Abstract:Objective:Clinical descriptions of addiction emphasize the importance of repeated attempts to quit drug use and continued drug-taking despite awareness of the negative consequences. Evidences from clinical studies suggest that the craving for addictive substance of drug addicts keeps out of self-control even after long-term withdrawal,while the physiological symptoms might have disappeared for months or years. It has been proved that drug related cue can induce higher drug craving. But there are rare studies on effects of drug related cue on impulsive choice of heroin addicts at different abstinent time. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of drug related cue on decision-making in heroin addicts at different abstinent time. Methods:In the present study,we used Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) to assess decision-making in chronic heroin addicts and investigate the effects of drug related cue on impulsive choice. The subjects provided written informed consent before testing. All subjects were 20 to 45 years old,with a DSM-Ⅳ diagnosis of substance dependence to opiates and had been drug free for 30 d,3 months,12 months,24 months. All subjects completed HAMA,BDI,Barratt questionnaires and tests of attention and working memory. Blood pressure and heart rate were monitored at pre-CONTROL,post-CONTROL,pre-CUE and post-CUE tested time points. And the subjects were required to rate differential emotion state and craving score at four time points. At each tested time point we used Iowa Gambling Task to assess decision-making. Results:The study found that both the short-term and long-term abstinent subjects had higher impulsive scores after exposure to effective drug related cue . There was significant difference at pre-CUE and post-CUE time point. Conclusion:The present study displayed that drug related cue enhanced the impulsive choice in heroin addicts at different abstinent time. It makes contributions to solve compulsive drug taking and prevent relapse. The neural mechanisms underlying the enhancement of impulsive choice of drug related cue on heroin addicts at different abstinent time need to be explored deeply.
