Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems

Abstract:Appropriate manufacturing strategy is critical for the implementation of supply chain management. The fundamental question in the development of manufacturing strategy is to determine whether the company produces by itself. After analyzing the characteristics of manufacturing strategies systematically, this paper presents a multi-objective optimization model that can assist the company to select and evaluate the appropriate manufacturing strategies efficiently. Based on ISO9000, ISO14000 series standards, some quantitative indexes are chosen to establish the selection and evaluation system. With the help of these evaluation indexes, the decision model addresses manufacturing processes, logistics, support systems and costs. Following the process of this model, the company can decide and evaluate the manufacturing strategies effectively, and choose the appropriate vendors and partners.

Abstract:Based on a thorough study of the implications and key techniques of intelligent manufacturing,this paper proposes three development models and specific technical approaches to assist in China's transition from digital manufacturing to intelligent manufacturing.Starting from the production characteristics of a typical industry,it puts forward a corresponding technical roadmap for the development of intelligent manufacturing.This roadmap provides guidance for technical approaches that can promote the development of China's manufacturing industry from digital manufacturing to intelligent manufacturing.

Abstract:According to the analysis of modern manufacturing services business model at home and abroad,this paper gave the difference on manufacturing services development level between China and developed countries,and pointed out the deficiencies of the development model and strategy put forward by the scholars.Then,every stage＇s services of the whole life cycle of the product were given,and the classifications of the manufacturing service were sum up according to the service providing object and service phase respectively.Thirdly,this paper mainly summarized the basic mode of modern manufacturing services.The business model of producer service oriented manufacturing included regional cluster model,product service provider model,decentralized small and medium-sized enterprise dynamic alliance service mode and large enterprise service model,and the corresponding system structure and typical cases were given respectively.The business model of product service oriented manufacturing included manufacturers extension service mode,user self-service mode,product service provider mode and integrated operation service mode,and the corresponding system structure and typical cases were given respectively.Finally,based on the current research,analysis and model investigation,the development strategies of China＇s manufacturing services were put forward,which will help to speed up the development of China＇s manufacturing services.

Abstract:We present the results of a 1997 study exploring the manufacturing strategy of 46 plants (foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) and wholly Chinese-owned enterprises (WCOEs)) located primarily in the Beijing–Tianjin area. Semi-structured interviews using a questionnaire in English and Chinese were employed to: (i) identify current activity (practices and emphases) and future trends in manufacturing, (ii) compare and contrast FIEs and WCOEs, and (iii) identify how practices correspond with performance on various competitive objectives and overall performance. Fundamental differences were found between FIEs and WCOEs both in terms of practice and priorities (the former emphasizing competition on time/delivery, and the latter various aspects of quality).

Abstract:The manufacturing strategy scale has a great practical significance as it enables the company to retain its manufacturing strategic position and thus lays a foundation for the choice of its manufacturing strategy. However, the current manufacturing strategy scale in China was introduced by translation and no analyses of its reliability or validity were conducted. This manufacturing strategy scale is not fully applicable to the Chinese situation due to Sino-Western differences. With 77 state-owned enterprises and foreign enterprises as samples, this article mainly sets to compile and revise the manufacturing strategy scale that applies to Chinese enterprises. The scale classifies manufacturing strategies as cost strategies, quality strategies and flexibility strategies. The analysis shows that the revised scale has good reliability and validity.

Abstract:There are a lot of research works as well as books written about SCM strategy, but few books are based on strategic theory of management in a pure sense. As a result, theories themselves are shallow and not in depth. In other words, SCM focuses on a strategic area of supply chain activities while, however, there are few books written on a basis of the theoretical or traditional articles of management strategy in a pure sense. The aims of this article are to review the theoretical strategy formulation concepts out of 50 books published in 2004 through 1990 while we had made logistics literature studies in the middle of 1995 with almost same approach and contributed to academic journals in Japan. This type of SCM literature study is a brand new research and the first attempt of research activity in Japan. As a survey result, it has made clear that most of books paid little attention to structural aspects of SCM strategy formulation as a state of art SCM model linked with management strategy theory. Therefore, we have reviewed the contents of SCM strategy written in fifty books and finally proposed our own SCM strategy structure and formulation based on strategic theories extracted from traditional international management theory as well as strategic theory of classical management.

Abstract:Cost management is a long-standing research topic in the field of management accounting. In today’s, cost management has been closely linked to the company’s strategy, and has become an important way for enterprises to build competitive advantage and create core competitiveness. In order to understand the development of strategic cost management in recent years, in order to inspire future research directions, this paper mainly selects the domestic and international literature on strategic cost management issues from 2013 to 2017, their research content, research framework, and research methods. The conclusions of the study are summarized. It is found that the strategic cost management research shows the characteristics of using empirical research and clear research framework. Finally, based on this, the future research is proposed.

Abstract:Productivity has always been one of the key research areas in both economics and geography,which relates to the source and quality of economic growth. In the paradigm of productivity research,manufacturing,as the core sector in the economic system,has attracted growing interests of scholars. China is currently experiencing a profound transformation from a big manufacturing country to a powerful manufacturing country. Manufacturing industry productivity has a great impact on the position of China in the global value chain. Against this background,this paper has provided a comprehensive review on manufacturing industry productivity research. The research on manufacturing productivity will lead to improving the efficiency of resource use and optimizing industrial distribution. The paper summarized the theoretical developments of manufacturing industry productivity research in different stages from three aspects: definition and research area,source of the productivity growth,and productivity growth path. The concept of manufacturing productivity can be discussed in two ways: single factor productivity and total factor productivity. Single factor productivity relates one input to outputs. Whereas,total factor productivity expresses the ratio of all outputs produced to all resources used. Based on Cobb-Douglas production function,capital and labor are the main dominant inputs of a production process taking technological improvements as exogenous assumption. With the development of the productivity study,the exogenous technological improvements assumption was break. The endogenous growth theory and the agglomeration theory emphasized the role of information spillover and externality. We generalized the contributing empirical research on manufacturing industry productivity. It's evident that fixed asset investment,foreign trade and export,foreign direct investment,institutional and policy environment,industrial agglomeration all affected manufacturing productivity. However,no unanimous conclusions have been obtained on how these factors impacted manufacturing productivity. One of the heated discussions is the relationship between export and manufacturing productivity. Some researchers found that exporting boosted firm productivity by expanding market opportunities,while others hold that only the most productive firms could become exporting enterprises. Compared with the empirical research in the West,we found that the factors influencing manufacturing productivity in China were more complicated in the Chinese economic environment. In general,the manufacturing productivity research in China has made remarkable progress especially in the aspect of empirical research. However,it lacked localized theoretical system,and was short of attention to the unique historical,geographic and policy background of manufacturing industry in China. Therefore,the manufacturing industry productivity research in China could more focus on the following aspects in the future:(1) constructing localized theoretical framework that is suitable for manufacturing industry productivity research in China;(2) exploring the spatial and industrial heterogeneity of manufacturing industry productivity by introducing multiple spatial analysis methods; and(3) regional manufacturing structure shift and productivity evolution under the background of the global industrial chain division and the domestic and international industry shift. Research on Chinese manufacturing productivity is useful for enhancing the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry in China.

As a result of that, market puts forward new demands for steel logistics service. In this paper, traditional model of steel logistics is analyzed on the basis of a comprehensive previous studies. Abstract:This study presents a systematic review of the literature on service-oriented manufacturing (SOM). Specifically, we focus on the impact of SOM on firm operating decisions, which distinguishes this work from previous reviews. This study proposes a classification framework for SOM research based on product flow, from its design to its final disposal. Although SOM has been studied for many years, most related research remains conceptual. Our criterion for choosing papers is that they must be relevant to practical problems. This review aims to provide readers a guide that will facilitate their search for papers in their field of interest. More importantly, we hope that this review can provide insightful managerial implications for SOM.

Abstract:This paper aims to investigate the manufacturing strategies for the manufacturing systems in the context of 3D printing, referring to ecosystem-based manufacturing systems, rather than firm-based and network-based ones. A case study approach was adopted for this research, as the data was mainly collected via semi-structured interviews with staff members of companies in China. Besides the elements of strategic choices and manufacturing capabilities identified in the extant literature, this research verified three additional strategic choice elements (functional role, platform and solution) and identified two factors (platform openness and solution diversity) to classify an ecosystem-based manufacturing system. Meanwhile, four manufacturing capabilities of the ecosystem-based manufacturing system have been identified: collaborative manufacturing flexibility, rapid thriftiness ability, self-customisation and co-evolved design capability. The research results contribute to the area of manufacturing strategy via expanding its view from the firm and network levels to the ecosystem level. Meanwhile, the research results present operations managers with an understanding of the strategic choices and manufacturing capabilities of an ecosystem-based manufacturing system in the context of 3D printing.

Abstract:Manufacturing paradigm plays a very important role in the national competitiveness of manufacturing industries. In recent 40 years,the developed countries have begun their research programs in advanced system and new paradigms such as intelligent manufacturing,mass customization and sustainable manufacturing,have been proposed in a bid to exceed the traditional mass production paradigm. The research in system area considers not only the technical factor,but also economic and social factors. The research in system area covers from modeling,analyzing,and designing system to operating and controlling it. The fundamental objectives are optimizations of productivity,quality,cost,service,and environment as well. Today on the one hand,we still need tremendous tasks on optimizing tool which is usually obtained from operations research and system theory because of the complexity of system. On the other hand the modern information and communication technology (ICT) has supplied new opportunities,the information driven manufacturing has become the hottest research topics and made a great progress. In the future the system must be planned and operated more precisely than today,based on the new ICT,to win the competitiveness. Looking into the future,manufacturing systems will develop toward the directions of precision,green and service. Under this background,the research on systems will face more opportunities and challenges.

Abstract:We investigate the manufacturing strategy of 72 Chinese furniture companies based on a nationwide survey conducted in mid-2001, just prior to WTO accession. We provide an overview of the industry and its context before reporting on the operations objectives of the firms — focusing on their relationship to financial performance and technology. We report on the current status of, and future plans for, manufacturing technology implementation and initiatives (such as computer-aided design, safety improvement, new product introduction, and reducing changeover times). We make comparisons with other studies, in particular in the US — where Chinese furniture imports are increasingly viewed as a competitive threat.
