Abstract:Recently, attention has been focused on spatial query language which is used to query spatial databases. A design of spatial query language has been presented in this paper by extending the standard relational database query language SQL. It recognizes the significantly different requirements of spatial data handling and overcomes the inherent problems of the application of conventional database query languages. This design is based on an extended spatial data model, including the spatial data types and the spatial operators on them. The processing and optimization of spatial queries have also been discussed in this design. In the end, an implementation of this design is given in a spatial query subsystem.

Abstract:As the middle layer of three-tiered structure of spatial data engine-ArcSDE,ArcSDE service is responsible for data interaction between client and server.Properties of ArcSDE service were introduced.The working procedure of giomgr and gsrvr processes were analyzed and theworkingprinciple of ArcSDE servicewas expounded.Utilizing ArcSDE service,interaction between GIS data in Oracle and ArcGIS platform wasrealized.The applicationof ArcSDE service resolved bottleneck of data provided and dataaccess modelbetween GIS application and DBMS.

Abstract:Recent years, the scale of spatial data is developing more and more huge and its storage has encountered a lot of problems. Traditional DBMS can efficiently handle some big spatial data. However, popular open source relational database systems are overwhelmed by the high insertion rates, querying requirements and terabytes of data that these systems can handle. On the other hand, key-value storage can effectively support large scale operations. To resolve the problems of big vector spatial data's storage and query, we bring forward HBase Spatial, a scalable spatial dada storage based on HBase. At first, we analyze the distributed storage model of HBase. Then, we design a distributed storage and index model. Finally, the advantages of our storage model and index algorithm are proven by experiments with both big sample sets and typical benchmarks on cluster compared with MongoDB and Mysql, which shows that our model can effectively enhance the query speed of big spatial data and provide a good solution for storage.

Abstract:This paper discusses how to manage the distributed multi-source isomeric database and share the information of different sources, and solves the distributed storage and retrieve of spatial data which is internet-based. By network connecting, it is realized how to manage the independent spatial database in network-wide and convert conventional c/s computing model into distributed computing model, so the problems of geo-information sharing and interoperable geo-data are successfully solved. As put forward and designed in this paper, the J2EE-based Distributed Spatial Database Management System (JDSDMS) is data-centered, and builds on the newest technology such as distributed database, WWW network and Web GIS. It is absolutely transparent of the local distributed module management, and can update the databases between different platforms through the transaction manager and distinguish various data source. The requirement of manage the distributed, multiple and isomeric city data is completed met.

Abstract:t is currently one of the research focuses in the fields of database and GIS for Spatial graphical data to storage in RDBMS. A data model of spatial graphical data storage in RDBMS is presented in this paper. The paper analyses the data organization and operation, the expression of spatial graphical features and system structure in the data model. According to the given data structure model, we realize the operation of storage, topologic arithmetic and topologic analysis for spatial graphical data in RDBMS based on SQL Server. Finally, an application example in land registration system is given by using the data model to implement compact spatial database engine based on SQL Server 7.0.

Abstract:Raster spatial database engine(RasSDE) is a key technique to achieve distributed query and efficient management of massive rater data. An object-oriented raster spatial data organizing model is proposed. A distributed four-tired architecture of RasSDE is designed. Database services,application interface and appli-cation services are analyzed. Core component framework and its object classes of RasSDE are discussed. MAMS V2.0 system based on RasSDE is given. The main aims of the system are to realize the object-oriented raster spatial data organization,integrative massive spatial data management and distributed spatial data computing. The comparison experiments of disk read-write and network transmission synthesized capabilities between RasSDE and ArcSDE are performed. The results show that raster data network transmission efficiency of RasSDE is higher than that of ArcSDE,and RasSDE can satisfy the demand of massive raster spatial data transfers.
A New Limitation of Oracle Spatial for Spatial Data Management and Its Solution

Abstract:By an application of analyzing for spatial data overlay, a bug was discovered in Oracle Spatial and confirmed by Oracle Corporation. The bug ID is 3146244. In allusion to the disadvantage of Oracle Spatial in processing massive spatial data, an algorithm of “Coordinate-consolidation Overlay” was presented. The appropriate threshold value was selected according to analysis of spatial data overlay. An extended module was developed based on this algorithm in Oracle Spatial. The correctness and validity of the solution were testified by using the spatial data in which bug happened for Oracle Spatial. In the end, an application example in overlay analyses of nationwide municipality-county map and land-use map at scale 1∶4000 000 was given by using the extended module of Oracle Spatial.

Abstract:A practical spatio-temporal database (STDB) technique for dynamic urban land management is presented. One of the STDB models, the expanded model of Base State with Amendments (BSA), is selected as the basis for developing the dynamic cadastral management technique. Two approaches, the Section Fast Indexing (SFI) and the Storage Factors of Variable Granularity (SFVG), are used to improve the efficiency of the BSA model. Both spatial graphic data and attribute data, through a succinct engine, are stored in standard relational database management systems (RDBMS) for the actual implementation of the BSA model. The spatio-temporal database is divided into three interdependent sub-databases: present DB, history DB and the procedures-tracing DB. The efficiency of database operation is improved by the database connection in the bottom layer of the Microsoft SQL Server. The spatio-temporal system can be provided at a low-cost while satisfying the basic needs of urban land management in China. The approaches presented in this paper may also be of significance to countries where land patterns change frequently or to agencies where financial resources are limited.

Abstract:Data quality and integrity is a critical issue of creating and maintaining a spatial database. It is possible to improve data quality by imposing constraints upon data entered into the database. Due to the complexity of spatial data and spatial relationships, existing data integrity technologies are inadequate and insufficient for spatial data. Introducing a spatial data integrity ensuring mechanism to SDBMS will bring much convenience to GIS applications, especially in department of data manufacture and management. This paper is aimed to seek for a proper solution for building such a spatial data integrity ensuring mechanism into SDBMS. From the result of our experiments and comparisons, a SDBMS supporting spatial integrity constraints has been proved to be much more intelligent and efficient in managing the spatial data.

Abstract:In order to achieve interoperability between the distributed spatial databases,the user queries optimization of the distributed query processing is an important topic.This kind of distributed query refers to any data processing statement,which access each site of the database rather than the site initiated query requests.Confronted with several kinds of queries optimization problems,a new architecture of query analyzer is presented in this paper.The space selection and connection in complex spatial query is also discussed.In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach,two example experiments are done.The results obtained from performance analysis show that the filters and modification is pivotal factors in queries optimization.This approach has a good effect on time and space cost compared with the traditional solutions.

Abstract:Traditional geo-hazards database is usually a static database and cannot record the dynamic change information for geo-hazards.This paper points out that temporal GIS is the solution and presents the multilevel base state with amendments data model based on events(DMBSAE).It designs and builds the spatio-temporal database for geo-hazards based on DMBSAE model and conceptual model for spatio-temporal process,and discusses the key issues such as the four-database structure,the basic idea of patio-temporal data organizations,database equalization,the storage mechanism of spatio-temporal data in the object-relational database,the history state recovering,and the tracing for hazard object's change.The developed the temporal GIS system(GH-TGIS) of geo-hazards has already been applied in early warning and forecast for geo-hazards,dynamic management of geo-hazards and comparative analysis of geo-hazards.The successful application states that DMBSAE model is of practical value for it can store and manage massive spatio-temporal data efficiently and conveniently.

Abstract:Sustainability research faces many challenges as respective environmental, urban and regional contexts are experiencing rapid changes at an unprecedented spatial granularity level, which involves growing massive data and the need for spatial relationship detection at a faster pace. Spatial join is a fundamental method for making data more informative with respect to spatial relations. The dramatic growth of data volumes has led to increased focus on high-performance large-scale spatial join. In this paper, we present Spatial Join with Spark (SJS), a proposed high-performance algorithm, that uses a simple, but efficient, uniform spatial grid to partition datasets and joins the partitions with the built-in join transformation of Spark. SJS utilizes the distributed in-memory iterative computation of Spark, then introduces a calculation-evaluating model and in-memory spatial repartition technology, which optimize the initial partition by evaluating the calculation amount of local join algorithms without any disk access. We compare four in-memory spatial join algorithms in SJS for further performance improvement. Based on extensive experiments with real-world data, we conclude that SJS outperforms the Spark and MapReduce implementations of earlier spatial join approaches. This study demonstrates that it is promising to leverage high-performance computing for large-scale spatial join analysis. The availability of large-sized geo-referenced datasets along with the high-performance computing technology can raise great opportunities for sustainability research on whether and how these new trends in data and technology can be utilized to help detect the associated trends and patterns in the human-environment dynamics.

Abstract:This document is a first exploration on the feasibility of the Non-sql database HBase and GeoSOT grids on the management of spatial data in big data time of spatial database. The traditional methods to face the challenge is mainly on the downward expanding; and the consumption of time and storage space is huge, also with a high price. We combine the distributed database HBase and global subdivision grid for data management in this research. The geocodes of the grid can present the spatial position of a spatial object and be regarded as the keyvalue in HBase. The design changes the traditional object-oriented database to geography-oriented database and more geographical characteristics are taken into account. We also make a comparison experiment on our theory and the result turns out that our new method has more advantages of geographical in query when the data volumn is huge.

Abstract:It has been acclaimed that the future vision for GIS data sharing might look like this: each of small counties or towns hosts its own online GIS; and each uses software and a data model selected to best meet its own needs. This paper gives a model based on Oracle Spatial, within a local government or enterprise the spatial data is in centralized storage, and with metadata interoperability, which enables the organizations to use the proper tool for the job while eliminating complicated data transfers and duplications throughout the enterprise or different departments. The MapInfo and ArcGIS software have been made to work together under the same oracle spatial database use trigger and storage process. On another hand, with the situation of between the departments or enterprises, a three-tier structure solution is given: spatial data server, application server and application client. The application server is a mediation system, this model uses oracle application server as the mediation system, and through the application server the application client sends WMS or WFS request and get the map server for background application. The three-tier structure model exposes a GIS portal which is an online GIS for external applications. Any client can request the server if it accords with WMS or WFS specification.

Abstract:This paper presents a new architecture of database to deal with the complex structure and large volume of the spatial data. The object-oriented technology, which has the powerful modeling ability to describe the complex objects, is used to model the spatial objects. The massive storage that is base on the tertiary storage device is preferred to the large volume of spatial data. The deductive rules help to form more powerful query, optimize the query process and accelerate the data retrieval. Here we integrate the technologies of object-oriented, massive storage and deductive database into the traditional spatial database and build a new framework in which each part is described in detail.

Abstract:For the last decades, GIS software technologies have made tremendous development and applied to many special fields when their targets are relevant to geographical locations. But the basis of cartographic mapping of GIS is a restriction for more development in GIS data modelling, storage and manipulation. Recently, much attention is being paid on ORDBMS(Object Relational Database Management System) to represent and manage GIS Data. New approaches have earned acceptance in many research communities and several proposals have emerged in commercial software for solving the management and manipulation on GIS vector data. Though the storage and management of field-based model data (e. g. raster, DEM, TIN) have got less achievement and people still use files and procedural ways to manipulation field-based GIS data in common applications. In this paper a new structure model using ORDBMS technology for field-based data's storage and management was proposed on the basis of full discussion on several GIS data management technologies, then a problem-oriented approach for DEM data management and manipulation was designed and implemented through open source software systems PostgreSQL and Python language. Experimental examples of different DEM data sources were stored, managed and used by using the extended spatial database system. The experiments illustrated that this solution would be a useful supplement to spatial database and it provided an effective way to DEM data management and analysis, and support the interoperability between vector data and field data.
