Abstract:Counter-terrorism measures invading into the field of criminal procedure is an unprecedented challenge for due process and human rights protection.A furious impact has been left on the basic criminal procedural system,including wiretap,search,detention,judicial review,tribunal and evidence rule,and human rights protection is also under its direct influence.The change of the American counter-terrorism law and criminal justice practice have been a focus in the world and a typical example in this field.There is a deep value choosing under this change.The fighting between justice and utility has a decisive role in the direction of the reform of the American counter-terrorism law and justice.The rise of the dignitary theory is the ideal basis of the renaissance of due process.As to the criminal procedure law amendement and ideas renewing of China,a lesson should be learned from this by giving reasonable response to terrorism crimes.Under the balance theory,the inner value of due process can not yield to the utilitarian requirement easily.

Abstract:This article takes up a comparative reading of Zhang Chengzhi's Islamic fiction Investigation of Assassinations in the Western Province (1989) and Xiao Bai's historical thriller Blockade (2017), arguing that the two terrorism-themed novellas are constituents of world literature in the Age of Terror, an age that features crises of both history and representation. By conceiving world literature as a narrative event born out of the rupture of history, this article analyzes how two Chinese novelists, from the periphery and the center of national subjectivity, aim to act out the dubious complicity between the terrorist and the author. While Zhang's obsession with Jahriyya and extremist violence is entwined with his suspicion of the agency of narrative, Xiao Bai is inclined to consecrate the author as a divine source of explosive imagination, and to disenchant the readers' obsession with the closure of event. A universal claim based on my case study of contemporary Chinese literature thus emerges: placed in a broad continuum of post-9/11 crisis representation, these two novellas bear witness to the performative forces of world literature in rectifying the dominant national historiography and the subalternity of the dispossessed.

Abstract:The issue of terrorism has become a major topic in the international academic circles and with good reasons.It is extremely difficult to define terrorism.The authors point out that something is wrong with some scholars' methods of defining terrorism.Without a view of the context of globalization,one cannot grasp the nature of terrorism.Contemporary terrorism is a by-product of the globalization process for the time being.In the perspective of cross-cultural relationships,terrorism can be interpreted as some ″non-Western cultures″ fighting back at the globalization strategy of Western cultures,though in an extremist,cruel and counter-humanist way.Corresponding to the manifested cruelty of terrorism,there is the Huntingtonian ″Clash of Civilizations″ which is also rather aggressive.Kofi Annan and Habermas point out that conflict or clash is only one of the various forms of the relations between among cultures.If we neglect the mutual influence,mutual learning and mutual promoting among cultures,and even worse,if we take the clash of cultures as the only possible form of relations between different cultures,it is not only a theoretical error,but will cause a severe realistic outcome as well.However,cross-cultural dialogues proposed by Kofi Annan and Habermas and others are very hard to be carried out though they appear rather necessary.In spite of this,the authors still agree with their attitude and strategy.Counter-terrorism is a concrete and complicated political action,which involves not only the relations between different cultures,but also the political reality in many countries.We should never simplify the issue,as does Huntington.In a word,we must oppose terrorism,but we should never oppose it from the viewpoint of ″Clash of Civilizations″.

Abstract:In the field of contemporary " non-traditional security studies ", the issues of preventing potential " cultural hegemony" and protecting the security of indigenous cultures are difficult but unavoidable problems. Today, definitions of "cultural security" have quietly broadened in every country; "cultural hegemony" and "cultural threats" that people should guard against also have become more complex and interactive. The basic guarantees for international mufti-level "cultural security" require an understanding and nonabuse of cultural power, a reflection on the different models of mul-ticufturalism, and an emphasis on preserving the cultural rights of the public.

Abstract:By making a comparative reading of DeLillo's Falling Man and McCann's Let the Great World Spin,this paper argues that the narrative field of 9/11 novels exists on the vertical axis of"elegy"and the horizontal axis of"critique."It is the combination of both that helps contemporary American fiction to overcome the context-free monosemy in conservative 9/11 discourses,and add more humanistic concerns to left-wing anti-Americanism.Given sueh a Unique"counter-narrative,"9/11 novel is in the position of seeing"terrorism vs.global capitalism"from an internalized aesthetic perspective and of realizing a new epistemological paradigm in 9/11 narrative.

Abstract:China’s responses in the past decade has been seen in the West as an attempt to jump on the bandwagon to justify Beijing’s long-term religious, cultural, political suppression of the Uighur community, both internationally and domestically. Uighur activists and human rights advocates have long decried the liberal use of the term “terrorist” by the Chinese authorities as well as their tendency to conflate ethnic, religious and violent activities. On the other hand, China has often criticized Western approaches to counter-terrorism and attempted to promote its own measures as a better alternative. This paper seeks to address the questions raised by such developments on China’s definition of terrorism and how China’s resistance/criticism of the US-led counter-terrorism campaign reshapes the domestic conceptualization of terrorism and the subsequent implementation of counter-measures.

Abstract:The national culture security is one of the important domains of contemporary non-traditional security studies. In the nationalistic universal system, the major aspects of national culture security are political culture security, language and information security, and civil education system security. The wide field of nontraditional security studies inspires national governments to pay more attention to the benign interaction between domestic cultural innovation stratagem and transnational culture exchange stratagem. First, they reflect the history of ideology ″cold war″ between U.S. and Soviet Union, and reevaluate the function of national political ideology, all these reflections and reevaluations possess the consciousness of ″open″ and (″transcendence″). Secondly, in order to protect the native language and information security, most governments start to advocate and cherish the multiplex unity. Thirdly, many state leaders now focus on the transnational education network system and carefully deal with the tendency of study abroad. They are trying to encourage these exchange education programs and reform the domestic education system at the same time. All these changes offer many inspirations for us to establish the strategy of contemporary Chinese culture security. First, Chinese political culture needs modern (opening and enlightened) nationality and China can cooperate with others to create the common transnational ideology. China can also actively participate in the construction of international cultural criterions. Secondly, we should make innovation to our self-knowledge of ″great power of national culture″. Thirdly, we have to enhance the transnational cooperation to supervise those cross-nation linkage of cultural extremists and be on guard against different type of confusions based on cultural non-consciousness.

Abstract:Although much political capital has been made regarding the war on terrorism, and while appropriations have gotten underway, there has been a dearth of deep work on counter-terrorism, and despite massive efforts by the federal government, most cities and states do not have a robust response system. In fact, most do not yet have a robust audit system with which to evaluate their vulnerabilities or their responses. At the federal level there remain many unresolved problems of coordination. One reason for this is the shift of much of federal spending on war-fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. While this approach has drawn deep and lasting criticism, it is, in fact, in accord with many principles of both military and corporate strategy. In the following paper we explore several models of terrorist networks and the implications of both the models and their substantive conclusions for combating terrorism.

Abstract:Lefebver is the pioneer in the critique of everyday life of Western Marxism. He abandons the scientific analysis of the inevitable historical process of capitalism from the macro and objective perspective by adopting a subjective critical one(modern everyday life) as a breakthrough.He believes that the core of the capital ruling of the society lies in consumption instead of production,and in the field of everyday life instead of economic and political field.All this leads to the emergence of a "terroristic" phenomenon in the so-called modern everyday life: the tangible,partial,external and direct materialistic ruling is replaced by the cryptomorphic,inherent,pervasive and abstract one,and the external oppression is replaced by the self repression.This terrorism has nothing in common with the one pointed out by western dominating ideology.

Abstract:How to respond to the overwhelming tendency of cultural studies has become a topical issue for the Chinese scholars. Literature has long been a dominant form of culture playing the role of soul-redemption on the universal level. To reflect changes in this redemptive function is to see that the redemptive enthusiasm in 20th century Chinese literature to a great extent nurtured the consciousness of suffering that derived from the meditation tradition of 19th century Russian literature. The contemporary writers and intellectual community are interested in their presence in the media and therefore the consciousness of literary redemption becomes week, which is necessarily the result of economic and cultural globalization. However, the printed form of traditional literary texts has its ample reasons to believe in its own charm and need not fear about the attacks from new media. What is urgent for literary studies at present to resist against cultural studies is to keep steady in their positions and not be carried away by the trend. The redemptive complex of literature will live forever though it is not the didactic paradigm of grand narrative.

Abstract:In this paper, the author points out that the definition of terrorism is a theoretical basis for understanding the issue of terrorism, dealing with international anti-terrorist cooperation, and formulating relevant domestic policies. However, terrorism nowadays is mostly defined out of political needs but not out of academic motives. In addition, either from functionalism or from the essence of terrorism, the current way of defining terrorism has met with serious logical problems. The author argues that it is impossible to give a universal definition to terrorism either practically or theoretically. Instead, a pluralized way of defining terrorism complies with the pluralized characteristics of the real world. Therefore, it is both academic and objective.

Abstract:This essay analyzes the murderous attacks on New York's World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington in terms of what they reflect about the changing nature of global politics and the theoretical demands of these changes. Among the key issues that the article addresses are the implications of 11 September for the overall role of change and the importance of history in global politics, the status of the territorial state in the field, the role of non-states in the global arena, the nature of contemporary violence and its implications for individuals, the declining role of distance, the disappearing boundary between foreign and domestic affairs, and, most importantly, the central role of identity theory in making sense of the emerging world. Overall, the essay professes a ‘postinternational’ perspective in the tradition of James Rosenau, suggesting that the events of 11 September reflect a world in transition from a state-based international system to a far more complex political universe with similarities to the prestate world. Such a world entails a considerable remapping of conceptual and theoretical maps concerning the field.

Abstract:Contemporary literature study and criticism in the past 30 years since the reform and opening up has been progressing synchronously with literature,drawing on historical experiences and lessons,and echoing the realistic need.But there is also an ideological fickleness caused by the desire to surpass.As a result,the technical criticism on methodology detaches itself from the aesthetic value of text,and too much grandiose but impractical cultural criticism has rendered literature noumenon frothy and content-free.The long-term depression deprives researchers of the positive living ideal and the courage to face reality,thus the survival strategies are abused as the truth of literature.All these malpractices are serious enough for us to ponder over.

Reflections on "keyword Criticism" in Literary Research

Abstract:”Key words: criticism”, put forward by Raymond Williams, opens a new window, which reflects the disciplinary development via the explanation of core terms. It also provides a brand new research paradigm, which enlightens the increasingly stylized and prejudiced literary research in terms of methodology. Since the 1990s, there has been a noticeable phenomenon of keywords in the field of literary criticism. The ”keyword criticism” has many new changes and advances at the level of critical practices. For instance, instead of focusing on the etymological review, the current ”keyword criticism” examines the derivation of keywords in the critical practices, aiming at the construction and development of literary criticism theory and relevant subjects. It embodies the tendency to emphasize the close connection between the critical practices and the corresponding literary text. Some breakthroughs are made in the system of compilation and the literariness is signified further. All these reveal a new direction for the development of the ”keyword criticism”, and also show its vitality and achievements in the context of the new era. While fully understanding the theoretical value of the ”keyword criticism”, we should pay attention to some theory traps and practice paradoxes to avoid the transformation of political perspective, i.e. from the original one-dimensional view to the only angle perspective. We should beware of keywords' hegemony and superficialness as well.

Abstract:Much of the contemporary scholarship reproduces a disembodied approach to (counter)terrorism that fails to account for bodies, experiences, and subjectivities “at the sharp end.” To broaden the empirical focus and the ensuing blind spots, this article analyzes the varied and interdisciplinary approaches that put to the fore the intimacies of terrorism and the responses to it. It asks: What can the conceptual and methodological framework on embodiment and affect tell us about (counter)terrorism and terror threat? The conclusion argues that this framework does not merely extend the apparatus of terror/security to lived experience, but rather seeks to reframe the dominant notions of what terror/security is, how it is practiced, by whom, and with what effects.
