal Jordan blocks and for a sum of two distinct Jordan blocks.

Abstract:We describe surjective linear isometries and linear isometry groups of a large class of Lipschitz-free spaces that includes e.g. Lipschitz-free spaces over any graph. We define the notion of a Lipschitz-free rigid metric space whose Lipschitz-free space only admits surjective linear isometries coming from surjective dilations (i.e. rescaled isometries) of the metric space itself. We show this class of metric spaces is surprisingly rich and contains all $3$-connected graphs as well as geometric examples such as non-abelian Carnot groups with horizontally strictly convex norms. We prove that every metric space isometrically embeds into a Lipschitz-free rigid space that has only three more points.

Abstract:In this work we use the method of eigenfamilies to construct explicit complex-valued proper $p$-harmonic functions on the compact real Grassmannians. We also find proper $p$-harmonic functions on the real flag manifolds which do not descend onto any of the real Grassmannians.

Abstract:The secant varieties to flag varieties $G/P$ are central objects in Tensor Decomposition. The natural group action they inherit allows one to reduce the study of local geometric properties to $G$--orbit representatives. The case of secant varieties of lines is particularly elegant as their $G$--orbits are induced by $P$--orbits in both $G/P$ and $\mathfrak{g}/\mathfrak{p}$. Parabolic orbits are a classical problem in Representation Theory, well understood for generalised Grassmannians. Exploiting such orbits, we provide a complete and uniform description of both the identifiable and singular loci of the secant variety of lines to any cominuscule variety, as well as of the second Terracini locus. We also show that non-cominuscule varieties behave differently.

Abstract:The fixed-point spectrum of a locally compact second countable group G on lp is defined to be the set of real numbers p such that every action by affine isometries of G on lp admits a fixed-point. We show that this set is either empty, or is equal to a set of one of the following forms : [1,\pc[, [1,\pc[\{2} for some \pc<\infty or \pc=\infty, or [1,\pc], [1,\pc]\{2} for some pc<infty. This answers a question closely related to a conjecture of C. Drutu which asserts that the fixed-point spectrum is connected for isometric actions on Lp(0,1). We also study the topological properties of the fixed-point spectrum on Lp(X,\mu) for general measure spaces (X,\mu), and show partial results toward the conjecture for actions on Lp(0,1). In particular, we prove that the spectrum F_{L^{\infty}(X,\mu)(G,\pi) of actions with linear part \pi is either empty, or an interval of the form [1,\pc] or [1,\infty[, whenever \pi is an orthogonal representation associated to a measure-preserving ergodic action on a finite measure space (X,\mu).

Abstract:We describe the surjective isometries of the unit sphere of real Schreier spaces of all orders and their $p$-convexifications, for $1 < p < \infty$. This description allows us to provide for those spaces a positive answer to a special case of Tingley's problem, which asks whether every surjective isometry of the unit sphere of a real Banach space can be extended to a linear isometry of the entire space.
