Abstract:Liquid meta-service, a component-based operating system layer, is intended to enable embedded operating system to support pervasive computing by meeting the requirements of being spontaneous and adaptive. This is accomplished through two key features: (1) configurable, component-based infrastructure services called meta-service, and (2) a meta-service components trading service, which provides selecting and configuring mechanism for meta-service components. In this paper, we discuss the design principle, component model, implementations of some meta-service, and analyze the performance impact of using meta-service in embedded operating system.

Abstract:Taking advantages of the modular nature of Linux, a set of Linux modules were improved to make Linux run on various SoC. The module improvement was including: developing a target-specific bootloader, designing a memory management module for the MMU-less processor, real-time improvement in scheduling module and organizing a small footprint file system for the flash memory. These modules can be reassembled on demands, catering for different boards and applications. Moreover, methods for developing embedded Linux are concluded, including tool chains and debug techniques. Case studies on two hardware platforms, based on ARM720T and M68K respectively, shown that the work satisfies application requirements.

Abstract:A software framework forthe honeycomb-lie rapid embedded system platform(HLRESP) ispresented.The proposed software framework is based on the open-source eclipse project and the agent concept and client-server architecture are adopted.Therefore,it can support cooperation of multidisciplinary design teams to some extent,which is different from most current general-purpose rapid sys-tem prototype(RSP) environments.Based on the novelarchitectureof the HLRESP system,board-level IP(BLIP) conceptis proposed,and the supporting software manages BLIPs as same as IPs.With concurrent versions system(CVS),the software framework adopted the extensible markup language(XML) specification for IP component exchange and integration.

Abstract:Component-based embedded operating systems are the products of applying component-based software development method to the embedded operating system field. Current component-based embedded operating systems differ from each other in many aspects including its system structure, component model, system construction method and supporting tools. This paper presents a component-based embedded operating system JBEOS. The most distinguishable features of the JBEOS system are: its reusable components were produced directly from compiled binary object files, and are described using XCODE (a XML-based component description language). The target runtime system is constructed dynamically through the provided system component service when the system is bootstrapping.

Based on a structure for systematic expression of the state of a multi-component process, a liquid storage district was firstly divided into assemble blocks for which rigorous models were built with principles. With the help of Simulink's graphical modeling interface and equation solver, a software package was developed for modeling and simulation of multi-component liquid storage district.

Abstract:Component-based Functional Integrated Circuit System (FICS) refers to the design and implementation of FICS using the Integrated Circuit system components. This paper discusses two parts: the Component-based Services Framework (CSF), or rather, the FICS framework for component-based application services, and Functional Integrated Circuit System Architecture Description Language (FICSADL), or rather, the application layer language for FICS service framework. The paper defines the FICSADL language elements, descriptive methods and formal specification by means of mapping the components of the service layer onto the connectors of the semantic layer. Various FICS business and system requirements are met by adjusting the connector glue parts on the semantic layer. Finally, the paper demonstrates the FICSADL π-calculus. This component-based FICS design and implementation is a design and implementation straight and directly from the algorithm to chip.

Abstract:For implementation of complex embedded system models on operating system, a new embedded operating system kernel based on model-driven architecture called Pcanel was proposed. When the kernel provided a component-based runtime environment, finely granular component was defined as basic entity, . and component frameworks were taken as the architecture for controlling component computation. Abstract computation models in design phase were mapped on the component frameworks to solve functional problems of embedded systems,and the component frameworks controlled the executions of components to solve non-functional problems. In the transition system,the control flow of compenent was separated from computation flow by introducing a formal transition system of state and action in Pcanel, and the composition of frameworks was implemented in a formal recursive way. Experimental results indicate that Pcanel can be flexibly applied in complex embedded systems. With resriction on the component model,the composition and verification of components can be achieved more easily.

Abstract:Emerging new computing models make embedded systems become more ubiquitous and pervasive. To adapt the dynamic computing environment, future embedded operating system (EOS) is required to be highly flexible: the static image composition can be configured and the runtime structure can dynamically evolve. In this paper, we present a software framework for building such an EOS through a component-based approach. One unique feature of our framework is its ability of supporting black-box software reuse. This capability permits components from third-party systems to be reused, and frees component developers from the burden of meeting certain implementation constraints imposed by the component model. Based on a flexible binding model, the component runtime service that resides in the nucleus of this framework provides reconfiguration functions to support runtime changes in components and connectors at different levels. To evaluate this framework, we have reorganized uC/OS-II into a component-based one, and we also have implemented a prototype system named as TICK which consists of both native components and reused components. Experiment results show the performance cost induced by our framework is controllable and acceptable.
A Component-Based Model Integrated Framework For Embedded Software

Abstract:The development of distributed, concurrent software in embedded systems is becoming increasingly complex and error-prone. Model-based integration of reusable components is advocated as the method of choice. To this end, we propose a framework to support component-based model integration, hierarchical functionality composition, and reconfiguration of systems with continuous and discrete dynamics. In this framework, components are designed and used as building blocks for integration, each of which is modeled with abstract ports, reactions, and communication schemes. It uses hierarchical composition to hide the implementation details of components, and keeps the components at the same level of hierarchy interacting under a well-defined model of computation. Code generation takes the design decisions down to the final running system. Within this framework, embedded software can be constructed by selecting and then connecting components in a functionality repository, specifying models and transforming them to executable codes.

Abstract:The close interactions between hardware and software of trustworthy systems demand co-simulation. Due to their diverse applications and often strict physical constraints, trustworthy systems are increasingly component-based and include only the necessary components for their missions. For this reason, we present a novel component-based approach to hardware-software co-simulation systems using OR1200. In our approach, a component model for trustworthy systems which unifies the concepts of hardware components and software components is defined. In our proposed system, it uses an Instruction Set Simulator (ISS) instead of OR1200 CPU when simulating the SoC system, and makes use of socket, shared memory and Programming Language Interface (PLI) function to communicate and transfer data between processes. The proposed system is illustrated by an application in H.264 decoding system that is practical and effective. © 2007 IEEE.

Abstract:Many standards for operating system interfaces or on-chip bus interfaces have been developed. Component-based EOS projects are seeking approaches to adapt component based software development technologies to embedded systems. An important issue is to develop hardware independent software that meets differing requirements pertinent to embedded applications. The hardware abstraction layer (HAL) presented here is to serve this purpose. In JBEOS, a component based EOS developed at Peking Univ. The following aspects are stressed: abstraction of basic data types, including their in-memory representation and operations; encapsulation of H/W dependent features into clear interfaces for kernel and user applications; H/W peculiarities should be encapsulated but not masked, i.e., HAL should provide mechanisms to access H/W directly when desired; minimized ROM and RAM footprints; supports for EOS above with no bias to any specific design and/or implementation; minimum efforts required when porting to a new platform.

Abstract:On the basis of the research on embedded software, a model-centric component-based method for the concurrent development of embedded software was suggested. The approach used dynamic data flow (DDF) graph as system model to describe the functional and performance requirements of the embedded system, which provided powerful description and analysis ability. With the help of a dedicated implementation architecture of the component model and automatic generation of execution code framework, the entire system in DDF could be effectively decomposed into a lot of separate components, which interacted according to DDF whose appropriate scheduler consistently showed the runtime semantics of the system. This method was desirable to deal with the complexity of embedded software, supported the concurrent development and reuse of components, so it would get a system developing quickly and kept costs down.

Abstract:The liquid is an essential component of natural creatures with profound capacities in assisting homeostatic regulation of physiological functions. However, its participation in more diverse biological behaviors, such as intelligence, motion, energy, etc., is seriously neglected and is undisclosed thus far. Herein, it is considered whether liquid systems can offer pivotal hints in the development of intelligent machines. Starting from this core point, a basic conjecture is proposed that specifically equips a robotic system with liquid that brings about revolutionary design of intelligent systems and plays an elementary role in molding future advanced soft robots. Through a comparative analogy between artificially made machines and natural animals, the basic category of the so‐termed Intelligent Liquid Integrated Functional Entity (I‐LIFE) is drafted and thus enabled. Then, functions of such unconventional robotic liquid are expounded from five aspects, including motion, energy supply, material performance tuning, sensing, and intelligence, respectively. Typical application examples are also illustrated. Furthermore, a group of intelligent liquids are recommended as candidates for developing future robotic systems. The fundamental scientific and technological challenges lying behind these recommendations are outlined. Finally, prospects of I‐LIFE are pointed out, which stimulates the increasing design of a future generation of innovative intelligent robotic systems.

Abstract:Functional liquid-based interfaces, with their inhomogeneous regions that emphasize the functionalized liquids, have attracted much interest as a versatile platform for a broad spectrum of applications, from chemical manufacturing to practical uses. These interfaces leverage the physicochemical characteristics of liquids, alongside dynamic behaviors induced by macroscopic wettability and microscopic molecular exchange balance, to allow for tailored properties within their functional structures. In this Minireview, we provide a foundational overview of these functional interfaces, based on the structural investigations and molecular mechanisms of interaction forces that directly modulate functionalities. Then, we discuss design strategies that have been employed in recent applications, and the crucial aspects that require focus. Finally, we highlight the current challenges in functional liquid-based interfaces and provide a perspective on future research directions.

Abstract:To enhance flexibility of embed system,USB floppy driver is developed under WinCE.NET,based on the structure of stream interface driver,the characteristics of load mechanism of stream interface driver,UFI technology is used to control USB floppy,USB floppy format method and detailed process are presented finally.The driver has been successfully applied in the regional water monitoring and measuring instrument based on ARM9,and it extended the functionality of the instrument,a good reference value is provided for similar device.

Abstract:Modern embedded systems tend to be heterogeneous in the sense that components in a system have diverse interaction styles. Composition of subsystems with very different characteristic complicates embedded software development and challenges understandability, composability, and scalability of models. The paper describes a model driven component framework, Pcanel, to solve this problem. It proposes a hierarchical model structure and semantic framework that supports heterogeneous components. Pcanel drives component execution by models of computation, allowing the formal analysis, verification and validation of the embedded software. Models explicitly represent the designer's understanding of the system, and capture the requirements and the design of the application. The paper presents the principles and techniques of Pcanel in details. Examples in terms of real systems are given that illustrate how Pcanel addresses the heterogeneity nature and the assurance issues of embedded software composition.
