Abstract:A supply chain with a Third Party Logistics (TPL) service provider involved is studied using game theory. The factor of logistics service level is considered to see the effect on the supply chain's total profit. In addition, the profit allocation problem is also discussed in the paper. Then we find out that, when supplier, retailer and TPL use the collaborative decision-making strategy, the sales volume will increase, the logistics service will be improved and the total profit will rise too. With a reasonable allocation method, supply chain members will cooperate actively to realize the Pareto improvement.

Abstract:Recent emphasis on competition and cooperation in supply chains has resulted in the resurgence of game theory as a relevant tool for analyzing such interactions in a supply chain. This paper presents a review of more than 130 papers concerned with game theoretical applications in supply chain management (SCM). We first give a brief summary of the basic solution concepts in non-cooperative and cooperative games such as Nash and Stackelberg equilibria, Nash arbitration scheme and cooperation with sidepayments. the core, the Shapley value and nucleolus. Our review of supply chain-related game theoretical applications is presented in five areas: (i) Inventory games with fixed unit purchase cost, (ii) Inventory games with quantity discounts, (iii) Production and pricing competition, (iv) Games with other attributes, (v) Games with joint decisions on inventory, production/pricing and other attributes. The paper concludes with a summary of our review, suggestions for potential applications of game theory in SCM and an alternative classification of all reviewed papers.

Abstract:In this paper, the author utilizes the game theory to analyze the interest expression, game strategies and the inter-game relation of stakeholders including government, developers, land-contributing units and citizens in the major projects. Then the game model is built to focus on the game relations between the government and landcontributing units as well as citizens, aiming to identify factors that promote the balance. Finally, the game solutions are proposed.

Abstract:It has been a long-lasting pursuit to promote cooperation, and this study aims to promote cooperation via the combination of social stratification and the spatial prisoners' dilemma game. It is previously assumed that agents share the identical payoff matrix, but the stratification or diversity exists and exerts influences in real societies. Thus, two additional classes, elites and scoundrels, derive from and coexist with the existing class, commons. Three classes have different payoff matrices. We construct a model where agents play the prisoners' dilemma game with neighbors. It indicates that stratification and temptation jointly influence cooperation. Temptation permanently reduces cooperation; elites play a positive role in promoting cooperation while scoundrels undermine it. As the temptation getting larger and larger, elites play a more and more positive and critical role while scoundrels' negative effect becomes weaker and weaker, and it is more obvious when temptation goes beyond its threshold.

Abstract:Quality assurance is a basic requirement for establishment and maintenance of the long-term cooperation relationship of the supply chain.The paper proposes a non-cooperation game analysis model of sampling inspection in quality management of supply chain,and analyzes how the downstream manufacturers should determine their sampling plan based on the quality of supplier's product.Simulation results show that the sampling plan of a supply chain is different from the traditional sampling plan of an independent enterprise.In comparison with the traditional sampling plan,the sampling plan described in this paper can lower the costs,and increase the expected profits of supplier and manufacturer.

Abstract:Strategies can significantly influence the performances of individual players and groups in supply networks. However, these strategies evolve over time. Thus, it is essential to probe the evolution of strategies in this context. This paper investigates the evolution of cooperation on supply networks focusing on the impacts of network topologies. Due to the difficulty in mapping the topological structures of large-scale supply networks, we introduce a topological model for supply networks. Then repeated prisoner's dilemma game is played on the resulting networks. The simulation results show that topological structures have close relevance to the cooperation level in the networks. Compared with homogeneous structures, heterogeneous structures are helpful to promote cooperation. In addition, strategy payoff and competition pressure are also involved with the evolution of cooperation. This work may offer a useful insight into understanding complex strategy behaviours in supply networks.

Abstract:This paper deals with the problem of scheduling and batch delivery of orders in a supply chain (SC) including a supplier, a manufacturer and a final customer. First, the individual decisions of partners in the SC and their behaviours are analysed through mathematical models. Second, the best policy is obtained assuming that the SC is vertically integrated and the partners fully cooperate (this is called SC scheduling in the relevant literature). Since this strategy is usually against a partner, it might not be implemented in practice as the authors have observed this condition in real world. Hence, a fair sharing mechanism based on game theory concepts is also introduced which can motivate the partners to cooperate and adopt the best policy of the SC. The numerical examples show the superiority of integrated decisions over independent actions and also the importance of the sharing mechanism.

Abstract:This paper surveys some applications of cooperative game theory to supply chain management. Special emphasis is placed on two important aspects of cooperative games: profit allocation and stability. The paper first describes the construction of the set of feasible outcomes in commonly seen supply chain models, and then uses cooperative bargaining models to find allocations of the profit pie between supply chain partners. In doing so, several models are analyzed and surveyed, and include suppliers selling to competing retailers, and assemblers negotiating with component manufacturers selling complementary components. The second part of the paper discusses the issue of coalition formation among supply chain partners. An exhaustive survey of commonly used stability concepts is presented. Further, new ideas such as farsightedness among supply chain players are also discussed and analyzed. The paper also opens some avenues of future research in applying cooperative game theory to supply chain management.

According to the general market competition in game analysis for product manufacturing enterprises as representatives for further discussion under the constraints of the government and social consumer groups, we examine the dynamic decision-making process of supply chain management, the attitudes adopted by the enterprises toward the government and consumer groups in the game for obtaining greater benefits, and the development of enterprises for providing creativity as well as theory and methodology.

Abstract:It is a key problem to study the structure of supply chains and supply chain coordination under the environment of SC vs.SC competition.In this paper,the super-network method is used to analyze the operation process of the supply chains and construct a super-network of the supply chains.In order to decompose total demand with given distribution function,customer choice theory is adopted to acquire the demand of each supply chain.By combining game theory with Newsvendor model,we put forward a revenue-share contract,which can coordinate the behaviors of the members included in a same supply chain under the environment of SC vs.SC competition.The final example shows that coordination strategy can improve the efficiency of supply chain operation,but the competition between coordinative supply chains is so fierce that the phenomenon of Prisoners Trap may exist.

Abstract:This paper studies the competitive model of two supply chains and SC coordination under SC competition. First, we separate demand using the consumer choice theory and obtain the demand distribution function of each product from the given demand distribution function of two products. Second, we prove that the manufacturer can't coordinate both the retailer's quantity and pricing decisions under SC competition with a wholesale price contract, a buy-barck contract, a quantity-flexibility contractor a sales-rebate contract, except a revenue sharing contract. Finally, an example is put forward to analyze the performance of two supply chains under three scenarios: both supply chains, only one or neither being coordinated. It shows that SC coordination is a dominant strategy for both supply chains, but as in the prisoner's dilemma, both supply chains are worse off under the coordinated scenario relative to the uncoordinated scenario because of fiercer competition. The consumers are the only guaranteed beneficiaries of SC coordination.

Abstract:Partner's decision process on information sharing in virtual enterprise was analyzed with game theory, and the strategies to solve low-level information sharing in virtual enterprise were studied. The game theory model of information sharing in virtual enterprise was formulated and the prisoner's dilemma in information sharing was also pointed out. Based on this, causes leading to low-level information sharing were analyzed and corresponding measures were also put forward. To overcome disadvantages in traditional punishing mechanism under the circumstance of asymmetrical information, a new mechanism integrating bidding mechanism with punishing mechanism was proposed. Theoretical analysis showed that high-level information sharing in virtual enterprise could be realized.

Abstract:In social systems, the purpose of individuals playing games is to get higher payoffs. However, if the benefit from game interactions does not achieve their expectation, agents may be more inclined to escape from games to reduce the potential consumption. Of particular interest, this trait could be mimicked by the so-called “silence” strategy. In this work, we consider silence strategy in the framework of prisoner’s dilemma game, where players either engage in the game as cooperators or defectors, or gain no any payoff as the silence agents. The events of turning into and escaping from silence strategy depend on both the consumption level and silence period. Of particular interest, it is unveiled that there exists an intermediate consumption level that could guarantee the optimal cooperation circumstance. For the small consumption level, the silence strategy could enhance the frequency of cooperation through the rock–scissor–paper cycle. While for the large consumption level, vast majority of players choose the silence strategy to avoid the high loss of engaging in games. This discovery is universally effective for the silence period.
Cooperation Transition of Spatial Public Goods Games

Abstract:In the public goods games, players attempt to optimize their payoffs, following as fair, generous, and extortionate rules according to the pattern needed for obtaining their expected profits compared to those of their opponents. In first type of rule (the fair one), players seek equal profits of the opponent, and the generous rule induces to lower payoff than that of opposite players, while the extortionate rule leads to higher payoffs than that of their opponents. To model the three types of behaviors, we introduce a conditional strategy with a parameter χ, which control conditions of existence of the three behaviors. Therefore, players may contribute in a group, but may not contribute in the other group, because it depends on conditions of their opponents. Simulation results show that there exists a pure cooperation state when parameter χ is moderate, even for a lower multiplication factor. Because conditional players cautiously contribute they can form compact clusters to prevent the invasion of defection and finally spread the cooperation when defectors die out.
Strategic Games on a Hierarchical Network Model

Abstract:Among complex network models, the hierarchical network model is the one most close to such real networks as world trade web, metabolic network, WWW, actor network, and so on. It has not only the property of power-law degree distribution, but also the scaling clustering coefficient property which Barabási-Albert (BA) model does not have. BA model is a model of network growth based on growth and preferential attachment, showing the scale-free degree distribution property. In this paper, we study the evolution of cooperation on a hierarchical network model, adopting the prisoner’s dilemma (PD) game and snowdrift game (SG) as metaphors of the interplay between connected nodes. BA model provides a unifying framework for the emergence of cooperation. But interestingly, we found that on hierarchical model, there is no sign of cooperation for PD game, while the frequency of cooperation decreases as the common benefit decreases for SG. By comparing the scaling clustering coefficient properties of the hierarchical network model with that of BA model, we found that the former amplifies the effect of hubs. Considering different performances of PD game and SG on complex network, we also found that common benefit leads to cooperation in the evolution. Thus our study may shed light on the emergence of cooperation in both natural and social environments.

Abstract:Based on the operation characteristics of a supply chain,we analyze the cooperative strategy of the assignment game. By extending the economic model of supply chain network from monolayer to multiplayer, a multi-echelon supply chain network is obtained with the purpose of maximizing their profits, and the existence of the core solution is proved. The study shows that the core enterprises in the supply chain alliance can maximize their whole profits by arranging the cooperation relationships among member enterprises properly under their total production cost and willingness-payment constraint. Since this cooperation strategy meets the definition of the core, its practice can enhance the stability of supply chains.
Collective Strategies with a Master-slave Mechanism Dominate in Spatial Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma

Abstract:How cooperation emerges and persists in a population of selfish agents is a fundamental question in evolutionary game theory. Our research shows that Collective Strategies with Master-Slave Mechanism (CSMSM) defeat Tit-for-Tat and other well-known strategies in spatial iterated prisoner's dilemma. A CSMSM identifies kin members by means of a handshaking mechanism. If the opponent is identified as non-kin, a CSMSM will always defect. Once two CSMSMs meet, they play master and slave roles. A mater defects and a slave cooperates in order to maximize the master's payoff. CSMSM outperforms non-collective strategies in spatial IPD even if there is only a small cluster of CSMSMs in the population. The existence and performance of CSMSM in spatial iterated prisoner's dilemma suggests that cooperation first appears and persists in a group of collective agents.

A DISTRIBUTED MULTI-TASK COLLABORATION MECHANISM BASED ON THE GAME THEORY IN SOFTMAN SYSTEM

Abstract:In order to maximize the utilization of computing resources in Distributed System and resolve multi-tasks collaboration problem, a distributed multi-task collaboration mechanism based on game theory in SoftMan (SM) System is put forward in this paper. Since computing resources and Multi-tasks are the key issues in distributed collaboration mechanism, the relationship between computing resources and Multi-tasks is discussed in detail, and the decomposition method of multi-tasks is given at first. Then on the basis of the game theory, the auction model, the distributed collaboration mechanism of SoftMan System is established. Finally, under the application of the friction assessment of production equipment in Ansteel, comparative experiments are designed to test the performance of distributed multi-task collaboration mechanisms based on the game theory proposed in this paper. Results show that distributed multi-task collaboration mechanisms based on the game theory have a higher success rate and accuracy with good algorithm stability and reliability.
