Academic Competition, Performance Evaluation and the Cyclical Crisis in University Academic Management

Abstract:With the increase of enrollment, college teachers have to face short supply of academic resources and expenditure. Many col-leges take performance assessment as the panacea to the academic management of college teachers, intensifying the academic competition. All the elements of academic competition, performance evaluation and academic management are obscure. The academic management has cyclical crisis. The access system of college teachers needs to be improved. The promotion of college teachers is affected by administrative rank, resulting in low payment for the teachers. The dominant role of academic management has changed. There is a great difference in the focus on different disciplines. And the system for academic occupation mobility is rigid. A system to ensure the dominant position of teach-ers should be built for preventing the cyclical crisis, so as to perform the core value of colleges and facilitate the growth of colleges in the true sense.
