Abstract:Drawing on matching data of 169 knowledge staff and 28 immediate supervisors, based on self determination theory and social exchange theory, we examine the effect of internal and external of organizational social network tie strength on innovation behavior, and whether these relations are mediated by need satisfaction for relatedness, whether are moderated by risk aversion. The results indicate that internal and external tie strength both show positive effects on innovation behavior, and need satisfaction for relatedness plays a full mediating role only in the relationship between internal tie strength and innovation behavior, and does not in the relationship between external tie strength and innovation behavior, and the relationship between need satisfaction for relatedness and innovation behavior is positively moderated by risk aversion.
