The Competitiveness Evaluation Research for Provincial Investment Environment in China Based on Modified Principal Component Analysis

Abstract:The paper uses the data from 31 provinces all over China in 2013 to study the provincial investment environment competitiveness,making rankings and regional classifications for it.To achieve that,we start from four demotions which are social environment,economy environment,infrastructure,and natural environment to construct the index system for competitiveness evaluation of provincial investment environment with the basement of competitiveness evaluation model and clustering analysis.It is found that the provincial investment environment competitiveness rankings show the feature of ladder-like distribution that the rankings in eaten areas are higher than that in western areas.The feature is almost the same as the regional economic development level in China.Also,there is a significantly positive correlation between the provincial investment environment competitiveness and the performance of absorbing foreign capital.In China,we could divide the provincial investment environment competitiveness into four categories and seven small classes to indicate the similarities and differences among different investment environment in some certain provinces.Besides,through Wilcoxon signed rank test,the ranking result is consistent with that published by Phoenix of Hubei.The conclusion helps the improvement for investment environment of all provinces in China and provides guidance and advice for foreign tradesmen to make scientific decisions of area investment.
