Rimmon-Kenan and Mark Currie:A Comparative Study of Their Theories of Narrators

Abstract:Kenan takes 'narrator'as the element of the narrative communication and classifies the narrative levels according to the narrator's participation in the story;while Currie proposes thesis that'narrator'is an operator and tries to testify it through the analysis of identities and point of view of the narrator.The differences between the two is that: Kenan's structurist narrative theory takes story as the central issue of the narration,by which the person who tells the story is often studied within the textual structure;while in Currie's postmodern narrative theory,the person as the'narrator'is emphasized,by which the narrative subject is studied from the point of view human natures because it is the human creature who makes the narration and interpretation.
