Abstract:Based on China's biased rural education policy, this paper uses the data from China Household Income Projects (CHIP) in 2008 to explore the influence of education on the income of the new generation of migrant workers. The empirical results show that education can significantly enhance the income of the new generation of migrant workers, whose rate of return to education is much higher than the old generation's.For the two generations of migrant workers who have the highest education level in high school, the rate of return to vocational education is higher than the rate of return to general education.Considering the alternative relationship between school education and work experience, the economic value of school education for the new generation of migrant workers will be greatly reduced. Therefore, concerted efforts should be made in the development of financial support policy for education, the legislation on prolonging the years of compulsory education and the reform of household registration system. It is necessary to provide more financial support for farmers to enhance the optimal level of education after compulsory education in rural areas.
