Abstract:Heartbeat mechanism is widely used in the high availability field of monitor network service and server nodes. In this paper, we design a distributed heartbeat mechanism, which consists of one Master node and multiple Standby nodes, all running the same process of heartbeat but in different states. We experimentally demonstrate that the mechanism improves the scalability over that of the dual computer nodes and supports nice fail-over. Moreover, the process of the heartbeat only needs to maintain few states, which dramatically reduces the overheads of the system and simplifies the management of the nodes. When there are only two nodes in the network, the mechanism will degenerate to dual computer heartbeat. In current version, the mechanism only supports the switch-based architecture; it is easy to make it supporting other architectures such as Ring, etc.

Abstract:Heartbeat is the most important method of fault detection in the distributed systems. A heartbeat protocol allows two nodes to detect the states of each other by exchanging messages periodically. But it remains two problems in the heartbeat detection of multi-machines. That are, the disagreement of detection results and the over costs of the master-nodes. This paper promotes a heartbeat protocol basing on multiple master-nodes (HPMM). HPMM solves the problem of the disagreement in detection results by voting and electing among master-nodes, and also improves the continuous work time as well as the availability of the system. In addition, the detection costs can be reduced by distributing workload into multiple master-nodes.

Abstract:Wireless sensor networks have been widely deployed for environment monitoring. The resource-limited sensor nodes usually transmit the sensing readings to Sink node collaboratively in a multihop manner to conserve energy. In this paper, we consider the problem of spatial clustering for approximate data collection that is feasible and energy-efficient for environment monitoring applications. Spatial clustering aims to group the highly correlated sensor nodes into the same cluster for rotatively reporting representative data later. Through a thorough investigation of a real-world environmental data set, we observe strong temporal-spatial correlation and define a novel similarity measure metric to inspect the similarity between any two sensor nodes, which take both magnitude and trend of their sensing readings into consideration. With such metric, we propose a clustering algorithm named as HSC to group the most similar sensor nodes in a distributed way. HSC runs on a prebuilt data collection tree, and thus gets rid of some extra requirements such as global network topology information and rigorous time synchronization. Extensive simulations based on realworld and synthetic data sets demonstrate that HSC performs superiorly in clustering quality when compared with the alternative algorithms. Furthermore, approximate data collection scheme combined with HSC can reduce much more communication overhead while incurring modest data error than with other algorithms.

Abstract:A heartbeat monitor mechanism which is designed especially for the multi-machine system with high reliability is introduced. With the turbine triple modular redundant emergency trip system as research object, the experimental system is designed to be multi-master and multi-slave structure. The heartbeat monitor model combining PUSH and PULL can decrease the misdiagnosis rate greatly. Simulation results and field commissioning prove the effectiveness and reliability of this mechanism.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel heartbeat diagnosis regarding performance anomaly for OpenMP multi-threaded applications. First, we design injected heartbeat APIs for OpenMP multi-threaded applications. Then, we leverage the heartbeat sequences to extract features of previously-observed anomalies. Finally, we adopt a tree-based algorithm, namely HSA, to identify the features that are required to diagnose anomalies. To evaluate our framework, the NAS Parallel NPB benchmark, EPCC OpenMP micro-benchmark suite, and Jacobi benchmark are used to test the performance of our approach proposed.

A New Method to Improve the Dependability of Key Nodes in Pervasive Computing Environment

Abstract:Pervasive computing has been a hot point in researches for decades which integrates digital and physical devices in everyday life. The availability of key nodes which provide service is momentous. HA Cluster computing systems have become significantly practical for being server node. The availability of heartbeats, a main fault detection method, plays a momentous role in existing HA systems. However, the HA system may work on incorrect status when a fault exists in heartbeat links in the HA architecture. This paper presents a HA system with an independent monitor-based mechanism which monitors the leader nodes and manage the system to avoid the fault operation resulting from failures of heartbeat links. Its architecture is discussed, and the dependability of the system is analyzed by a continuous time Markov chain model; the dependability of a HA system and the HA system with an independent monitor module are compared. The results show that the proposed method is reasonable and will significantly improve the availability of the server node to fulfill the requirement in pervasive computing environment.

Abstract:In most of fault detection algorithms of distributed system, fault model is restricted to fault of process, and link failure is simply masked, or modeled by process failure. Both methods can soon use up system resource and potentially reduce the availability of system. A fault Detection Protocol based on Heartbeat of multiple Master-nodes (DPHM) is proposed, which can immediately and accurately detect and locate faulty links by adopting voting and electing mechanism among master-nodes. Thus, DPHM can effectively improve availability of system. In addition, in contrast with other detection protocols, DPHM reduces greatly the detection cost due to the structure of master-nodes.

Abstract:Contactless cardiac sensing is drawing researchers’ attention because of its comfort, flexibility, and safety. However, as the far-field method may lose spatial resolution in the chest area and subtle heart dynamics. We developed the near-field cardiac sensing (NCS) method with high energy coupling and high spatial resolution characteristics. In this paper, we summarize NCS system and its near-field coupling electromagnetic (EM) numerical model. Then, the high spatial resolution multi-point NCS system is validated by EM simulation and experiments. Results show that NCS system can acquire the heartbeat dynamics with high spatial resolution, and it can detect heart chambers’ synchronization. So, NCS can be applied to noninvasive atrioventricular and interventricular dyssynchrony detection.

Abstract:This brief presents an energy-efficient design with cascaded structure aiming at multiclass heartbeat classification. support vector machine-based granular resampling method is put forward to obtain a hybrid classifier which includes a low-complexity model (LCM) to identify most easy-to-learn heartbeats and a high-accuracy classifier to discriminate the remained. The hybrid classifier combined with one-versus-all strategy is employed to achieve a multiclass classification model. An adaptive speculative mechanism based on the occurrence regularity of electrocardiogram abnormities is proposed to lower the complexity and computation burden of the multiclass classification model. The corresponding energy-efficient hardware architecture is designed and its architecture optimizations include memory segmentation to reduce energy consumption and time domain reuse to save resources. Implemented in 40-nm CMOS process, the design occupies 0.135 mm(2) area. It consumes 2.60-48.99 nJ/classification under 1-V voltage supply and 1 MHz operating frequency. Results show that the design provides an average prediction speedup by 60.66% and a significant energy dissipation reduction by 55.26% per beat compared with a high-accuracy model without LCMs.

Abstract:In this paper, a new method based on Supervised Kohonen network (SKN) and Mel-frequency cepstrum coefficients (MFCC) is introduced. MFCC of heart sound signal are extracted firstly, and then features are got by calculating every order of MFCC average energy. Finally, SKN is used to identify heart sound. The experimental result shows that this algorithm has a good performance in heart sound clustering, and is of significant practical value.

Abstract:Life is one of the most complex nonlinear systems and heart is the core of this lifecycle system. In this paper, multiscale analysis method was introduced to find the most effective parameters for expressing. the complex nonlinear dynamic characteristics of heart electrical activities. After determining the appropriate scale factor, we investigated the multifractal singularity spectrum area of synchronous 12-lead ECG signals taken from different human subjects in abundant samples. The emphases were the crowds of myocardial ischemia sufferer, the myocardial infarction sufferer and the healthy young person. Then, we compared their statistical mean values and dispersing degrees respectively, and tried to find some effective approaches to distinguish healthy people from the diseased through those individual discrepancies.

Abstract:Heart rate variation is a dynamic process that requires real-time monitoring and timely diagnostic categorization in clinical settings. Addressing the challenge of reducing manual workload while ensuring diagnostic accuracy through intelligent diagnostic technologies is a crucial concern in clinical practice. Frequency domain analysis of heart rate time series can reflect the operation of the autonomic nervous system, thereby enhancing the sensitivity and accuracy of heart rate variation monitoring. In this study, through the fusion of temporal and time-frequency domain features in electrocardiogram (ECG) data using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), and based on inter-sample clustering analysis and Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) evaluation of heart rate variability, a model for heart rate changes in a normal population is established. Following the analysis and processing of selected heart rate data, this model provides a foundational approach for predicting abnormal heart rate conditions and health management. The use and introduction of data analysis techniques in this paper serve as an important reference for medical and health management research. Continuous experimentation with related algorithms to minimize errors will enhance the accuracy and comprehensiveness of mathematical-based heart rate monitoring and analysis methods, thereby promoting their widespread application in relevant fields.

Abstract:A cluster-based model is preferable in wireless sensor network due to its ability to reduce energy consumption. However, managing the nodes inside the cluster in a dynamic environment is an open challenge. Selecting the cluster heads (CHs) is a cumbersome process that greatly affects the network performance. Although there are several studies that propose CH selection methods, most of them are not appropriate for a dynamic clustering environment. To avoid this problem, several methods were proposed based on intelligent algorithms such as fuzzy logic, genetic algorithm (GA), and neural networks. However, these algorithms work better within a single-hop clustering model framework, and the network lifetime constitutes a big issue in case of multi-hop clustering environments. This paper introduces a new CH selection method based on GA for both single-hop and the multi-hop cluster models. The proposed method is designed to meet the requirements of dynamic environments by electing the CH based on six main features, namely, (1) the remaining energy, (2) the consumed energy, (3) the number of nearby neighbors, (4) the energy aware distance, (5) the node vulnerability, and (6) the degree of mobility. We shall see how the corresponding results show that the proposed algorithm greatly extends the network lifetime.

Abstract:The scarcity of annotated data is a common issue in the realm of heartbeat classification based on deep learning . Transfer learning (TL) has emerged as an effective strategy for addressing this issue. However, current TL techniques in this realm overlook the probability distribution differences between the source domain (SD) and target domain (TD) databases. The motivation of this paper is to address the challenge of labeled data scarcity at the model level while exploring an effective method to eliminate domain discrepancy between SD and TD databases, especially when SD and TD are derived from inconsistent tasks. This study proposes a multi-module heartbeat classification algorithm . Initially, unsupervised feature extractors are designed to extract rich features from unlabeled SD and TD data . Subsequently, a novel adaptive transfer method is proposed to effectively eliminate domain discrepancy between features of SD for pre-training (PTF-SD) and features of TD for fine-tuning (FTF-TD). Finally, the adapted PTF-SD is employed to pre-train a designed classifier, and FTF-TD is used for classifier fine-tuning, with the objective of evaluating the algorithm's performance on the TD task. In our experiments, MNIST-DB serves as the SD database for handwritten digit image classification task , MIT-DB as the TD database for heartbeat classification task. The overall accuracy of classifying heartbeats into normal heartbeats, supraventricular ectopic beats (SVEBs), and ventricular ectopic beats (VEBs) reaches 96.7 %. Specifically, the sensitivity (Sen), positive predictive value (PPV), and F1 score for SVEBs are 0.802, 0.701, and 0.748, respectively. For VEBs, Sen, PPV, and F1 score are 0.976, 0.840, and 0.903, respectively. The results indicate that the proposed multi-module algorithm effectively addresses the challenge labeled data scarcity in heartbeat classification through unsupervised learning and adaptive feature transfer methods.

Abstract:Ad hoc networks are self-organizing multi-hop systems consisting wireless nodes which can communicate with each other without pre-existing infrastructure. Clustering has evolved as an important research topic in mobile ad hoc networks(MANETs) as it improves the system performance of MANET, in the presence of both mobility and a large number of mobile terminals. In this paper, we propose a new clustering protocol for MANETs. The proposed protocol yields small number of multi-hop clusters with large size, so as to support large ad hoc networks. The proposed protocol utilizes routing information to adjust the topology of the clusters so as to reduce the overhead of the cluster maintenance and extend the life time of the cluster head. The objective of the clustering strategy is to achieve scalability and efficient routing. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol provides good performance in terms of the number of formed clusters and the percentage of connected nodes.

Abstract:With turbine triple module redundant emergent trip system as research object of reliability and multi-machine system, a heartbeat monitor mechanism in high-reliability multi-machine system is introduced. The mechanism combines PUSH model with PULL model. Hierarchy heartbeat monitor and integrating the heartbeat message into data transmission are designed in the mechanism. The invalidation detecting mechanism combines PUSH with PULL heartbeat monitor model can enhance reliability and decrease the system misdiagnosis rate greatly. By adapting hierarchy heartbeat mechanism and integrating the heartbeat detecting message into the data transmission, the system communication cost is decreased. Simulation results prove the effectiveness and reliability of this mechanism.

Abstract:Grid is one of the currently and most actively developing concepts in the IT community, which nodes can dynamically enter and quit system. So, there are some real problems about nodes membership management in grid environments, especially, when considering asynchronous wide-area networks conditions, where messages may be delayed indefinitely and nodes may fail. Heartbeat detection is one of basic blocks to construct a reliable Grid system. Aim at the highly dynamic characteristics of grid system, a novel heartbeat detection method is designed to solve the Consensus problem and node management according to network changing. The results show that, on the basis of the algorithm implementation failure detector has better performance. Compared to other failure detector, ours is much efficient and dependable.

Abstract:This paper proposes Energy-Based Multi-hop Clustering(EMHC) algorithm which selects cluster heads according to the priority ofresidual energy and adopts the minimum inner-cluster communication cost structure.Simulations on OMNet++ show that the cluster heads areevenly distributed, and energy is saved to improve the network lifetime by EMHC algorithm.Its performance is superior to LEACH and HEED.
