Abstract:By applying the top-down method in combination with the inbound tourism consumption stripping coefficient to measure the carbon emissions of inbound tourism and Tapio decoupling model analyze the relation between tourism economic growth and the carbon emissions, this study found that China's inbound tourism carbon emissions as a whole showed an upward trend from 2001 to 2015, which was basically in line with the trend of tourism economic growth. A significant difference existed in the carbon emissions between different branches of the inbound tourism, with the long-distance traffic being the largest emitter. The relation between the inbound tourism carbon emissions and the tourism economy showed a transition from expansive coupling to weak decoupling as a whole. This paper proposed that environmental regulations and policies be forcefully implemented to vigorously support low-carbon industry sectors, promote the development of low-carbon tourism products, and advocate low-carbon tourism to strengthen tourism economic growth and decrease carbon emissions.
