Application of problem-based learning and discussion-based teaching in gastroenterology ward-round teaching

Abstract:Objective To explore the role of problem-based learning ( PBL ) and discussion-based teaching in gastroenterology teaching by relating to our reform in clinical teaching .Methods First, we selected high-quality and real cases as teaching cases .Then, we prepared reasonable and precise problems for the students .All the students were required to think and participate in discussions before, during and after ward-round teaching.Results Application of PBL and discussion-based teaching in gastroenterology ward-round teaching brought good outcomes . The students made improvements in clinical thinking , interest in learning and clinical examination scores .They acquired better professionalism and clinical skills . The teaching supervision team and students gave positive evaluations .A gradually increased number of students were interested in doing the clinical work . Conclusion It is feasible to apply PBL and discussion-based teaching in ward-round teaching of gastroenterology department , which deserves popularization .
