Abstract:In this paper, we introduced the concept of $ C $-star bodies in a fixed pointed closed convex cone $ C $ and studied the dual mixed volume for $ C $-star bodies. For $ C $-star bodies, we established the corresponding dual Brunn-Minkowski inequality, dual Minkowski inequality, and dual Aleksandrov-Fenchel inequality. Moveover, we found that the dual Brunn-Minkowski inequality for $ C $-star bodies can strengthen the Brunn-Minkowski inequality for $ C $-coconvex sets.

Abstract:In this paper, we resolve the planar dual Minkowski problem, proposed by Huang et al. (2016) [31] for all positive indices without any symmetry assumption. More precisely, given any q>0, and function f on S1, bounded by two positive constants, we show that there exists a convex body Ω in the plane, containing the origin in its interior, whose dual curvature measure C˜q(Ω,⋅) has density f. In particular, if f is smooth, then ∂Ω is also smooth.

Abstract:The general volume of a star body, a notion that includes the usual volume, the qth dual volumes, and many previous types of dual mixed volumes, is introduced. A corresponding new general dual Orlicz curvature measure is defined that specializes to the (p, q)-dual curvature measure introduced recently by Lutwak, Yang, and Zhang. General variational formulas are established for the general volume of two types of Orlicz linear combination. Abstract:In this paper, we first introduce a new concept of {\it dual quermassintegral sum function} of two star bodies and establish Minkowski's type inequality for dual quermassintegral sum of mixed intersection bodies, which is a general form of the Minkowski inequality for mixed intersection bodies. Then, we give the Aleksandrov--Fenchel inequality and the Brunn--Minkowski inequality for mixed intersection bodies and some related results. Our results present, for intersection bodies, all dual inequalities for Lutwak's mixed prosection bodies inequalities.

Abstract:Let $C$ be a closed convex cone in ${\mathbb R}^n$, pointed and with interior points. We consider sets of the form $A=C\setminus A^\bullet$, where $A^\bullet\subset C$ is a closed convex set. If $A$ has finite volume (Lebesgue measure), then $A$ is called a $C$-coconvex set. The family of $C$-coconvex sets is closed under the addition $\oplus$ defined by $C\setminus(A_1\oplus A_2)= (C\setminus A_1)+(C\setminus A_2)$. We develop first steps of a Brunn--Minkowski theory for $C$-coconvex sets, which relates this addition to the notion of volume. In particular, we establish the equality conditions for a Brunn--Minkowski type inequality (with reversed inequality sign), introduce mixed volumes and their integral representations, and prove a Minkowski-type uniqueness theorem for $C$-coconvex sets with equal surface area measures.

Abstract:In this note, we study Bézout type inequalities for mixed volumes and Minkowski sums of convex bodies in . We first give a new proof and we extend inequalities of Jian Xiao on mixed discriminants. Then, we use the mass transport method to deduce some Bézout type inequalities for mixed volumes. Finally, we apply these inequalities to obtain Bézout type inequalities for Minkowski sums.

Abstract:We define and study the dual mixed volume rational function of a sequence of polytopes, a dual version of the mixed volume polynomial. This concept has direct relations to the adjoint polynomials and the canonical forms of polytopes. We show that dual mixed volume is additive under mixed subdivisions, and is related by a change of variables to the dual volume of the Cayley polytope. We study dual mixed volume of zonotopes, generalized permutohedra, and associahedra. The latter reproduces the planar $\phi^3$-scalar amplitude at tree level.

Abstract:Recently, Gardner, Hug and Weil have introduced the Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory: a general framework, additions, and inequalities. Following this, in the paper we consider Orlicz dual Brunn-Minkowski theory. We introduce Orlicz hormonic Blaschke addition which is an extension of the Lp hormonic Blaschke addition and L p radial Minkowski addition, respectively. Inequalities of dual Minkowski and Brunn-Minkowski type are obtained for the Orlicz hormonic Blaschke addition. The new Orlicz dual Brunn-Minkowski inequality implies the dual and L p -dual Brunn-Minkowski inequalities, respectively. New Orlicz dual Minkowski inequality implies the L p -dual Minkowski inequality. One of these has connections with the conjectured log-Brunn-Minkowski inequality of Lutwak, Yang, and Zhang, and in fact we show a log dual Minkowski inequality. Finally, we introduce the concept of Orlicz dual projection body and an inequality similar to Orlicz projection body is established.

Abstract:For convex bodies K in $\mathbb {R}^n$ containing the origin in their interiors, the general dual volume and the general dual Orlicz curvature measure $\widetilde{C}_{G, \psi }(K, \cdot )$ were recently introduced for certain classes of functions G and $\psi $. We extend these concepts to more general functions G and to compact convex sets K containing the origin (but not necessarily in their interiors). Some basic properties of the general dual volume and of the dual Orlicz curvature measure are provided which are required to study a Minkowski-type problem for the dual Orlicz curvature measure. The Minkowski problem asks to characterize Borel measures $\mu $ on the unit sphere for which there is a convex body K in $\mathbb {R}^n$ containing the origin such that $\mu $ equals $\widetilde{C}_{G, \psi }(K, \cdot )$, up to a constant. A major step in the analysis concerns discrete measures $\mu $, for which we prove the existence of convex polytopes containing the origin in their interiors solving the Minkowski problem. Under mild conditions on G and $\psi $, solutions are obtained for general measures by an approximation argument. Our results generalize several previous works and provide more precise information about the solutions of the Minkowski problem when $\mu $ is discrete or even.

Abstract:The Brunn-Minkowski Theorem asserts that $\mu_d(A+B)^{1/d}\geq \mu_d(A)^{1/d}+\mu_d(B)^{1/d}$ for convex bodies $A,\,B\subseteq \R^d$, where $\mu_d$ denotes the $d$-dimensional Lebesgue measure. It is well-known that equality holds if and only if $A$ and $B$ are homothetic, but few characterizations of equality in other related bounds are known. Let $H$ be a hyperplane. Bonnesen later strengthened this bound by showing $$\mu_d(A+B)\geq (M^{1/(d-1)}+N^{1/(d-1)})^{d-1}(\frac{\mu_d(A)}{M}+\frac{\mu_d(B)}{N}),$$ where $M=\sup\{\mu_{d-1}((\mathbf x+H)\cap A)\mid \mathbf x\in \R^d\}$ and $N=\sup\{\mu_{d-1}((\mathbf y+H)\cap B)\mid \mathbf y\in \R^d\}$. Standard compression arguments show that the above bound also holds when $M=\mu_{d-1}(\pi(A))$ and $N=\mu_{d-1}(\pi(B))$, where $\pi$ denotes a projection of $\mathbb R^d$ onto $H$, which gives an alternative generalization of the Brunn-Minkowski bound. In this paper, we characterize the cases of equality in this later bound, showing that equality holds if and only if $A$ and $B$ are obtained from a pair of homothetic convex bodies by `stretching' along the direction of the projection, which is made formal in the paper. When $d=2$, we characterize the case of equality in the former bound as well.

Weighted Brunn-Minkowski Theory II: Inequalities for Mixed Measures and Applications

Abstract:In "Weighted Brunn-Minkowski Theory I", the prequel to this work, we discussed how recent developments on concavity of measures have laid the foundations of a nascent weighted Brunn-Minkowski theory. In particular, we defined the mixed measures of three convex bodies and obtained its integral representation. In this work, we obtain inequalities for mixed measures, such as a generalization of Fenchel's inequality; this provides a new, simpler proof of the classical volume case. Moreover, we show that mixed measures are connected to the study of log-submodularity and supermodularity of the measure of Minkowski sums of convex bodies. This elaborates on the recent investigations of these properties for the Lebesgue measure. We conclude by establishing that the only Radon measures that are supermodular over the class of compact, convex sets are multiples of the Lebesgue measure. Motivated by this result, we then discuss weaker forms of supermodularity by restricting the class of convex sets.

Abstract:General results on convex bodies are reviewed and used to derive an exact closed-form parametric formula for the Minkowski sum boundary of $m$ arbitrary ellipsoids in $N$-dimensional Euclidean space. Expressions for the principal curvatures of these Minkowski sums are also derived. These results are then used to obtain upper and lower volume bounds for the Minkowski sum of ellipsoids in terms of their defining matrices; the lower bounds are sharper than the Brunn-Minkowski inequality. A reverse isometric inequality for convex bodies is also given.

Abstract:In a seminal paper "Volumen und Oberfläche" (1903), Minkowski introduced the basic notion of mixed volumes and the corresponding inequalities that lie at the heart of convex geometry. The fundamental importance of characterizing the extremals of these inequalities was already emphasized by Minkowski himself, but has to date only been resolved in special cases. In this paper, we completely settle the extremals of Minkowski's quadratic inequality, confirming a conjecture of R. Schneider. Our proof is based on the representation of mixed volumes of arbitrary convex bodies as Dirichlet forms associated to certain highly degenerate elliptic operators. A key ingredient of the proof is a quantitative rigidity property associated to these operators.

Abstract:The Brunn-Minkowski theory is the heart of quantitative convexity. It had its origins in Minkowski's joining his notion of mixed volumes with the Brunn-Minkowski inequality. Abstract:Given two non-empty subsets A and B of the hyperbolic plane H 2 , we define their horocyclic Minkowski sum with parameter λ = 1 / 2 as the set [ A : B ] 1 / 2 ⊆ H 2 of all midpoints of horocycle curves connecting a point in A with a point in B. These horocycle curves are parameterized by hyperbolic arclength. The horocyclic Minkowski sum with parameter 0 < λ < 1 is defined analogously. We prove that when A and B are Borel-measurable, A r e a ( [ A : B ] λ ) ≥ ( 1 − λ ) ⋅ A r e a ( A ) + λ ⋅ A r e a ( B ) , where A r e a stands for hyperbolic area, with equality when A and B are concentric discs in the hyperbolic plane. We also give horocyclic versions of the Prékopa-Leindler and Borell-Brascamp-Lieb inequalities. These inequalities slightly deviate from the metric measure space paradigm on curvature and Brunn-Minkowski type inequalities, where the structure of a metric space is imposed on the manifold, and the relevant curves are necessarily geodesics parameterized by arclength.

Abstract:The mixed area of a Reuleaux polygon and its symmetric with respect to the origin is expressed in terms of the mixed area of two explicit polygons. This gives a geometric explanation of a classical proof due to Chakerian. Mixed areas and volumes are also used to reformulate the minimization of the volume under constant width constraint as isoperimetric problems. In the two dimensional case, the equivalent formulation is solved, providing another proof of the Blaschke–Lebesgue theorem. In the three dimensional case the proposed relaxed formulation involves the mean width, the area and inclusion constraints.

Abstract:Our main aim is to generalize the classical mixed volume V ( K 1 , ... , K n ) and Aleksandrov-Fenchel inequality to the Orlicz space. In the framework of Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory, we introduce a new affine geometric quantity by calculating the Orlicz first-order variation of the mixed volume and call it Orlicz multiple mixed volume of convex bodies K 1 , ... , K n , and L n , denoted by V φ ( K 1 , ... , K n , L n ) , which involves ( n + 1 ) convex bodies in R n . The fundamental notions and conclusions of the mixed volume and Aleksandrov-Fenchel inequality are extended to an Orlicz setting. The related concepts and inequalities of L p -multiple mixed volume V p ( K 1 , ... , K n , L n ) are also derived. The Orlicz-Aleksandrov-Fenchel inequality in special cases yields L p -Aleksandrov-Fenchel inequality, Orlicz-Minkowski inequality, and Orlicz isoperimetric type inequalities. As application, a new Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski inequality for Orlicz harmonic addition is established, which implies Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski inequalities for the volumes and quermassintegrals.
