Research on the mechanism of Internet public opinion communication based on the infectious disease model

Abstract:With the rapid development of information technology, Internet public opinion has become an important reflection of social dynamics, and its dissemination mechanism has strong similarities with the epidemic process of infectious diseases. This article aims to explore the dissemination mechanism of Internet public opinion by drawing on infectious disease models, and propose improvement strategies for existing research deficiencies. This article systematically reviews the basic concepts, theoretical frameworks, and current development status of virus transmission models and Internet public opinion dissemination models. Through the introduction of traditional infectious disease models such as SIR (susceptible-infected-recovered model), SIS (susceptible-infected model), and SEIR (susceptible-Exposed-infected-recovered model), it lays a theoretical foundation for subsequent analysis of the characteristics of Internet public opinion dissemination. The article focuses on a detailed elaboration of the SIR, SIS, and SEIR models, and analyzes their applicability in the context of Internet public opinion. In particular, the SEIR model, which considers the latent state of not yet infecting others, is closer to the complexity of actual public opinion dissemination. In view of the limitations of existing models in simulating real-world network environments, this article further proposes an improved SEIR model. The improved model considers factors such as network topology, user behavior differences, and information heterogeneity to more accurately simulate the dissemination process of Internet public opinion.
