Abstract:Advancing the Qiongzhou Strait Sea-crossing Bridge program is crucial for regional integration and economic development, yet the intricate coupling effects between environmental variables and structures pose significant challenges to bridge construction. Therefore, it is essential to thoroughly explore the harsh environmental characteristics and dynamic responses of the bridge. This study aims to establish a comprehensive framework for stochastic dynamic analyses of sea-crossing bridges, considering the combined impact of diverse environmental factors. Historical typhoon data is utilized to hindcast typhoon waves, forming a joint probabilistic model for wind and waves. Multivariate environmental contours are then created to assess wind and wave features for various alignments of the Qiongzhou Strait Sea-crossing Bridge. Using a finite element model, the dynamic response of the bridge is examined under varied sea conditions. The integration of the peak-over-threshold (POT) method with Copula theory enhances the examination of wind and wave characteristics, leading to more accurate representation of the joint probabilistic models. By employing the ADCIRC + SWAN model for typhoon wave analysis, this research provides valuable insights into assessing wind and wave characteristics, favoring the Generalized Pareto (GP) distribution and recommending the Western Route as the optimal choice for bridge construction. Furthermore, a new index known as the significant displacement is proposed, which can mitigate stochastic process variability and improve precision in describing structural responses under extreme environmental conditions. This study offers valuable insights into the practical aspects of designing sea-crossing bridges exposed to complex marine environments.
